I have an older desktop running Windows XP Home.  I had two updates that failed:  KB2675157 and KB2656352.  Since that failure, windows will start up but very slowly.  After I select the user I want to log on as, personal preferences will not load.  The

entire system hangs and the only way to restart is to hold the power button down.  What do I need to do to get Windows up and running again?
