My son had to replace the hard drive in his computer and now can't find the key to re-install office

My son is in grad school in London and his hard drive crashed.  He replaced the hard drive and now does not have office on it.  He purchased Office while in college here in the U.S.  but we have no idea where we placed the packaging it came in so we don't

have the key.  Will he have to buy it again in the U.K.?
