Fort_Underground Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Well I just came back from the museum and saw the body worlds exibit. I gotta say, it's powerful. I think it's odd people voulnteer themselves after they die for this. I myself wouldn't want my corpse being put on display, but thats their choice. The exibit itself was good, as the bodys are a powerful display. Gunthar van Hagen is the guy who does this stuff. People once paid to see him do an autopsy. This guy does a process callled platosyium (spelling isn't correct) which preserves the bodys. I'll see if I can get any pictures posted, but to keep you occupied, I'll give you a brief descripition of what was on display The Skin Man - A man holding his own skin The Caller - A body that still has all the muscles and holding a phone The Trapezze Artist - A body that is on a trapezze, with a mirror under the body so you can see she is smiling The Bicycling Women - A women on her back that looks liek shes pedling, only shes been cut into 3 sepreate pieces The Rider - A man on a horse, while the horse appears to be rearing. The horses skull has been cut out, and the man has been cut into 3 times, and his legs twice. Also in his hands are his brain and the horses brain. Hope this is enough to give you an idea. We also got his book which shows all of the work he has done with dead bodies. Edit: None of these people have any skin. You can see all the muscles and nerves Quote I am the guy on the forums that your conservative parents warned you about Victory not Vengence

Clogz Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 I've heard its quite a disgusting exhibit at times, but overrall a really great and cool thing to see. I wish I had seen it while it was in Chicago, but of oucrse I'm to much of a loser to get over there. Jeezy Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Yeah it's fascinating.. the guy who does it comes from Germany but I never had the opportunity to visit one of his exhibitions. I saw it on TV a couple of times.. Quote
emrawkgrrl Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 I went to see this a few years ago when it was at London. Very interesting. Did it have the pregnant lady at the one you went to? That was the one I remember the most. Fort_Underground Posted April 15, 2006 Author Posted April 15, 2006 ^ No they didnt. But we bought the book and it has a picture in it. I labeled the ones is had. Probably the most impactful one is Skin Man and The Wizard. Where they have cut up the muscles so many times the blow in the wind if u walk by them. That, and hes holding is own tongue. Also The Rider is an impactful one. The other ones were just odd. http://www.hmns.org/exhibits/special_exhibits/bodyworlds.asp Heres the link to the site. You can see a pic of the horse and the rider. If someone wants to post that pic, go ahead. Quote I am the guy on the forums that your conservative parents warned you about Victory not Vengence
linkinpark-1 Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Wow, It sounds pretty disturbing to me. I have a phobia of dead people though, so that is probally why. butterflygirl Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Very Disturbing....sorry not my idea of "art", but whatever! Quote
Fort_Underground Posted April 16, 2006 Author Posted April 16, 2006 ^ Its not art. It's called plastination. Where they add plastic to the dead bodies. I was reading the book we got, and it when really in depth said how they cut the bodies when there frozen in like 3.5 cm pieces. But for the whole body ones, I heard they use a process called flaying. Heres the wiki paige with tour info and body info as well http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_Worlds http://sushihigh.com/bodyworld1.gif Heres a body from body worlds 2. And yes, this man is dead, and yes, hes holding a sword. Quote I am the guy on the forums that your conservative parents warned you about Victory not Vengence

o0SugaxNxSpice0o Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 I think I've actually heard of this, but haven't seen it in person. It's quite... weird. How can he handle a dead persons body like that eeky :S Yeah and it is odd of the volunteers lol. Being buried / cremated or donating my organs seems a bit more normal =] I have the weakest stomach ever when seeing "dead" people, but it is quite facinating :S I can't even stay in the "mummy" section of a museum for that long, it scares the hell out of me. Quote [broken External Image]:http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/9765/newsig2qs.gif It's Jen!!!
Fort_Underground Posted April 19, 2006 Author Posted April 19, 2006 ^ Then I don't think you will wanna see this exibit. You can clearly see peoples nerves, and smiling bodies would probalby freak you out. That, and a man holding his own brain and a horses brain in the other hand. But yeah, they guy that does this has no odd fealing being around dead bodies. I would find it hard to skin people, but other people have no problem with it.
