So what does everyone think? Do American prisoners have it too good with their TV's, recreation facilities, gyms, and courtyards? Or is our prison system the symbol of humane punishment which other governments should follow?

I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I want to say fuck them- put them in a sweat box 24 hours a day. On the other hand, even a normal law-abiding citizen would lose it if they were placed in a cage all day. However, prisoners are generally more violent than the average citizen. I feel things like exercise equipment and recreation facilities provide them with a place to release their stress, anger, and frustrations.

What are your thoughts? If you could change some things about our prison system, would suggestions would you offer?

Blah.

Personally, I like the idea of that one prison out in Arizona. The prisoners live in tents, wear pink underwear, have no TV or magazines, and eat bland military food. Recidivism rates among those prisoners are something like 16%, which is ridiculously low. The Warden

Some prisons are WAY TOO nice (carpeted floors, brand new state of the art facilities), but then a lot are literally hell on earth even here in the states, it all depends on the area/place. Overall, I think they are fitting. Although I believe some people shouldn't even be in there crowding the system such as for example- marijuana charges. And even some other people shouldn't be in there wasting our tax dollars, they should be put down worse than dogs. I am talking about the unrehabilatable, repeat offending rapists, child molestors, serial killers, etc.

They also should work for the state....Were paying there bill to live there, so they should be employees of the state. They should mow ditches or other jobs there qualified for to help off set there costs.
AA's for quitters...i'm no quitter!

That's the way all prisons should be run. No cruelty, but absolutely no frills. If they need to blow off steam with exercise, bring back the chain gangs and have them work.

It seems like an obvious assumption that prison should be punishment. There shouldn't be any unnecessary extras, and I sure don't remember agreeing to my tax dollars being spent on perks for criminals.

I think it all depends on what the people are in prison for in the first place...I mean a child molestor does not deserve to watch T.V....or even see daylight for that matter. Some people are in prison for things that aren't that bad, and shouldn't be punished as severely.........On the other hand, I guess they shouldn't have done what they did to get sent to prison in the first place if they wanted the same privileges they had on the outside(?)
