installing office 2010 over office 2000 and outlook blowing up windows messaging

I installed office 2010 ( and have set in the MOCT to remove previous office version). It removes office 2003 and 2007 but not 0ffice 2000. also office 2010 install does not finish and reboots workstation. then it corrupt Mail messaging. Can not remove office or reinstall or repair. end up reimaging pc. got any thoughts?
