Guest Mel_3 Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 I attempted to add a new Path Variable to System Variables on PC-1 by Right Click My Computer | Click Properties | Advanced | Environment Variables - clicking "New" - then entering "Path" as Variable - then entering "c:\program files\folderX" as the Value. In doing so I guess I wiped out the prior System Variables "Path" values - One symptom is Windows Security Alert does not see that I have MS Security Essentials installed and working. - I'm sure there are other issues as well. Question 1: Can I just copy the Path's from another XP Pro machine... PC-2? .. The path is gone on a PC with a lot of software installed (PC-1) .. The other XP machine (PC-2) has almost no software on it. .. The Path for the System Variables on PC-2 is... %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\WINDOWS\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0 Question 2: If I can do this should I do it in Safe Mode or what? Question 3: This was done yesterday... can I just "restore" PC-1 to day before yesterday status? .. and btw, will I loose bookmarks saved after the restore point? Question 4: Or what should I do? (I'll lose a week if I have to re-install Windows and all the App's) Thanks for any help ! Continue reading... Quote
