'I hate life.'

I'm tired of hearing these fucking words from people.

So your girlfriend broke up with you? One of your friends left you? Yea, it sucks. As mean and rude as this sounds, get over it. I know, I've been depressed as well, and it's tough to get through. But not ONCE did I say that 'life sucks'. Why? Because that's fucking selfish. How about we go to a country where people have REAL problems, like just about any country in Africa and most in South America? The people there are more grateful for the poor life they have than all of you people saying that your life 'sucks' are. And trust me, you have it alot better than they do.

Don't believe me? Well, are you at the risk of starving to death, or in the middle of an AIDS pandemic? Well, if you're reading this, then you're more than likely not. If you happen to live in North America, Europe, Australia, Japan, or any other civilized place, then you clearly have a much higher standard of living than people in African and South American nations

So what are you complaining about? Well, in some people's case, they have no friends. So the fuck what? Would you rather have no food? No shelter? No clothes? Ah, didn't think so. So quit your bitching and come out of your little self-absorbed world, because there are millions of people out there with far worse lives than you.

Yeah, that's all good said and you're right...

But, as you said...we live in a different world as african people... And, cuz we don't know what are they going through, we complain about our lives "just" cuz we don't have friends and that "insignificant" stuff...

That's all for now that I can say...cuz I'm not in a good state of thinkin right now...I'll go to sleep...

No, I'm saying people need to quit complaining about their problems and do something to fix them.

Ok, but what if it isnt so simple? How do you suggest i solve my problems because believe me im been trying to for about 5 years. tell me please im dying to know. :)

surley when ppl feel depressed or midly upset dont they deserve some sort of release. I mean i talk about thing here which even my closet friends dont know about. so basically i dont think its your place to tell ppl t stop 'complaining', if you dont like us 'complaining' why are you even viewing 'the dark room'.

Of course you need some sort of release. But don't say your life sucks when it clearly doesn't, especially when compared to MANY others. It's very self-centered.

thank god someone has said that!!!!

i'm sorry but its true. most of you are not old enough to know what depression is, yeah you might have problems but 9/10 of them are fixable.

there was a story on the news today about a mother who jumped off a bridge with her 12 year old son because he has autisim, she couldn't cope anymore and she didn't want to leave him behind for someone else to cope with, so she took his life aswell, that is depression!!!! when you take your own childs life because you can't face life anymore.

what misery said is true, ppl in 3rd world countries would kill for your lives even with the problems you have, they would love a warm bed and a family that loves them, food they can eat and clean water.

I'm glad you said that matt. Not a lot of people have to balls to.

It's true. Most of the people fling those stupid words around like a common saying. I even say it sometimes, but I never mean it, I'm usually being dramatice, or caught up in a bad moment. Moments later, I forget I even said it, or care that I did. I know I'm lucky to have the life that I do, and it pisses me off when I hear people complain about their life when they are far better off that a lot of people out there.

I agree with you Matt on this one.

I´m from South America, more specific,Argentina and despite our goverment makes a lot of propaganda for turists from abroad and whatsoever, there are many problems in here like people being killed unfairly, homeless ppl begging for money in the streets and as well poor ppl living in poorly conditions. As if this wasn´t enough,in downtown there are always these ppl that are always ccausing trouble bcuz they always have something to complain about and whatsoever.

I know that probably I´m a bit selfish by saying that sometimes I wished I´d have liked born in another country other than mine bcuz the ppl who live in USA,Australia,Canada etc are in a better economic postion than our country but to be honest I should be grateful for what I have and not complaining about what can´t I have bcuz there are ppl who are in worst conditions.

So guys and girls b4 saying that your life really sucks you should think carefully about what you are saying,I mean, life is not easy,it has its ups and downs but sooner or later we get over it.

I thought I´d point that out when I saw this thread

PS:Will I be back?

Now, I have problems that should leave me handicapped? I am lucky to be able to walk. You know what I do? I run from 30-50 miles a week. I have a disease that should qualify me for special ed classes. Have I once in my life said that my life sucks? No, because I know I am lucky, I am able to walk, I am able to talk, I am one fo the smartest people I phsycially know. Compared to some that say their life sucks, mine does. However, by no means does that small fact qualify me to be justified in saying my life sucks. I have seen people that have all the right to say their life sucks, and yet they dont. I have seen 6 year old kids working in a field, and you can be damn sure that they would love to live your life.

I totally agree with you mMatt. However, there are definitly people in non 3rd world countries whos life may truly suck, but I still get the point completely.

(and by the way, please dont give me your pity nor ask me fi this is true, because i dont need nor deserve it)

Okay, so look at it this way.

One of my friends has honestly gone through enough to what I would consider him to justifiably say his life sucks. His neice, who was only one and a half, died this past week. A television set fell on her and she stopped breathing. This kid spent every waking moment he could with that little girl. Other than when he was at school, which, sadly enough, is where he was at when this happened. What exactly would you suggest to "fix" that problem? The girl is *dead* There is no fixing that.

Imagine living for someone. The only reason you're still around is to make sure that someone has a good life. Why you've given up on your life has no bearing right now. You've poured your heart and soul into giving this person a good life. And then in the blink of an eye, all your hearts pride and joy vanished. Again, I ask you, how do you "fix" that?

Honestly, I'd like to hear a plausible explanation of what to do. Not some half hearted "forget about it" or "do something else to keep your mind off of it". You can't honestly believe that would actually work for a seventeen year old kid.

Now, I'm not trying to start an argument mind you, just a discussion. I've come to find that my views on a lot of subjects differ from that of the people I surround myself with.

And I'm sure you remember, oh, around this time last year. When Jackie and I broke up. It was devastating. Blah blah blah, I'm still here. People say stuff out of anger, and even out of depression. You can't always take people seriously when they say stuff like that. I'm almost certain I've said life sucks, and I truly believe it was true.

Now, what is somewhat important is that you have to take into account who you're hearing it from. I've only heard it from teenagers. Teenagers who's lives are only a fraction of most of the population of the world.

Your take on 'life' in that context is also important. Usually it's that particular moment in life that people are saying sucks. Because nobody, not one person can say that life as a whole sucks. Being born, that didn't suck, that was the best thing that could happen to any person. But it is possible for moments/glimpses of a person's life to actually suck. Which is what I'm pretty sure everybody who's ever said it actually meant.

You bring up some good points. But I can guarantee you that for the most part people who say those things cannot justify it. There are, however, exceptions, like you mentioned.

Being apart of different cultures changes everything. The things we consider horrible are different than people in a different country. Since people here aren't used to those kinda of things that people are experiencing in the third-world countries are kinds of things we aren't prepared/expecting to deal with. So since, in some cases, one of the worst things is not having any friends, or maybe being bullied, or an addiction, or parents getting divorced; people think that is horrible, and it makes thier life suck. Its not your place to tell people what makes them sad, mad, happy, or any other emotion to change the quality of thier life.

omg!!! get over yourself!!!

what pain you experiance is not even close to what ppl in thoses countries go through. women in those countries get gang raped by men infront of their kids, men get shot infront of their familys and they fear for their lives everyday, they have no food and they have to drink water wich is dirty and could kill them after walking hundreds of mils to get it.

maybe when you go over there your dad should leave you there for a couple of months and then maybe you would see how good your life is and you will wanna come back, then maybe just maybe you will stop and think that your very lucky compared to others in poor countries.

Okay, I'm gonna agree to disagree to a degree.

I believe most of what was initially said, but I think it has to be said that the group mentality that everyone who's depressed without a life-threatning reason is selfish I think is selfish actually. People as individuals have different thresholds of tolerance; not everyone can cope with the crap life throws at us all, some get depressed to the point of cutting themselves, some cry or vent their pain creatively, some take it to the extreme and comit homicide/suicide.

Personally I'd like to think that life gives us what it thinks we can deal with. Some people however will never see their way out of their slump, some wont look, whether or not it's out of selfishness, lack of self esteem, pride, stubbornness, education or just refuse to try for whatever. Saying they simply need to snap out of it or see it from another's perspective doesn't quite cut it either. Truth is when you're depressed the pain is usually so all-consuming regardless the reason that you can't or won't relate to anyone else. When you hurt it can feel like you suffer alone even though logically you know everyone else suffers just like you do.

I'm old enough to have some life experience and I do get angry sometimes when I hear about kids half my age talking about the fact they wanna kill themselves or whatever because they are down. The thing is having been through depression myself I have a better understanding to how it 'works'. Telling people to get over it isn't just ignorant it's self-perpetuating; it makes people who already feel like they can't cope feel worse because they can't.

On a chemical level depression isn't just a state of mind or circumstance - it can be linked to the Serotonin levels in the brain; the chemicals that balance out your mood to some extent and help you feel good. Are you telling me that people who have this imbalance are simply selfish?

There's as many causes for it as there is 'solutions' to the problems that cause it.

I simply won't accept this narrow-minded 'thou-shalt' mentality. It doesn't help anyone. Rather than vent try empathising with someone else's pain and see if you can help them through their problems rather than add to them. As if life isn't tough enough sometimes... Jesus.

Okay. You're entitled to your opinion. That's mine. Thanks for letting me share.

Depression is fine. It happens. It's how you deal with it that's the problem. If you keep saying your life sucks and have a negative mentality, then you aren't going to recover. Sometimes a solution to alot of things is just your mentality. Saying your life sucks is definately not going to help.

People can go ahead and be depressed, it's natural. But quit saying your life sucks, because THAT is selfish.

Like I said - how is one expected to see beyond their own pain when they feel that down that they feel the need to share it (for whever reason - maybe for attention, maybe to get real help).

Saying LIFE SUCKS isn't that big a deal. We all have days where we say it. Some people wake up to a new day, some wake up to the same old dramas.

So life sucks - trully the only people who deserve to say that (if at all) are the ones who don't have one/have little time left, and even then they should theoretically live for the day anyway.

I agree that changing the way you think would help but it keeps coming back to education and tools. How do you get a person with very low self esteem to start feeling better about themselves? Tell them they look good and to snap out of their crap? Think that will really work? How's this any different, really? Sometimes all it takes when people are feeling down is to be heard. Saying LIFE SUCKS might be their way of saying, I need help to get through (insert problem here).

I just think speaking up about why they feel they have it so bad isn't a real problem. Indeed the issue and as you would argue it the solution comes down to perception. I guess one man's pain is another man's pleasure...

Like I said, we'll agree to disagree. But just for the record, I don't have the patience of a saint to hear 100 people complain about why they want to die or whatever. I just think that they will either appreciate what they do have at some point and look for the good rather than get swept up by the bad and god forbid do something stupid.
