verisign client external certificate and IE9

I can no longer access a website that requires verisign client external certificate after downloading internet explorer 9.

The process of logging in is as follows:

A) The website is opened and checks for a valid certificate

B) Internet Explorer gives a prompt to choose a certificate

C) You choose the correct certificate

 

Internet Explorer inevitable gives us an error:Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage. And that's where everything ends.

Everything used to work perfectly fine in Windows 7 with IE8. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong? I'm guessing it's just a matter of security settings in Internet Explorer, but I'm really not quite sure.
