Today, I was in a hurry and not thinking so I ran Microsoft Upate without manually creating a restore point. I have the automatic System Restore turned off and use symantec Ghost. So, I've spent all day trying to get Windows 7 Professional 32bit to allow me to reinstall my drivers for these devices.

I have not really tried the serial card yet, but here is what I have done for the Video and Sound drivers.

1. I redownloaded the driver install from AMD and tried to run it. It got errors.

2. I uninstalled the AMD software and drivers.

3. Uninstalled the device

4. Rebooted into Safe Mode

5. Downloaded Driver Sweeper (downloaded from download.cnet.com)

6. Ran Driver Sweeper and removed all remaining AMD files.

7. Rebooted Windows

8. Tried to stop the automatic driver install - (I think this is part of the problem)

9. Uninstalled the devices in device manager.

10. Re-ran the driver setup and it showed it did this successfully.

I have repeated this process with some variation. Some of the error messages are:

Event Id: 7000

The AMD External Events Utility service failed to start due to the following error:

Access is denied. The above was from the System Log. I get Event Id 59,

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Windows\system32\coinst.dll".Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Windows\system32\coinst.dll" on line 0. Invalid Xml syntax. I'm not sure if these are related, but there does seem to be an access issue. I had disabled my AVG virus software before trying to install the drivers. Thanks for your help.

Thanks, Scott
