EXCLUSIVE LinkinParkForums.com -CHEAPSHOT- INTERVIEW

Chester_Chaz00: Teal

Cheapshot: Sienna

1 - At what age did you first realize you wanted to be a DJ?

I first realized I wanted to be a DJ at the age of 11. My older brother had a friend who was a DJ...I had never seen anything like it at that time and was infatuated with the fusion of music and technology.

2 - At what age did you get your set of first turntables and if you can remember what was the first club you ever DJ-ed in?

I saved every cent for a year and bought my first pair of Technic 1200's and a numark 1650 mixer when I was 12. The first club I played at was when I was 18, called "Constipation" in the city of Pomona, CA

3 - When you were growing up did you have any influence that made you want to become a DJ?

Just hip-hop music in general influenced me. At that age I was listening to Beastie Boys, Run DMC, LL Cool J, NWA, Eazy E, and Digital Underground to name a few.

4 - How long have you known mike and the rest of Linkin Park?

I've know Mike and Joe Hahn since 1997. I met Mike through Ryu, and I met Joe through a mutual friend. At that time I was a college-radio DJ and he worked for a radio trade magazine who I reported to.

5 - Had you done any work with Mike and Linkin Park before you recorded PPR: KUT for reanimation?

No...we were just mutual friends. I was always a fan of Mike's work, even back then. But we never worked on music together until Reanimation.

6 - How was the experience for you working first off on Reanimation with Mike and the rest on LP and then now working on Fort Minor?

It was an honor to be a part of the Reanimation project. It showed me that Mike never forgot his roots, even after all his success, and it also showed me that he was a fan of my work...friends or not, mike would never hire someone he didnt respect on his records.

7 - Jay-Z is executive producing Fort Minor did you meet him whilst in the studio and what was that like for you?

Unfortunately, we didnt get a chance to meet Jay Z during the recording of the Fort Minor record. Mike would relay messages from Jay since they speak regularly...but we did get a chance to meet Jay Z at the VMA's in Miami. It was truly an honor to shake that guy's hand!

8 - You went on tour with Mike to Europe how was that experience for you and what was your personal favorite show?

Touring Europe for the first time was incredible. We got to see what the culture was like in other parts of the world, play for bigger audiences than we (Styles of Beyond) ever had before, eat some good-ass food, and meet some great people. If i HAD to choose my personal favorite show, I would say The Pukkelpop festival in Belgium.

9 - When you were on Fort Minor Europe Tour and dj-ing in front of thousands of people what would you do to get ready for each show?

hahaha...my little ritual is drink 4 beers to kinda shake off the nerves. I would also have 6 beers waiting for me on stage. I never once messed up either!

10 - What do you want to accomplish out of the rising tied?

I want the record to be a huge success, obviously...not only is it an incredible record, with incredible features on it, and shows Mike's true talent and hiphop roots...but it will also introduce Styles of Beyond to the world and help promote our next album.

11 - What are your hopes for the Fort Minor US tour?

I just hope the Fort Minor tour will be as successful in the states as it was in Europe. From what i hear, the US is a little harder to please than Europe.

12 - Do you have anything planned in the future with Mike or the rest of Linkin park?

Well Styles of Beyond has signed to Linkin Park's label, Machine Shop Records...so now, not only are we friends with them, but we are business associates as well. I'm sure we will be tied into a lot of things that have to do with LP in the future, and vice versa. It only makes sense.

13 - For the new and upcoming Styles of Beyond album do you think any members of Linkin Park will be featured on that record?

We're not sure yet. That will all unravel as we get deeper into the recording of our next record.

14 - Now you have probably worked with lots of people of the past years can you honestly say who was your favorite artist to work with?

Aside from Mike and LP, I would probably say my favorite person I have worked with in the past would be Nappy Roots on Atlantic Records. They were great guys...we had an awesome time recording music together.

15 - Have you ever visited LinkinParkForums.com before? What did you think?

I haven't yet, but i'll make sure I do in the coming days. thanks for the interview!

From all the LPF staff and myself we would personally like to send thanks to Cheapshot for doing this interview. We really do appreciate it.

Look for more interviews in the coming weeks!
