windows update will not install completly

I have windows XP (2004) A security update has made many attempts to install but fails to completely install. A message states "

Some updates could not be installed" "Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 x86 (xxxxxxxxxx)". What is the solution?
