Outlaw2747 Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Does anyone think that America puts way too much focus and emphasis on sex and sexual related ideas and actions into everyday life? Msixty Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 I'm not currently getting laid, we are not focusing enough.... But really, i think if it's what sells, then who cares? Better than some things and it's not hurting anyone (don't bring up the freaks who have 'eating disorders' such as bulimia or won't eat because 'they want to look like that' that is Darwin at work, leave it alone) i prefer to see nude girls over 50 Cent, so sell that sex! Quote Your stupidity is My weapon WARNING! my mood and mental state are strongly influenced by music and T.V./movies..... i may seem the slightest bit insane.. just don't let me watch my favorite show and or listen to my music and it will all be alright.

Ahhlee Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Not according to a lot of European countries. They say we are prudes when it comes to sexuality and nudity. And according to Muslim nations, we are the epitome of debauchery and lewdness. On one hand, you have religious extremists trying to ban everything sexual except the missionary position for heterosexual, married couples. On the other hand hand, you have Paris Hilton and Britney Spears showing their hoo-ha's to anyone who wants a peek and even to those who don't.... ...I'll take "somewhere in the middle" for $200, Alex. Simple question. GF, have at it. Ali and Chi beat me to it. On the sexual morality spectrum, we are between Europe and Islamic countries. However, if we were to judge our nation without comparing it to others, I would still say we place way too much emphasis on sex and sexual related ideas. Quote Blah.

I think America is too varied to say that every state is the same. Utah compared to California? Naaaah, too many variables. Quote Persevere, it pisses people off.
Phantom Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I think America is too varied to say that every state is the same. Utah compared to California? Naaaah, too many variables. Oh of course. But things like national advertising campaigns kind of ruin that argument. If we are talking about people, it will vary from person to person. If we are talking about what comes from the nation in general, we are way oversexed. Quote Blah.

Phantom Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 In what way? Your religious right is no more ridiculously hypocritical than ours. I know you think I am a prude (which is true) but to answer your question: Commercials. Sex Sells. Television. Sex, Sex, Sex. Movies. Sex, Sex, Sex. Society. Sex, Sex, Sex. Even kids are doing it. The Internet. Sex, Sex, Sex. The Internet is known for its porn availability. Billboards, television, commericals, schools. Yes, we are oversexed. Just because sex is natural does not mean it needs to be blasted out through every available media outlet. Quote Blah.

builder Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I know you think I am a prude (which is true) but to answer your question: Prudes don't post bikini photos of themselves in the public domain. Commercials. Sex Sells. Advertising is subject to censorship laws approved by Congress. Television. Sex, Sex, Sex. See above. Movies. Sex, Sex, Sex. Most mainstream movies today are tamer and lamer than in the seventies. Society. Sex, Sex, Sex. Even kids are doing it. You're talking about Paris Hilton? Or Hollywood? The latter was far raunchier in the days of the Rat Pack. Now we have the Brat Pack, who are all married off now. Lame. The Internet. Sex, Sex, Sex. The Internet is known for its porn availability. The filthiest porno comes from Eastern bloc countries. Unless you can counter with some American links? Billboards, television, commericals, schools. Yes, we are oversexed. Just because sex is natural does not mean it needs to be blasted out through every available media outlet. Sex sells. Who runs ninety percent of your media? Quote Persevere, it pisses people off.

Phantom Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Prudes don't post bikini photos of themselves in the public domain. OWNED. And that is all I am going to say about that. But I am a prude, all things considering. Advertising is subject to censorship laws approved by Congress. Yes, but every year those laws become more and more lax. Most mainstream movies today are tamer and lamer than in the seventies. I disagree. You're talking about Paris Hilton? Or Hollywood? The latter was far raunchier in the days of the Rat Pack. Now we have the Brat Pack, who are all married off now. Lame. Do you HONESTLY think Hollywood was raunchier 50 years ago? I can't imagine how you could possibly believe this. The filthiest porno comes from Eastern bloc countries. Unless you can counter with some American links Sorry, I can't help you. I'm not an online porn aficionado like you. Sex sells. Who runs ninety percent of your media? The Jews? Quote Blah.
builder Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 OWNED. And that is all I am going to say about that. But I am a prude, all things considering. Comparisons are odious and obvious, but whom are you comparing yourself to when making this self-appraisal? Yes, but every year those laws become more and more lax. Or more and more politically correct, which stinks even more in my book. A few tits and bums never hurt anyone, but PC is taking away our freedom of speech, which is heinous. I disagree. What era was the recent Hollywood movie Boogie Nights based on? Do you HONESTLY think Hollywood was raunchier 50 years ago? I can't imagine how you could possibly believe this. Behind the scenes, Hollywood was way more raunchy back then. The problem today is, nobody can keep a secret. Everbody was fucking everybody back then, and the casting couch was not an urban myth. Sorry, I can't help you. I'm not an online porn aficionado like you. Your brother told me. I can't be bothered with online porno. Too slow to download, and lots of spyware. I'll buy a DVD if I want to watch sex. The Jews? And why would such a pure and staid people want to poison minds with porno? Quote Persevere, it pisses people off.
eddo Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Commercials. Sex Sells. Back in High School, for the final in Free Enterprise class to be exact, we had to come up with an idea for a product, market it, figure out the costs associated with production, marketing, and all aspects of the item, and then present it in a marketing campaign to all the other Free Enterprise classes ans see how it did. My group came up with a walk-man style radio that had solar panels on it to recharge the batteries as you ran. We test-marketed it, and it flopped.not many were interested at all. Then our final marketing billboard said this (with the first letter of each word bigger for effect): Solar Energized with X-tra Bass We were the third highest selling product in all six classes combined. Sex most definately sells. Quote I'm trusted by more women.
builder Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Solar Energized with X-tra Bass We were the third highest selling product in all six classes combined. Sex most definately sells. I marketted the nasal razor in high-school. Wish I'd patented it. If I had of known about the sex issue, I could have made a double-ender. Vibe on top, razor below. Quote Persevere, it pisses people off.
Phantom Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Comparisons are odious and obvious, but whom are you comparing yourself to when making this self-appraisal? Prudishness is relative. Compare me to a whore, and I will come across as a nun. Compare me to a nun, and I will come across as a whore. The same is true for everyone in the middle of the road. If I don't compare myself to others, I would be considered a prude by my style of dress (I never wear cleavage or mid-drift revealing tops, avoid mini skirts, and stick to one piece bathing suits these days), sexual style (I'm not very kinky and am very insecure about my naked body), language style (don't cuss all that often and typically avoid vulgar language), etc., etc. Or more and more politically correct, which stinks even more in my book. A few tits and bums never hurt anyone, but PC is taking away our freedom of speech, which is heinous. Breasts and behinds don't hurt anyone but neither is it appropriate to be in use as much as they are. There is nothing wrong with being conservative and saving those things for the bedroom. As for the PC speech limitations, I wholeheartedly agree. Behind the scenes, Hollywood was way more raunchy back then. The problem today is, nobody can keep a secret. Everbody was fucking everybody back then, and the casting couch was not an urban myth. I didn't say it wasn't sexual back then, just not AS sexual. And it would be my opinion that there is still a bunch of sex going on behind the scenes today as well. People have always been people and sex is going to happen as long as people are involved. However, 50 years ago, a man and a woman were not allowed to be filmed in the same bed (which is why married couples were portrayed as sleeping in separate beds). Sex was not allowed in film and swear words were limited to Damn. Sex in Hollywood has always gone on behind the scenes but now it has seeped into the public view as well as censorship has become more lax. And why would such a pure and staid people want to poison minds with porno? Er... because of the almighty dollar? I don't know. Why? Quote Blah.
