You can't compare our lives to those of people in 3rd world countries because the conflicts are in differents places. For most of us the conflict is internal, for most of them it is external as well as internal. I can't really explain it in words, it's just something I feel. I wish I could get the idea out clearer, sorry .

I get what you're saying. But merely saying that we have it better than them is comparing our lives. The key word is 'better' you can't get to better with out comparing one thing to another.

We mean Compare like "To consider or describe as similar, equal, or analogous; liken." You can't relate, put our lives on the same level as theirs. As for the homeless people that's a diffrent story. I'm talkin about us in general, of course their are people who for one reason or another cannot seem to have a job and live on the streets. Even their lives cannot be compared to ours. I mean it's like trying to compare a High School Football's training Camp to kindergarten sleep over.

I agree with Hyper, sure we may have it better than them financially & stuff like that, but they don't deal with emotional pain that some people do. & if they do, maybe it doesn't bother them. We have different problems. & I can't understand why expressing your emotions is selfish. Maybe some people aren't materialistic & care more about social relationships than anything else. People in third world countries might care more about clean water or what not. Everyone has different problems & most of them aren't as simple as "go fix it & stop complaining."

Regardless, saying we have it better than them is still comparing them. Even by that definition. "To consider" is the key phrase there. You have considered them equal by saying our lives are better. You have to try to set them as equals to say that one is better than the other. I'm sorry, but if you can't understand that you're a little too stubborn to be discussing this topic.

 

It is not like comparing a High School Football's TC to a Kindergarten sleep over. You're comparing quality of life here. Not working out vs little kids playing. It'd be more appropriate to be comparing a High School sleep over to a Kindergarten sleep over. They're both dealing with sleeping over. Whereas Highschooler's do different things than Kindergarteners.

Lol; I think that post was made out of anger. Matt's initial post wasn't out of anger, at least not the way I took it. Just frustration. Because it's very frustration when people come to you bitching and moaning about life, I know that for a fact, it happens to be daily. People don't die because they don't have friends. Well, I think in a case like that he draws exceptions. Obviously if your mother has like breast cancer you have a reason to be depressed. He's more or less saying that it's stupid for people to say that their life sucks and then back it up with reasons such as "My mom wont buy me an Ipod, I don't have a girlfriend, Im the only kid who doesn't own a cell phone" And what I think drives the point home even further is when kids who say these problems get told that what they are complaining about is stupid they make more excuses. To make it seem like their problems are deep and that their parents are knuckleheaded nimwits who wouldn't care if a rabie infected dog bit the nuts off them.
