Problems excessing my internet conection on my desk top computer

I have a desk top computer with windows xp on it, and the security system on it is microsoft security essentails... I was recently having a problem with being able to run a scan on my other user profile and came on here asking about it... someone had said to try and uninstall microsoft security essentails and then re install it to see if that would help. Well after i re installed it i've been having issues trying to axcess my internet conection... i called my service provider and they sent a tech to look at it and they said that my internet connection is fine and they dont understand why my computer wont axcess it. I cant axcess my firewall to see if mabe thats the issue and no one can seem to help me.
