I smiled as Rob and I leaned in to kiss. There was a loud explosion. I felt a searing pain on my face. My world went white.

 

(Mike's POV)

 

Holy shit what the fuck just happened? There was shouting and screaming. There was an acrid smell of smoke and fire. I looked over at a charcoaled covered Rob. He had a look of shock on his face as he cradeled Melissa in his arms. Her face was bloody and the blood blossomed over Rob's clean white shirt.

"Stay here! I'm going to find the others."

I commanded. I weaved in and out of people. who ever did this was responsible for kidnapping Melissa, I just knew it. I found the other, they were as chared looking as I was, but they were alright, shaken but alright.

"Where's Rob?"

Chester shouted above the noise and total chaos.

"He's with Melissa! This way!"

I said, grabbing Dave and Chester by the arms and pulled them along with me. I looked up on the stage, Jer and Tony were were nursing each other, Jer's arm was bleeding like hell.

 

(switch POV)

 

"I can't fucking Believe that you would put your best friends in danger over some stupid matter of revenge!"

The skinny black haired one shouted at The tall pirced man.

"He's right, you're a fucking psycho! We quit. Find someone else who dosent care about killing."

The chubby blond one said as he stood up with his friend and slammed his Laptop down.

"I don't fucking care, go."

 

(Melissa's POV)

 

I woke up to a splitting headache and the sound of the TV hurt my head. I blinked. The white blurryness didnt go away. I could feel my breath quicken, my pulse when up as I went into panic. I reached out and grapsed nothing but air. Suddenly I got a wiff of a scent, something that was burnt. I felt someone take my hand and they ran it over their chin. The gotee was soft surounded by a stubble. As I ran my hand over it I could hear something that sounded like humming.

"Rob?"

I managed to say, my voice hoars. I smelled something wet and salty. Something warm and wet fell onto my hand.

"Rob? I cant see you. where are you?"

I said as I continued to run my hands over the rough stubble and the fuzzy gotee.

"I'm right here."

I took my other hand and felt around for Rob's shoulder. When I found it, I wrapped my arms around Rob and cried.

"Please rob, dont leave me."

"I'm not going any where, I'm right here."

I woke up in the middle of the night. Everything went from black to white in a split seccond. There was a loud shout as I felt someone try to roughly grab me. I threw my hands up a seccond too late. I felt someone slap me back and forth.

"Dont You fucking touch her!"

I heard Mike and Rob shout at the same time. Then someone strong pulled whoever it was off of me. I sobbed as my cheeks stung.

"I cant believe you! What the Fuck is Your problem Brad?"

Dave shouted. I heard more struggeling in the direction of Dave's voice. I grabbed rob's shoulder and used him as a support to stand up. The minute I was on my feet, I felt another sting on my face and fell backwards.

"She is the Fucking reason why we have to push things back!"

I caugh Dave's scent as two people helped me up. My feet were unsteady as I tried to gain my balance.

"No, Brad's right. I'm just pulling you guys down with my problems."

I felt Mike's grip on my hands.

"Your my family. Your like the little sister I never had. Brad can take that stick he has up his ass and swallow it for all I care."

"Mike's right. We really care about you."

I heard Dave said. Then Joe said something from over where Brad was, he must have been the one who was holding Brad back.

"Yeah, your like the bands little sister. We couldnt just leave you."

"You were our first fan,"

Chester said as Dave and Rob helped me back up into my bed.

"And theres nothing any one can say or do to make us feel any diferent."

Rob said as he sat down on the end of my bed and placed his hand on mine.

"Well you wont have to worry about me any more! I Quit!"

Brad snarled as he stomped out of the room. I felt the tears slip down my cheeks. I jumped as the door slammed.

"I'm so sorry about all of this."

I said as I gave Mike a hug.

"Don't worry, he'll come back in a while. Just give it a week. In the mean time, I know exactly who I want to play guitar for us untill then."

I wiped my eyes off with the sheet.

"*hic*who?"

"You of course. You and I both know that you can play the songs just as good as Brad, You even showed us that you could play it with your eyes closed."

" I dont know if I can do it."

The doctor said I could go. But I was afraid of how to get down. I refused to be put in a wheel chair. Mike also told the doctors that there was no way he was going to let them restrict me. Geez I can tell you that trying to get dressed was quite an intresting task. I had the hardest time trying to get my shirt on. But luckily enough, I had chester helping me. Mike and Rob were doing what they could to get all my papers signed. Dave and Joe were cleaning up the bus and Dave was switching bunks with me so I could be on the bottom and closer to Rob. Soon I heard Mike and Rob enter the room. Rob no longer had the chared smell, he smelled like hickory, just like his drumsticks. He took me by the hands. I was too afraid to move.

"I'm scared Rob,"

I said, not wanting to move.

"You have to trust me Melissa. I wont let anything happen to you."

He said. He slowly took a step backwards. Trembeling, I cautiously took a step forward. Rob took another step. I followed the touch of his hands. Then After about ten minutes, I felt a breeze on my face and the damp smell of earth and grass invaded my nose. Then the heat began to pund down on me for the moment I was outside. Following Rob's touch, I moved from the sun into the coolness of the shade.

"Where are we Rob?"

I asked. I was more calm then when I had left the room, I caught the scent of Dave and Joe. Rob led me over to the back studio room. I caught a wiff of mikes cologne. I made face.

"Mike you put too much cologne on this morning."

I said. I heard him chuckle. I felt something heavy being put over my head as the bus lurched forward. I let go of Rob's hand and ran my fingers over what had just been put in my lap. Six strings, the rosewood fret board, this was Mike's old guitar that he played with on Hybrid theory. I felt someone press something into my hand. It was a pick. I took it and strummed on the guitar.

"Play a song for me. Let's see what you remember."

Mike said. I changed the position of my fingers and started playing. I switched the position of my fingers once more. I heard Mike whoop for joy. There was a knock on the door and I heard it open up. an unfamiliar scent came in. I quickly gasped Rob's hand in instinct, praying that it wasnt Brad.

"Its alright, its only Bob."

I sighed a breath of relief. It was just the guy's manager.

"Jesus what happened?"

He questioned. His voice full of concern and suprise.

"She was caught in the explosion at the mest concert. She cant see any more. Be careful when you walk into a room not to scare her."

Mike said.

"Alright, Where's Brad? We have to be in philly for saturday's live 8 concert."

I hung my head at the mention of Brad's name. Rob rubbed my back with his hand.

"Well Bob, Brad didnt like the fact that we cared more about Melissa then doing some of the concert. He left."

Rob explained, I could hear a hint of disdain in his voice.

"Who's going to replace him?"

"Melissa will. Brad'll come back in a week or so just give it some time ok?"

Chester said. I heard Bob give an impaitent snort.

"What makes you think he'll come back?"

He asked.

"Because he really loves this band. He just needs time to himself right now. I don't blame him for getting mad at me though."

I said. Rob gave me a hug and caused the butt of the guitar to jam into my leg.

"I'm sorry..."

He said. I smiled painfully as I removed the guitar butt from my leg.

"Its ok."

I said. Mike must have stood up because I suddenly felt a little lopsided as I fell into Rob's lap. He pulled the guitar strap over my head. I held out both of my hands and rob placed them in his palms. He stood infront of me and I followed his touch. Chester was in the front watching TV. He was muttering something about people being all talk and not doing anything about it.

"Rob describe to me what Chester's watching."

I said.

"Do you really want to know? You wont like it."

He said with a hint of saddness.

"Tell me."

I insisted.

"Well its in africa, the children are really skinny, skinnier then chester, you can see their ribs and bones. There's a baby crying. It's just sitting there in the middle of a field, theres no one there to get it. The houses are made out of cardboard and scraps of metal. Theres a little boy, he cant be any older then Draven, holding a rifle."

"Thanks rob."

I followed his touch again to the bunk area. To my right the top privacy curtian slid open.

"Rob dont do anything stupid."

I heard rob turn his head to look at Joe.

"Yes i said that."

Joe said as he slid the curtians shut. Rob took his hands away and placed them on my shoulders. I felt pressure on my shoulders.

"Slowly go down alright?"

I bent my knees slowly I could feel Rob going down with me. He then turned me to the left and slid open the privacy curtins.

"What are we doing at Phoenix's bunk?"

I asked. Robs voice held a smile in it.

"He traded bunks with you. Just so you could be closer to me and you wont worry."

"That was nice of him."

I said as I felt around my bunk to make sure that there were no suprises. My hands fell upon a teddy bear. I ran my fingers over it. It had a mohawk.

"He's for you."

Rob said as I hugged the bear. It made a noise that sounded like Rob's.

"I shall call him Rob, and he shall be mine, and he shall be my Robbie."

It said. I laughed.

"If you squeeze the other paw it says something different."

Rob said as I squeezed the other paw.

" I ordered a frappichino wheres my ficking frappichino? I'm an angry white guy, I have no soul. Fuck! Fucker!"

I laughed as chesters voice came out of the bear.

Mike had me practicing on the Guitar the entire tiem till we got to philly. I just wanted to know what it looked like out there. It must have been something amazing to see. The sound of the corwd was deafening. But in all sense I was a little down and depressed. We were backstage, I was going over some chords on Mikes old guitar, when someone's hands wrapped around and hugged me. it was mike. He was the greatest for still putting up with me after all of this shit.

"Melissa, the doctor called me and said that you might still have a chance at seeing again."

I swallowed hard as I hugged him.

"Mike, I've done alot of shit, but theres nothing that I regret. But one thing is I've learned alot by being blind for this short amount of time, is that you have to learn how to be able to do things on your own. I dont know if I want to see again."

I said to him. He hugged me really hard. I smelled something that I didnt want to smell.

"Everythings going to be alright."

Mike said. I sniffed at the air again. I frowned.

"Mike what's Brad doing here?"

"Well uh.....he called me this morning and said that he wanted to talk to you. Just hear him out alright? I dont know what hes gonna say but just listen."

I nodded my head. Brads scent came closer. I shuddered as he touched my arm to let me know that he was there.

"Melissa, I'm just really sorry about what happened. I know I was a real shit to you. I can understand if you dont want to forgive me for it, because I wouldnt forgive my self either if I did something like that."

He said. I could smell a faint scent of salt on him. Tears. Soon he hugged me.

"I forgive you brad."

I said.

"Thank you."

He whispered.

"The guys are in the pre-show huddle, you'd better get over there."

Brad told me.

"You should be the one playing not me."

"Well you deserve this. I know you can play better then me."

Brad said as he led me over to the huddle where Rob and Mike put their arms around me, including me in their huddle.

"Alright, we know what we're doing with this guys."

Chester said. I could feel the high energy in the circle.

"We have to give it our best and just go out there and do it."

he said again. I licked my dry lips.

"Lets go out there and kill it. Remember don't make it look like an accident. Somebodys gotta do it, it might as well be us."

Mike said.

"No pressure Melissa. Just play like we practiced. If you mess up and get lost, Listen to Joe, he can get you back on track."

Dave said.

"Alright. I'm ready as I'll ever be for this."

I said as I gulped. We broke the circle and Rob walked with me out on stage to a stool where I could sit and play. They brought it out there so I wouldnt trip over something. I sat down. I heard the roar of the crowd.

"Hey y'all lets get this thing started!"

Mike shouted as Joe went into the Somewhere I Belong intro. I played it as best I could. The roar of the corwd was deafening. after we played that song, Mike and Chester did their thing in Breaking The Habit. Mike paused after we played that song.

"Y'all might notice that Big Bad Brad isnt up here playing with us tonight. He couldnt play tonight, so my cousin Melissa is gonna fill in for him. I just want you to know that after what she went through, its a miricle that she can be here playing with us on stage."

Mike shouted. The crowd roared and apploded.

"Theyre cheering for you."

Dave whispered in my ear, making me grin.

"We're here for unity. I want y'all to put your hands up for the people that were hurt at the Mest concert bombing a few days ago. I want you to put your hands up for the people in africa!"

Chester shouted.

"See what the miricles can do? Melissa wouldnt be here if it wasnt for a miricle. Its a miricle that she can still play the guitar after getting caught in the bombing."

Dave said in the mic.

"But even though she's blind, she has learned that she can make a difference by being here and by playing the best she can."

I felt mike's arm around me. I smiled.

"Say something will ya?"

Mike said.

"Well, I am lucky to be here and I'm happy to be able to make a difference in the lives of the african people. They are alot worse off then me. But if we can band together, we can change the leaders minds and make a huge difference."

I said. My heart was pounding and my throat was dry. We played the rest of the set, then we played the set with jay-z.

(three months Pass)

 

the guys have been working hard on their new album. I've been with them in the studio helping record some of the piano parts so Mike could focus more on the rapping and the guitar playing. I've even moved in with Rob so It would be easier for me to get around in since he lived in a one story house with a garage that he used to keep his drumset in. I guess you could say that we are together....we share the house and all. But its not an official relationship if you get my drift. the guys have even figured it out. But its like an unspoken relationship. Mike wasnt too happy about me moving in with Rob at first but he and I both know that for some obious reasons it would look strange and down right weird to some people. atleast if they wernt a LP fan. The LP fans knew everything that went on in the LP guy's lives. I was now known as the pity date and rob was suposedly dating me because he felt sorry for me. Thats not why though. I hope thats not why. Every morning I would wake up to the sound Of Rob getting up and opening the curtins of our room and taking clothes out of his dresser. Then I would ask him the same question every morning. Some times the answer was the same but today's answer was different.

"Rob, what do you look like today?"

"Umm, I'm looking like I always do with a black tee-shirt black cargos and my black hat."

"Which Black Tee-shirt?"

"The one you got me."

"Ok."

Rob pulled me by my hands so I could stand up. He wrapped his arms around me, pulling me into one of his bear hugs. I felt his gotee brush against my cheek. It always felt so soft compared to Dave and Mike's gotees.

ok heres the rest of the chapter. I had to run off and get to class. lol im going to finish it up.

 

He kissd me on the cheek. i gave a little giggle. it tickeled.

"we have to go into the studio to do about an hour or so work to wrap everything up and all."

"Alright."

I managed to get dressed. rob grabbed his drumsticks and they got in the car to drive to the studio. I heard the sound of the radio to go along with stopping at a stoplight. Rob had taken me to the doctors yesterday, they had changed their minds and said that if I wasnt seeing by now then I wouldnt ever see again. Well screw them. I just want to see rob's face one more time. We moved in from the sun into the coolness of the studio. I could hear that Mike and Chester were already in there tightening up the last few parts of vocals. I blinked for a split moment. The dull white of the studio lights came into sharper focus. I blinked again as I sat down with rob on the studio couch. I turned my head in the direction that rob was sitting. I could see a fuzzy outline of his head and his hat. Then slowly as the other guys came in to put the finishing touches on the album. I blinked again. I gasped and grabbed rob's hand. He turned to look at me.

"What? What's wrong?"

He asked as he looked into my eyes.

"Rob I can see. I can see you."

I watched his brow knit.

"Are you serious? How many fingers am I holding up?"

I rolled my eyes.

"four. Mike's wearing his black DC shirt and Chester is wearing a white Polo shirt, dave is playing with his dog. Joe's messing around with Brad because he just stole his head phones."

"Holy crap your not joking are you."

He wrapped me up in another Rob-hug. I closed my eyes as I burried my face in his shirt. He still smelled like I knew he would. Like hickory. I am so glad that the first thing I see in months is him.

"Guys, Me and Melissa have to go, we'll be back in about twenty minutes." Rob jumped up and took me by the hand.

 

We sat in the doctors office. The doctor shined the light in my eyes. I then red some letters off of the chart for him.

"Well it looks like your seeing well. I'd say your vision has returned to normal"

At those words I jumped into Rob's arms. This was so awesome. I could see again. On the way back to the studio, Rob said

"You know this is the best reason to celebrate and have a party."

He said. I nodded.

"But what are we going to tell the guys?"

Rob put his arm around me as we walked into the recording studio. The guys were sitting around wating for us.

"So what was so important that you guys had to rush off?"

Dave asked. Brad smiled at me.

"Umm her vision."

Rob said as he tried to keep a strait face.

"So what about it?"

Mike asked.

"I can see."

I said. the effect of these three words was so intresting that it almost made me and rob laugh. Chester fell sideways off of his chair, Brad dropped his guitar on Joe's leg, Dave and Mike just stood there with their mouths open.

"Oh and Mike you should have stuck with the red or blue because the green just dosent work for you."

Melissa said as she poked her cousin in the stomache. Mike hugged her so hard it almost crushed her bones.

"You know what, Lets have a party to celebrate."

Mike said. Melissa shared a look with Rob.

"I'll bring the beer."

Chester cheered as he climbed to his feet. Brad was apologizing to a really anoyed DJ.

"Who's house?"

Chester asked.

"Not ours, the last time you had a party at our house, we had trouble getting the smell of beer out forever."

Rob said. I still cringed at the memory.

"I vote Joe's house! he has a pool!"

Chester said hapily. Joe groaned but didnt say anything against it.

"How about tomorrow so we can get everything ready?"

Joe begged. Me and the guys laughed.

"Yeah sure, besides I think Melissa and Rob want to do something specail."

Chester said as he stood up to shake Rob's hand. Rob raised an eyebrow as Chester laughed like a mad man. Chester made Rob close his hand around what ever Chester had given him. Chester walked away after that as Rob looked at what was in his hand.

"CHESTER!!"

Rob went after the singer right as he threw down what he was given. Mike Dave and I looked at what Chester gave to rob.

"What is it?"

Brad asked as he was cradeling his guitar.

"Its an extra snug fit condom."

Mike said as he started laughing. I wiped a tear of laughter from my eye.

"Only Chester would keep a condom in his pocket."

Dave said as he sat down, breathless from laughter. They heard Chesters screams of terror as Rob walked back into the room with a smug look on his face.

"What did you do to him?"

Joe asked as he bit his lip to keep from laughing.

"Oh nothing, lets just say that he can now hit a higher octave when he sings."

Rob said with an evil look on his face.

"Robert Gregory!"

I said with an angry look on my face. I hit him lightly on the arm.

"Dont make me ground you."

I said trying to keep a serious face. He stuck out his lower lip and did his pouty face.

"Awww, what am I grounded for this time?"

"No drums."

I said as I kissed him. His face lit up as I kissed him. Brad and Mike made gagging noise.

"I'm so glad that I can see your eyes again. They're what I missed the most."

I said as I flipped off Mike and Brad.

"Go get a room!"

The others said as they laughed. I could hear chester cat calling from behind the sofa.

"Nice Idea."

Rob mumbeled as he pulled me into the sound booth and shut the door. We continued to kiss passionatly. There was some banging on the door that came from Mike.

"Come on and open up!! Don't hog her Rob! Damn it!"

Rob and I laughed as we continued to kiss. The slamming on the door stopped. Rob tried to jiggle the handle.

"Dang it. I think one of the guys jammed the door handle."

He mumbeled into my ear. We were in this tight space with no way to move.

"Alright guys, if you promise to stop making out and trying to break Mike's record for longest make out session we'll let you out"

Chester said.

"Yeah yeah we'll stop."

Rob said. I felt the door nob turn. it was jammed right into my ribs. I fell out when the door was opened, with Rob right on top. The other guys groaned.

"Well this is comfy."

I said. Rob flashed me a look saying lets mess with them. I nodded slightly so only he could see.

"Mmmm! extreamly comfy. Hey chester gimme one of them again."

"EEEWWW gross! Not on the studio floor!"

Chester said as he gagged. Rob helped me up off the floor while he laughed at the look on Mike's face. That is so Hilarious.

"Alright lets go get something to eat I'm hungary."

Joe said.

"Umm how about we go to the mexican place up the street?"

Rob suggested. I knew the place he was talking about. It was cheap place to eat and it had really good food. We all walked there. When we got in the resturant, we sat down at a large booth. I sat with rob. we held hands under the table. The top of his hands were so soft. There were some LP fans that approached the guys and asked for autographs. They were a bunch of girls. One of them gave me the nastiest look. I just pretended not to see it.

"So who's she?"

One of the girls asked Mike.

"That's my cousin Melissa. She helped us with recording some of the stuff for the album and all. She's also Rob's girlfirend....I think, so are you two officaily going out now?"

I watched Rob shrugg his shoulders.

"I dunno I guess so, if its alright with her."

"Its fine with me."

I said.

"So its setteled she's Rob's girlfriend and honorary Linkin Park member."

Chester said in a way that made it sound like he just decided the fate of a million men. I couldnt help but laugh at him.

"ok then."

The girls said as they walked away with their autographs.

There was a bunch of loud laughter in Joe's living room. Every one was almost near drunk. They sat in a circle on the kitchen floor, and empty beer bottle sat in the middle of the circle. They all laughed drunkenly.

"Its you turn..."

Chester slurred as he gave the bottle to Melissa. She teetered back and forth and fell into Rob's lap. She turned her head and looked up at him. He bent down and their lips touched. The rest of the guys had gotten up and left the kitchen. Mike fell asleep on Joe's couch.

 

two and a half hours later, Mike woke up. Brad and Dave were asleep on the floor and chester was stuffed in a chair snoring. joe was passed out in the hall with his face up and tounge out. He heard the sound of more kissing. He went into the kitchen to investigate the noise.

"I cant believe that you two are still making out. Have you stopped yet?"

Mike asked in amazement to find his cousin and one of his best friends continuing to make out on the kitchen floor.

"Eww gross. dont get anything on Joe's floor."

He said. covered his eyes with his hands. He yawned and went back to the couch and went back to sleep.

 

"Mike wake up!"

Mike was roughly shaken by Joe.

"Whazit?"

"Melissa and Rob have been at it since eleven last night. Its almost ten in the morning."

Mike looked in the dj's eyes. He groaned, he had such an aweful headache to go with his hang over.

"Are you kidding me? is it a reccord twelve hours?"

Joe sat down by mike.

"Yeah a reccord twelve hours. I'm sorry to say that your and annas two hours are nixed now."
