I was sooo very thrilled to have the OK from my Dr. to start working out again.

It's been over 4 years in the waiting.

I don't have time for a gym, so, as a Christmas present to myself, for being such a good boy and staying away from those nasty cancer sticks, I bought a BOWFLEX, here I am flexing my muscles !! Ahh, I can feel the burn coming already !!!

.

I submit this as the BEFORE picture, taken 2 minutes ago.

I'll get the gut shots in at a later time.

I didn't know my "man boobs" comment had such an effect on you.

Seriously, congrats! I got a treadmill, eliptical trainer, and weigh set for Xmas. I'm thrilled! I will be your emotional support when you feel like slacking.

I was thinking of getting the Tread Climber, but I have no fucking place to put it. And I figure I get enough walking miles already.

Tread Climbers are pretty cool but elliptical trainers are my FAVORITE. Unlike most cardio machines, elps. also have arm handles that you move as well so you are working out ALL of your body and not just your legs. I still have my old one that I have had for a few years I am trying to find a new home for. I don't need two. But they are nifty cool. I definitely recommend elps. to people looking for a good cardio machine. They also place a lot less stress on your knees than things like step-machines and treadmills. But I am so happy for you and your new Bowflex. New toys are always fun. I wanted a bowflex but couldn't afford everything so I just got a free weight set. I'm jealous!

They actually aren't that expensive. I went with the "BLAZE" first and formost because it had what I needed... the basic shit to work out with.

I was thinking of going with the $1599 model, but it doesn't fold up like the BLAZE does.

Mine was only $899 with free shipping.

Came in 4 boxes, the fucking thing is huge !!

The cost (low end) is $14 a month. Which I can pay for with just the spare change I collect each month, which is usually about $30 or so.

Surely you can afford $14 a month ??

I don't finance anything anymore. Why pay finance charges? After the elliptical trainer, treadmill, and weight set, that was almost $3000. Plenty for Xmas! But I have my high school reunion coming up and figured it was worth the money to be able to rub it in the faces of all the ass hats that never asked me to prom (I was a nerd x 10)! :D

My husband used to have a bowflex before we were married and he was ripped as hell. He eventually sold it though and now he is a tub. He SWEARS by them. I truly wish you the best of luck. I started my work out program on the 1st and have been sticking to it. It's hard but I wish the best for you and am happy to hear you can work out again.

All in all, I have learned alot from my last experience with working out.

I used to be one of those types who would give myself a SUPER INTENSE workout.

My max free weight bench is 420. I used to workout with usually around 300 or so pounds . Had a fucking HUGE chest and great upper body strength. What I had done was NOT work my upper body for a couple of months, I was still going to the gym, but I was focusing more on cardio vascular and my lower body. I figured my upper was just fine and that I could slack a bit.

Well anyways, after a couple months of doing NOTHING with my arms, I decided to just give them a nice workout for the day.

I started out with 330 lbs 10 reps, then moved right to 360 doing ten reps.

The workout went great, I wasn't having any problems at all. Well anyways, several hours later, I had a HUGE pain in my left arm. So bad that I had to go to the emergency room. They had to give me 3 pain killers and a shot before the pain felt at least ALMOST tolerable.. It more or less knocked me out, but the pain was still there.

Lasted for almost 2 weeks. I was on seriously heavy pain killers that whole time.

They took X-rays/MRI/electro shit, all that shit that you can think of to put me in medical debt.. Well anyways, it was determined that I did not have a shoulder injury, or arm injury, what I had was an injury to my spine.

The nerve in my arm was getting a signal from my spine that it was in pain. And I also lost the use of my left arm, as it could barely move and could not grip. My right side was somewhat affected, as were my legs.

So anyways, I have had a couple surgeries and slow rehab with hardly any results because the nerves were simply damaged, the muscles are fine.

I think my main motivation for quitting smoking was the idea that my body would heal itself faster without all those chemicals in it.

I have made a very steady decline in the last few years basically because my body wouldn't cooperate with my motivation level.

It wasn't for lack of trying.

I have finally after over 4 years of this shit, gained a return in nerve response, and resistance, and I tell you what, my fat ass has never been happier.

My Dr. kept telling me to be patient and let it return on it's own, and I almost believed it was a total crock of shit. That it never would.

Damn, that SUCKS. I know how you feel, though. When I was pregnant, ALL I wanted to do was work out. It is miserable when you want to improve yourself but are physically unable to do so. Then after my little sproutlet popped out, I still had to wait 6 weeks before the doctor gave me the go ahead. But by that time, you are a fat slob that has to start from scratch. :p

What kind of weird freak are you when you are pregnant? Bending over the toilet for 9 months was enough of a work out for me.

Of course, I walk a mile a day with the baby and think that's enough of a work out for 30 people, so don't go buy me.

The dick has no conscience and the heart has no rational abilities.

And bowflex schmoflex - the only thing you need to lose weight is a kind hearted gay man for a best friend.

He picks me up from work every night and forces me to swim laps at the pool. Mostly because he wants to check out the hot guys in their speedo's, but he pretends he's doing it for me.

I basically have a free personal trainer.

Congrats on your new machine!

Great timing on this post. Gotta question or two for you.

How did you decide upon the model? Did you find a shop or two and try some of the Bowflexs out?

And...anyone else use these? What do you find?

Anyone install those rubber gym floor tiles? Any advice?

When we bought our new house it came with a complete gym - a 16 x 14 room in the basement filled with these big metal contraptions. Floor to ceiling mirrors on 3 walls, the whole sheebang. (hubby could tell you what it all was). We'd rather have room for treadmill and bike, and hubby is keen to try out a bowflex.

We just sold it off! A guy came and finished dismantling it and hauling it away on Tuesday, and yesterday I took off the baseboards and ripped up the carpet. Today I'm down there to finish scrubbin hell outta it. Tomorrow..spackle walls a bit, then on the weekend I'll paint.

I'm researching tile floors. Hubby wants gym flooring. I'm thinking I could probably install the interlocking ones myself. I've been all over the web researching/reviewing bowflex, floors, treadmills. bikes...

Any advices?

I'm so bloody excited to get this place going. I MISS a treadmill. (moved outta apt that had a great gym in the complex). I'm going all out... lovely paint shades, put in a tv, the sound system... a few plants...

The adjoining room? I'm building a freaking SAUNA in it! So jazzed.

So your post is timely timely timely. I'm totally in "build the gym mode".

So tell me more about the bowflex. Here's the thing - hubby has worked out in gyms with weights and stuff for years - but he's never used a bowflex. It's Just Like Him to simply decide he wants one without trying it out.

I want to make sure it's something that fulfills his gym needs. (I'm no weight gal, no gym gal, so I haven't a clue) (I do treadmill, calisthenics, sauna)

so if guy is used to going to the gym and using the contraptions... will he like a bowflex?

How did you decide upon the model?

I knew I just needed a machine that did the basic things I wanted to do.. strengthen my upper body.

Did you find a shop or two and try some of the Bowflexs out?
My friend Billy that used to live across the street from me had one when his friend Pat was living with him. He had the Extreme 2, I used it a couple of times when I had barely any feeling in my left arm. The resistance settings were easy as hell. I wanted one then, but had no room for it.

And...anyone else use these?
Billy, his room mate Pat, and Billy's bitch Becci all used it, and each of them toned up VERY quickly.

What do you find?
I find $14 a month a cheap investment... however, I will pay it off sooner then the terms. $899 with free shipping is a great price.. This thing is fucking solid manufacturing at it's best. No skimpy parts on it. The assembly can fuck with ya when you first look at the manual, but after you get going and sort all your shit out, it doesn't take much time at all. I just gathered the recommended tools and had it up in no time.

eat a good brekfast, tomato (or chicken noodle) soup PB&J and fruit for lunch, and a light dinner, that's what i do. Just a tip, but bread, also pasta, burns fast and hot so toast with low sugar jam and no butter is a good addition to a brekfast, and a light sandwich is good for lunch, oh, and turkey makes you sleepy so don't eat any if you plan on working out later.

And if you are in it to burn fat, doing some running is very important, bowflex is great for mucle and all, but running (and i don't mean a damn treadmill) is very good at burning fat. and of course working the legs. fat people usually have strong legs from constantly hauling the extra weight, so running may be a faster way to burn than all day on the bowflex, in the very least it is a healthy addition to a workout, and helps the Cardiovascular system. if you don't like to run full bore the 'airborne shuffle' is good for pretty much everyone, and becouse it's slow (but still forces the mucle to work fairly hard), it can be a good stamina workout for fast runners.

well, good luck, and maybe next time you flip us off it won't look like a weather baloon holding a hotdog ;)
