The Downfall of LPF *Everyone Please Read*

Wow, this is going to be quite long. But i'm asking for all members, mods, and phage for a few minutes for your time.

 

Well, i'm going to say how it is. I'm not going to lie or candy-coat anything. But i'm trying to keep it in order here. Whether it gets repetitive just read please. We all know LPF has gone way downhill. And i'm trying to do what it takes for us as a commUNITY to stop the childish stuff and become a real board. But really, it's not me that is going to do it, it's all of us as a whole. I'm not gonna go off and just be negative about everything, but moreover, understand what happened and hope that it can be fixed.

I'm sure some of you guys are sitting back thinking to yourself "Shinodabear isn't even on the boards that much, he knows nothing about whats going on". I know, it may seem like that but i'm here a whole lot more than you guys think. In fact, you guys would be surprised about how much I know about some of you. We'll get to why i dont post as much later.

 

Current Problem 1: Azem and Weeztones.

Just to start off, Azem is going to be banned. Now before you hit that reply button and start rebelling against me i'm going to explain whats going on. After reviewing the situation, it is only fair that both Azem and Weeztones should be banned. However, Azem will only be suspended for 3 days. We know that many of you guys do not get along with Weeztones, but that doesn't give us the right if the majority does not like him. Weeztones did start the problem in the first place. But Azem went out and made it public creating the "me or weeztones" topic. Not only did a lot of members did not want to see that, it was way out of line. And unnecessary. So, Vero ended up banning him for what he said in the topic. Well, i dont blame Weeztones for saying what he said if someone made a topic like that almost against me. So Azem will be suspended for 3 days. As for Weeztones, I previously looked at everything else before and he should have been banned a while ago. So he will remain banned unless something strange happens.

 

This is to also show that even if someone else is starting trouble with you, you dont keep bickering back and forth, you PM us. Therefore not everyone ends up seeing another flamewar. The mods and i spoke, and we are going to become a little more strict and if things continue the way they are, there will be a lot more banning/suspensions for lots of different things. It doesn't matter how long you've been on this site, you break the rules, you pay the consequences.

 

Current Problem 2: Spam

A lot of members are creating almost completely useless topics. We'll end up getting topics such as "Today i ate cheese" Really, that's nice you ate cheese but that's not really contributing to the boards. That is spam. And spam is bad.

 

Spam is also put within topics. Members will post in the same topic about 20 times without really saying much. A simple "lol" is not a reply. Please guys post count doesn't mean much.

 

Current Problem 3: New Mod

I'm going to put this out. I'm having trouble working with Vero. I know she's a new mod but kill me for being human. Vero's got a lot of heart into being a good mod and I see what her problem is. From the things she's done, it's been all biased. She defends her actions with the fact that she's friends with someone. She's seems to be afraid that if she closes a 'friend's topic or bans someone, that everyone will not like her anymore... making it look extremely bad. And this frustrates me as well as the other mods. I also think it's awesome that you guys see her more as a friend than an authority figure. But it's not a blessing if Vero coninues to play favorites and not do a good job as a mod. But i know she's really trying. And you guys have to understand that she's always not going to play favorites and you have to respect that. It's tough. As much as it should be a sort of relationship between all the mods, Vero seems to have the most potential with you guys. She is constantly asking us in the mod area what she should do, so i know she has good intentions. But for the next few weeks, if you have a problem, try to contact more than just 1 mod. Vero isnt always going to have the answers right away esp. since she is new.

 

Current Problem 4: Mods

Ok. So let's check in with the other mods (from my point of view):

LPB87: I Have no clue where linkinparkbabe87 has been. She used to be quite a favorite among the boards and she has yet to help us out again.

Spud: Yes, he's pretty mad about how the site has turned out and almost doesn't want to come back as much as he used to unless things get better.

Allied: This one's tricky. He's contributed a lot to the site, but he doesn't feel like he's getting the respect and credit for what he has done. But we've worked some of that out.... hopefully.

Suicide King: I feel as if he's the other mod that's just like me in many ways. Him and I work almost the same when it comes to this board.

Phage (Sal): Well he's obviously new and wont become really active until Friday.

 

So as you can see, the staff isnt doing so well. But we're working on it. And we know this is hurting the boards but it's a vicious chain.

 

Current Problem 5: Treeves, Allied, and "Kanye"

From what i believe as well. Basically Treeves registered at another name as Kanye... which some of you guys know caused trouble on the boards. As 'funny' as it might have been for some of you, it really was way uncalled for. And due to your 'goodbye' topic, it just really wasn't right. Whether Allied 'called you out' the things you've said we're in the wrong as well. So Treeves, you will be suspened for a 3 days as well. This is being done only because of your actions and unless i really wanted you gone, i woulda banned you permanently. So you can take this as more of a 'do your time and everyone will get over it' then that's cool or you can take it as it not being right and you dont have to even come back after your suspension. I'm doing this on a professional level, not personal. So please keep that in mind. I'm sure many of us would like to see you here again.

 

 

As you guys see, there's a lot of problems here on this board. And when you hit the bottom, the only direction you can go is up. So i'm creating a little guide that all of us can use to work a little better with one another. I want everyone to take a look at it.

 

This is the part where i ask for a reply. Now this can go 2 ways. We can move all our differences just this once and let one another know that we want this to work. Or, it can go the direction where one person starts replying with "How dare you ban Azem and Treeves! This board sucks" and completely cause even more trouble. I'm not suspending these 2 for nothing. And i'm not going to take action until tomorrow, so that they have time to see whats going on. And i hope you guys can accept my decision. If we can all just have one moment where we can all relize whats going on, then we can make this board a better place. I wouldn't of typed this much if i didn't have hope for the boards. For those who are really with me, i'd like to ask you to just reply something nice in this topic (whether it's saying sorry) and then go off and read solutions to all these problems. If any of you guys wish to tell me anything personally, go ahead and PM me. I wont mind.

 

If this topic goes bad... then i doubt lpf will survive in the long run.

Mods vs. Members

There has become almost a boarder line between the members and the mods. This is definitely not good because you always have those few members who like to basically question the mods authority and/or rebel against whatever we do. You guys must relize we dont just randomly make a biased decision, we talk to one another and work it out the best way it can. And when we make a decision, you guys have to realize we really thought this out. It's okay to try ask why we did what we did. But to start off the bat with smart comments and all these random topics isnt the best way to go. Why? If you really believe that we've made a completely unfair decision then ask us nicely and talk to us in a more organized way. Because if you go off and act like kids, we're really not going to take you seriously. We might change our minds, we might not. Moreover, keep in mind that we dont want to look completely like an authority figure. We're just like any quality member on this board.

 

Members vs. Members

I'm going to say right away that I dont want to see this crap. If you dont agree with another member on a certain subject, that's fine. But when it comes to the point where you or they are being disrespectful, that's when we'll step in. Members have no right to disrespect one another. Let's face it, not everyone is going to agree. And dont preach or flip out on another person. Have a little respect for not just mods, but to your friends on this board because no one wants to see their friends in an argument. And if not for your friends, for yourself! Really, do you wanna waste your time arguing with someone that doesn't shard the same values as you. Be the bigger person. I'm sure you have better things to do with your time. And if you have a problem with someone, thats fine, just try to have minimal association with them and dont cause trouble.

 

Mods vs. Mods

As for that, we're going to work on that within inside our area.

 

Topics:

The reason i do not post that much is simply because i'm trying to set the example that you dont need to reply in the same thread 100 times just saying stuff such as "lol" or quote another person saying "same here" after you've posted once. Now dont get me wrong, i'm not saying you cant reply more than once, but when you post, really think about what you're saying and if what you going to send is contributing to the boards as a whole.

 

Off-Topic Topics

We all have a few/lot of friends on this board and topics tend to get off-topic. It's natural, it happens. However, eventually this convo carries on to the point where it's just a convo between a few people. This is where you guys should really start IMing, PMing, or another form of communication. Most members dont want to see convos within topics that arent really relevant.

Person 1: hey guys, whats your favorite color?

Person 2: I like blue

Person 3: I like green

Person 4: I like red

Person 2: I used to drive a red car

Person 4: Oh yeah?! my dad drives a Toyota.

Person 5: I like yellow

Person 4: I dont like tacoma's....

As you can see, it would look a lot better if people stayed on topic. Once the whole " used to drive a red car" pops up, person 4 should take the reasonability to PM Person 2 because other members will want to see what other are going to say, and it gets frustrating when you have to scroll down about 10 posts to see what the next person is going to say.

 

Controversial Topics

Whether it's sex or religion, we need to work on this. If we cannot handle the fact we disagree and say it respectfully to one another, than how are we going to be able to handle another LPF Awards? This is one reason it has not shown up here. If you respect everyone's opinions, then i'm sure people will take that positively and do the same back.

People need to learn and understand the three rules that made this site so great to begin with:

 

1. Respect everyone's opinions. Respect everyone. Debating and friendly argueing is ok, but RESPECT is the bottom line here. This forum has a had a very severe drop in respect.

2. Think before you post!!! Think about what you are saying, and why you are saying that. Think about how people will read it and how you will be viewed. Ask yourself if it is for the better good of the LPF. If it isn't, consider revising or not posting the message at all.

3. If you have a personal beef with someone, or if you have some kind of grievance, or if your just pissed off and absolutly can't hold it back anymore, use the PM system. That is what it is there for. This way, it will let the members sort out there problems without interrupting the activity on the forums.

But (and this goes especially for me), going from a small site of about a couple hundred members and twenty regulars to a site of 3,000 and at least fifty regulars is hard. There is bound to be strife.

But, this is not a real excuse. I think that we, as Elite Members, need to help smooth out the issues on this site by using the three rules above and setting a good example for everyone else on the site. Being green has a standard, maybe its time to really start showing that to everyone.

I love this site, and I hate all this crap. We can fix it, if we all pull togather, follow the three rules, and set an example for the other members.

Well, you said it ShinodaBear.

I was surprised to read that there are problems within the mod squad. Actually I don't see all these fight either, I like to ignore threads I know will cause fights.

Now some people are going to come and flame this thread, it's not pretty, but I'm sure that will be the case.

I have noticed these fights a little bit, and it's getting to a fierce stage. You're right, this needs to stop. I know most of us here are teenagers, hormones flowing and all that, plus some people just have a temper. But it doesn't help anyone to kick someone's ass verbally. Take your anger out on dead things like, I don't know, at the place where you can you know, swing a bat for hours or something. Flaming everyone is not exactly going to solve problems.

If this forum is going to develope at all and maintain it's status of being the biggest and best unofficial LP forum clearly the members have to do the work. If us LPF members don't want the forum to go to hell, we need to take ShinodaBear's advice. I can't say I'm perfect myself, but I will try.

Okay...I'll accept my consiquneses but...Not even saying anything about allieds actions...I dunno if mods get away with things like that dont you expect the Elites and others to Get mad if it happends to them...Thats REALLY messed up...I'm not flaming or anything...But dont Nail vero to the cross either she was just doing her job...I've seen Allied purposly leave a topic open till Clogz got his last shot in on me and then close it and then Atlien re-opens it and Gives me one last sucker punch (This Is on the Elite Forum so if Blue names dont understand)...I'm ready to serve my time so...When ever your ready....You talk about faverism but Clogz and Allied get off without warning or anything...

ShinodaBear, you're cool and I haven't see you around the boards at all lol. Thanks for pointing out the problems with the boards that maybe people have been trying to shy away from. It really hit me that there are some major problems that need to be resolved and fast. I knew about a few of the problems, such as the Azem / Weeztones, the off topicness and the Spam problem. Gosh I hate spam lol, I try not to do it and at least try to have something to say when I post. But I didn't really know about the rest *Maybe I'm blind?*. Anyway I understand your decisions *Understand is the word!*. I'm sorry Treeves and Azem are gonna be banned for a few days, but I'm glad it's not permanant and only temporary.

 

So it's up to us members whether all of these problems somehow get sorted out & resolved or not. I am for one all about getting it back up and stopping the hatred / tension going around. I support it 100% and will do whatever it takes. I would really hate to see the forum go down after all the work gone into it, I've met too many awesome people on here for it to all go away.

 

At first, I just though "A Linkin Park Forum! I love Linkin Park" and joined in the best interests of LP's music. After a while I realised it's more about just being fans of Linkin Park, it's more like a family here and I really appreciate that fact. It's an great forum, and I don't see how we can't fix any of this if we try. Where would I go?! What would I do to occupy my free time?! Who do I chat to?!

 

I obviously haven't been here for as long as many of the members here, so I don't really understand how the boards "use to be". I dunno? I wonder if it's all the new people coming *Including me* and invading the boards from the regular members from ages ago. If so, I'm really sorry. =( I hope the members who feel like that don't resent us or anything.

 

So overall, I think we can all overcome, tackle and get through this unharmed if we wanted to =D I hope everyone will agree and abide by it!

Its true, LPF has been getting out of hand because of all of us fighting and crap, but,

The mods have the last say because they are the mods, that's how it is everywhere, but you have as much a say as anyone else on this forum.

i haven't really noticed the flame wars...partly because i only read topics that have an interesting title, and reply when it's important..but i have been aware of the wars. I think that anyone who participated should at least get a 3 day suspension...not just the people it was about..but everyone, that way people don't think they can do things under the radar (oooh palindrome :thumbsup: )

 

I for one am trying to avoid member vs member wars, so i am requesting that "Hyper's sig shop" in the fan art thread is closed or deleted, because i do not want to compete with misery for sig making.

 

It did surprise me however to know that the mods have had trouble as well, but after thinking about it...it wouldn't be normal if all the mods got along well..there needs to be diversity, hence the turbulence between the mods.

 

I hope that this forum stays alive, because if it doesn't, i will be severely bored when counter-strike gets boring, lol, but not only that, it's just a great place, and to see it go down the hole would be such a shame.

I would have to agree with him, the forums are starting to get kinda spammy, there are also users that just plain insult things rather then creativley critsising things. I agree that authority has to be sorted and that some users may need to be banned and some topics removed. I think authority should be a lil more obvious in the boards =). I dont want to see the forum go down =(

It's pathetic that there's clicks evolving. Im not going to name anybody. This site has gotten pretty sad, it used to be so cheerful. All the mods are practically disappearing. hopefully it'll go back to being good...

You have just stated that the site has gone to the bottom. I disagree. I can(wont as of now) make it worse than the hackers did a while ago. Dont take the goodness of this forum for granted. If we all leave because you dont feel in control enough, the forum will die and be infested with noobs.

 

I agree about the spam. I hate it. Why cant you people post properly. I hate trying to decode half you your posts.

 

Personally, I think the main problem is with people who complain about things like this. Arguements are best finished and it is a part of human nature. If one doesnt finish an arguement, it carries over to another place. Even if they dont argue, the bad feeling is there and it will effect other posts, in other sections. I think another problem is that mods dont feel that they have enough power. I say that we get a complete new set of mods, except for allied and vero.

 

Maybe I need a break from this place. too much bitching by people who dont spend enough time to be allowed to bitch.

I am really glad that you have brought this up actually.. yea there is a lot of fighting in the forum and I think that we should stop it.. and some or most of us try to.. but we are human.. I mean no disrespect but sometimes fighting or arguing is essence in order to get other points of view out to the other person.. I'm not saying that we should fight.. we should bring the fighting down ALOT.. I mean.. there is always a fight going on somewhere in some thread.. and its not right.. I mean.. I do agree with the 3 rules the Clogz presented.. they are very understandable.. and are needed here... I would absolutely hate for LPF to keep going downhill.. this is a great place that we can hang with/ other LP fans.. and just make friends.. and to also talk about of course Linkin Park.. the many many threads that are made each day are for a purpose.. most are to discuss LP and some are to get to know each other.. we shouldn't' fight or disrespect anyone on LPF.. because basically we are all equal in some way.. so I'm really glad that ShinodaBear posted this thread.... because its telling us what we are doing wrong and the things that we should do to try and fix our mistakes...

 

id really hate to see LPF continue with this downfall... this is a great place.. so people just have respect for other users.. and Mods and what not.. don't' fight.. yea share your opinion but don't shove it in anyone's face!...I doubt that this will help but I wanted to share what I thought about this whole situation...
