XP desktop inoperative- no icons and right-click disabled

Hi,

My computer was infected by a trojan virus. My virus protection identified it and quarantined it.  Following this, the computer is back on operation, however : 1-the desktop is blank 2- the right-click (or left-click) mouse on the desktop is inoperative ; 

and 3- all icons have disappeared, however all the files, personal or other, are still on  C:

What can I do to recover a fully operative desktop?
