having a problemm wtih Windows installer, cannot download any new sortware or some updates

32 bit version

windows vista business 2007 edition service pack 2

i believe this has something to do with system mechanic. from what i have been able to gather from other threads is it may be possible some files are missing relating to the services files. any ideas on hoe to fix. thanks clyde
