Stenners Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Shit name for shit bands its simple concept, cant u see. Quote Delete my account, the is no reason why it should be against standard procediure, do it do it do it. Or LPF Sessions 3 leaks before it's done and Spoilers will be posted for every film release. Not to mention periodic troll invasions.
Jeezy Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 To split this genre into "Early Post-Grunge", "Second Wave Post-Grunge" and "Modern Post-Grunge" is so stupid. Labelling bands into different catagories because of the years when they released albumns or were popular or whatever...wtf...that's stupid labelling...I mean...Staind seem to be "Early Post-Grunge" and "Modern Post-Grunge", despite them releasing albumns consistently from 1999 to 2005. Seemed to skip that "Second Wave Post-Grunge"... some of the bands I like seem to be in this genre...pfft, screw that. I think in general it's stupid to put band in genres...I agree with you though Quote
Stenners Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 ^^ I have said it before, its easier to class radio stations, clubs and gigs by using genre terms, they are hardly gonna go out n explain the exact details of the music on a leaflet for a club 'its a night that plays that type of music that bands such as Kasabian, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, QOTSA & The Coral play' o yea of course they could just say 'Indie/Rock night with DJ whatever, drinks promotion' Genres also make it easier to sort n organise music. In that point you are right...but I still don't like it...because a lot of bands get labled wrong... Quote
Stenners Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 That way is true, music nowadays usualy has many felxibilities, u got rap acts with rock beats and indie acts with hip hop beats. And how the hell do u label an act such as I dunno Beck? Alt Rock/Hip Hop/Electonica/Accoustic/Country/Indie, tis all crazy lol but most acts do have a primary genre and thats the one they get labled in although it doesnt in some cases represent the band as a whole. Allmusic has got quite a good labeling system which quite literally lables them with every genre possibly linked to their muisc (e.g. Modest Mouse is sub generly labled Emo) along with moods shown expressed in their music. Rusu_luvs_LP_4ever Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 The only problems I have with labelling is (1) when it comes down to being really specific, like, for example, with "Early Post-Grunge", "Second Wave Post-Grunge" and "Modern Post-Grunge"....absolutely pointless.....just call it "Post-Grunge" or whatever....(2) when people use labels to stereotype and jump to conclusions...like someone not admitting they like an artist, just because they belong to a certan genre...or just have an inbuilt belief that that genre sucks and therefore don't like any artists that fit into that catagory.... Toxic1 Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Genres are definitely worthwhile and needed. Would it have been better to name all post-grunge eras "shit music"? It probably would have been more accurate. Quote
