Qwest Posted August 30, 2005 Author Posted August 30, 2005 I hear your point of view but I have to say I personally know forum admins who run Political boards and if you know what you're doing it can be quite successful. I never said it would be easier than running LPF or anything, only that it's doable. I gather from your point of view you believe it's not so to that I give you Google. I say go do a search on "political forums" and note the many quite massive forums that do it, i.e. politicalcrossfire.com. I'm actually fairly well experienced with running forums and have been since 1998. I won't go into a long bragging list of forums that I have owned and or operated but clublexus.com is one and it's not even my largest one by far. I've dealt with just about every type of problem a person possibly can run into running a forum. My point in all this is that yes of course any forum will attract undesirables, political or not. Dealing with them is pretty simple actually. If they need to be banned they will be. If they can behave themselves and handle adult conversation then they can stay. To say that a forum based on debating a major topic will fail without question goes against the very basis of what forums are all about. Now.... I don't want you to take this is a snide remark, it is actually an honest question (because you never know who you're talking to on the net ).... To say that it's the dumbest idea you've ever heard of I ask you how many forums you've admined? Just to give more credibility to your opinions. - Qwest Qwest: All respect due, that is the dumbest idea I have ever heard. Follow my logic: Talking politics leads to debates. Debating leads to picking sides. Picking sides leads to opinions. Opinions lead to arguements. Arguements lead to disgruntled people. Disgruntled people get threads locked, suspended and banned. You disagree with my logic? Case in point, look at SniperVirus. He was very much so against gays. He wanted to talk politics. Things got heated and he got banned and thread locked. Same happened to Treeves. And Clogz. And myself. Talking politics is like talking religion or sex or taboo. It leads to the very thing that you, Qwest, as an admin should be out to put to an end, so how can you be here sponsoring this fool-hearty idea? I will not be joining. My sincerest apologies, but I do not need an arguement blowing up in my face, especially knowing it is inevitable. majinkamahl Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 I hear your point of view but I have to say I personally know forum admins who run Political boards and if you know what you're doing it can be quite successful. As do I. I never said it would be easier than running LPF or anything' date=' only that it's doable.I never said you did. I gather from your point of view you believe it's not so to that I give you Google. I say go do a search on "political forums" and note the many quite massive forums that do it, i.e. politicalcrossfire.com.And of these, how many have banned members and locked threads? Your point is MOOT. I'm actually fairly well experienced with running forums and have been since 1998. Cool. I won't go into a long bragging list of forums that I have owned and or operated but clublexus.com is one and it's not even my largest one by far. I've dealt with just about every type of problem a person possibly can run into running a forum. Again, a MOOT point. Owning 1000 forums still does not make you fit to stop a political arguement. No pre-requisite can do that. THAT is MY point. My point in all this is that yes of course any forum will attract undesirables, political or not.No offense: but no duh! Dealing with them is pretty simple actually. If they need to be banned they will be. Look at my statement in the Dark Room about banning. If they can behave themselves and handle adult conversation then they can stay. To say that a forum based on debating a major topic will fail without question goes against the very basis of what forums are all about. Again, I never said it would FAIL, I said it would have argurment, and for that reason I will not participate. Now.... I don't want you to take this is a snide remark, it is actually an honest question (because you never know who you're talking to on the net ).... To say that it's the dumbest idea you've ever heard of I ask you how many forums you've admined? How many forums I have been the admin of and how many dumb ideas I have heard do not make a direct correlation. The answer though is probably less than yours, but does it matter? This is not a cock measuring contest. I made a simple remark. Talking politics leads to fights. I do not care who you are, who you support. If you encounter even just 1 person who does not have the same opinion, arguements on politics ensue. My philosophy: YOU CAN BE RIGHT OR YOU CAN BE HAPPY. When talking politics, people are so convinced they have to be right or make people see their way. I would prefer to be happy and not discuss the topic at all.Just to give more credibility to your opinions. There is no such thing as credibility on the internet. I could lie through my teeth and you would have no way of proving it either way. - Qwest All that aside, I hope things go good for you. Quote Free Your Mind

Hybrid Soldier Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 With someone so opinionated, that suprises me, but in a sense it doest, but you seem to like it best when your opinions clash as little as possible with someone elses. While I, on the other hand, like arguing with people, its fun and entertaining. Quote
majinkamahl Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 No one ever wins in a fight. The fact that you were fighting represents a failure to communicate and resolve things peacefully. And fighting on the internet is like running in the special olympics. Even if you win, you are still retarded. Quote Free Your Mind

LPGotLinkinPark Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 The difference being? Like discussing issues and not simply cussing eachother out and saying the other is stupid. Basicly. You type out your response with a little sense, some proof to back your opinion, and you do it maturely. That is how you don't a argue it. Quote rep me!! | xanga | add me on myspace
