ok, so weve been studying WWII in History class these past couple weeks. Ironically the Fort Minor cd came out with the song "Kenji". So today being Pearl Harbor day, another coincidence, i brought in the FM tracks and asked my teacher if we could listen to a song about WWII. He is a goofy guy and said yeah. So this made my day, listening to FM in hsitory class. He told me that was the first rap song he actually listened to the words ad wasn't offended by...then he asked for a copy...brownie points!!! Thanks Mike! Does this give anyone else any ideas? wink* wink*?

Good to hear people are recognizing rap, finally.

I listened to Kenji about 10 times yesterday, as it of course it's 64 years since PH, since yesterday.

The Japanese internment never gets mentioned. When I learned about WWII - no word about this.

Sure, I could've concluded that the US had put Japs in camps after PH, but I wasn't really thinkin about it, so with Kenji, I heard of this for the first time.

Exactly. The victors write the history. And they write what they think should be in history books, not necessarily the whole truth. Which is why Germans are hated, even today, while the Allied forces are saints, for doing the same things. Sure, the Allied forces were the good guys, but they sure were not innocent and just acting in defense. Nazis are hated, but some things are never mentioned, like Armenian genocides done by the Turks. We never hear of that, and because of that, I don't even remember when that happened...

And Italians, they fought with the Germans, and what's said about them? It was all Mussolini. Germans take all the blame, almost. ONE Italian guy gets blamed. Just one.

And then there's grief because Japs bombed PH, and not that much talked about the two nuclear bombs US dropped on Japanese cities...

The Japs made airstrikes on a military/navy w/e base, but two Jap cities get bombed their brains out...civilians and whatnot...

See, because of the fact that the books never really mention this kinda stuff, I go out & learn it on my own. I'm always checking out books about World War II, and a bunch of other 'unknown' wars that no one talks about. It's sad really.

Good bye, auf wiedersehen, adiós, sayonara

Yeah, America never really explains why other countries do things. Like, I was never told why Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japanese. Well, now i know; mind my history lesson. Basically, America blocked oil trade to Japan and that is obviously going to involve military actions; oil was more important then, than it is now, if you cant imagine that.

After the bombings, Franklin Roosevelt issued the Executive Order 9066, which was justified as a "military necessity" to protect against domestic espionage and sabotage." Basically the Japanese were forced into camps to prevent spying and shit. However, it was later documented that "our government had in its possession proof that not one Japanese American, citizen or not, had engaged in espionage, not one had committed any act of sabotage." (Michi Weglyn, 1976).

America knew that Japan was at a surrender. Japan offered a surrender but the U.S. did not accept it unless the surrender was unconditional. Troops were already withdrawing back to Japan. Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Bombed using massive nuclear weapons in a rush to end the war before the Russians victored over Japan. The most innocent lives killed by a bomb in history. The after effects of radiation and the effort and costs of rebuilding were immense and echoed for years.

Some reasons to listen to Kenji and reasons why Shinoda's favorite spot to play in is Tokyo.

If you start feeling offended when a ridicule begins

It's God who gives the gifts so you can take it up with Him
