How long the scan should take? Twelve and a half hours and counting!

I have Windows 7 and have MSE installed. My computer is only 2 yrs old so I don't know how long the scan should take. But the automatic schedule doesn't turn on and when I do it myself it take forever. Right now it is at almost 12.5 hours of scan time. Is this normal? And if not what do I do?
