Windows XP won't respond to keyboard or mouse. Why isn't it working.

Alright, I've got the Windows XP Home Edition-32 version, Service Pack 2. I bought a Gear Head keyboard yesterday, along with a Dynex usb optical mouse. My old keyboard and mouse were completly beyond repair; i threw them away. I plugged in my new usb devices.

When Windows is finished loaded it takes me to my logon screen. However, my mouse and keyboard will not respond at all. This prevents me from going any further. Also, they will not respond during the start-up, BIOS, or Windows Advanced Options Menu. I don't

have a recovery disc. I bought the computer with XP already on it, so I don't have the Operating System disc. What's my next step?
