phreakwars Posted November 21, 2006 Author Posted November 21, 2006 Thankful for ?? Well, like I posted on my local message board: This year, I am thankful that I have given myself and my family the opportunity to be thankful for hopefully a few more years by quitting smoking. I am also thankful that I have lasted well over a month without all that nasty nicotine, and thankful that this year's Thanksgiving dinner will probably be the tastiest one for me personally in over 17 years, since I now have a stronger sense of taste and smell. I am also thankful that I finally get more then one day off this week, and last but not least. I am thankful that I have much of my PTSD issues behind me and have been able to slowly recoup my life back in order... Amen . . Quote https://www.facebook.com/phreakwars

ClassyMissFancy Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 I chose "Other" because I have no clue what it's gonna be. All I know is it will be good and it will be really nice to have a holiday dinner with family for a change. It's been 10 years since I have been with my family for a major holiday. Quote

skategreen Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Phreak Phreak Phreak! You forgot PIES. PIES! Thanksgiving, just behind the turkey, is all about PIES!!! In our family, 3 pies are mandatory. Oft times there were 5 kinds. Now that I'm way over here and everyone else is way over there or dead, I don't bother with the Mincemeat and Pumpkin. I love the idea of these, loved the smell, and couldn't abide the taste. Tomorrow..I'm making Blueberry, Apple, and Cherry! HURRAY FOR PIES! Quote The thought manifests as the word. RegisteredAndEducated Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Peacan Pie. How come nobody likes peacan pie. It's my favorite but it's like pulling teeth to get any! Pecan pies are a dime a dozen down here dude. My grandpa used to own 600+ acres of pecan orchard. Pecan pie is good, it's really good, but it's not my fav. Ya better be right...
phreakwars Posted November 22, 2006 Author Posted November 22, 2006 Pecan is my personal fav too. Of all pies, it is the most expensive one in my area.. However, Columbus can lay claim to the Food Network pie challenge winner and grand champion, Phyllis Barthalomew. She has her own business and will whip you up any of her many record winning pies. Nice that they are all fresh too. And Phyllis is a pretty cool old lady too.. She confesses she can't top my chili though, if you ask her. She's better off sticking to pies. . . skategreen Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Peacan Pie. How come nobody likes peacan pie. It's my favorite but it's like pulling teeth to get any! Oh Lordy, Pecan Pie should be my favorite. I stick to "blueberry as a favorite" because I'm loyal. It's been my favorite since I first learned how to reach over and steal a fork. But Pecan ohhhh Pecan I can grow lyrical about Pecan. I adoooore Pecan. I love to make it, fresh pecans..and LOTS of pecans. I can't stand those pies that have 2 inches of goo with but a spartan smattering of pecans atop. no no no...I Load that Sucker with Pecans. Gooey Chewy Pecan Delight! (hey, do you cook? I have a recipe for Pecan square that kills. Shortbread cookie bottom, covered with pecans mixed with an egg and brown sugar, creating a pecan pie chewy top. fabulous. I'll break it out on the recipe thread later) Sadly Hubby is allergic to all nuts..so I rarely make it. But if you come to Long Island or NY on a visit. I'll make it. We can sneak out to the deck and eat till we puke. Pecan pies are a dime a dozen down here dude. My grandpa used to own 600+ acres of pecan orchard. Pecan pie is good, it's really good, but it's not my fav. You lucky bastard. If that was me? I'd a packed up early and left home to go live with Grampie. Quote The thought manifests as the word. Just because I can't make a goddamn turkey doesn't mean anything! Thanksgiving is always at my moms so I really don't feel the need to learn, though it isn't complicated. Just never done it. We're doing split day-half at my BILs and half at my Moms. To my BILs I am bringing-Apple Cheesecake, Pumpkin Cheesecake, Hash Brown Casserole, and Glazed Spiral Ham. We're also having turkey, green bean casserole, pumpkin pie, turnips, salad, corn, carrots-the regular fixings. Oh and beer, as we watch the suckers in the annual road race run by in the pouring rain. Mamacita's I'm just bringing Crab Rangoons-she's been outta work on Workmans comp so she's got plenty of time to cook. More of the regular fixings here, too, with pecan pie and brownie torte added to the menu. I'm going to have to pace myself. And everything I make is home made-I'm going to be busy this afternoon. skategreen Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 I am bringing-Apple Cheesecake, Sounds good. Care to post the recipe on the recipe thread? I don't recall if I posted the recipe I have for regular old cheesecake, but I will trade 'ya if you like. (every single person I've ever fed it to exclaims that it's the best cheesecake they've ever had. I agree.) (I bought the recipe from a Greek Witch) Quote The thought manifests as the word. Feckless Wench Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 We don't celebrate Thanksgiving over here in the UK so I'll just vote on what we traditionally eat at Christmas....I think our Christmas dinner is pretty similar to what you have at Thanksgiving. phreakwars Posted November 24, 2006 Author Posted November 24, 2006 My ( Elton Brown ) turkey turned out soo good, I might just have to soak my cock in the brine I made it with. It'll Give Mrs. Phreakwars an added treat. She said it was my best turkey ever.. I think that might have to do with the fact I got my tastebuds back from not smoking. . . RoyalOrleans Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 I ate too much yesterday. My brother-in-law was in charge of the turkey this year and he did a superb job. He did it on a rotisserie over an open grill. He used mesquite charcoal briquettes and splashed on some type of seasoning rub.
