Hahninator Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I was listening to my favorite radio station...Project 961 here in Atlanta right before 6 and they said coming up at 6 they were playing a new Metallica instrumental they just got. They got it today in the mail and I this is the first time they've played it. It's an instrumental for an All-Star Tribute they did. I won't ruin it for you, so check it out yourself. I'm not the biggest Metallica fan but I think it's actually pretty fucking sweet. I ripped it from the radio and got Chris (the DJ) talking before and after about it, so you'll know exactly what's going on. Check it out and post feedback here. http://hahninator.sotrix.net/mark/metallica_new_instrumental_project_961_feb13_2007.mp3 Quote
Chris Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Yep, thats me who's talking lol. Thats a cool song. The beginning is awesome but after the 3 minutes it gets too much improvised Quote
Hahninator Posted February 14, 2007 Author Posted February 14, 2007 lol. I love the intro The first minute or so is pretty sweet. One of the best Metallica intros I've heard after Fade to Black. Quote
Toxic1 Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 This isn't really new. This cover was performed on a double live album, S & M, with a string symphony. And it was much better on that from what I remember. It's definitely a cover of a composed piece, so this particular version without the backing symphony seems undercooked and wanky sounding. Kinda like a 15 year old kick at guitar center trying to showoff the latest riffs he learned from a song. Quote
GraDoN Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 i dont like this kinda music... but the intro is awesome Quote http://www.sucksbbs.net/data/MetaMirrorCache/095443c5f5914cdd05b1d389456c201e.jpg http://www.sucksbbs.net/data/MetaMirrorCache/8df3638f80a4f010e06ef2c959f426e8.gif http://www.sucksbbs.net/data/MetaMirrorCache/fe80ab99471398f0ef121d8f90c31038.jpg
Peterdea Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 fairly good intro, as it gets into the song i like it more and more. Quote Its good to be back.

Chris Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 yeah, this is Ecstacy of gold lol I can't believe the guy on the radio said "enjoy new metallica" Actually, it IS new Metallica. Theyve recorded it, and they havent played it on S&M. The orchestra played it. Quote
Friðbjörn Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 it's not new material, it isn't even metallica material, and they played it along with the orchestra on s&m Quote [broken External Image]:http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/2784/lpfas08mostintelligentym8.jpg
Chris Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 it's not new material, it isn't even metallica material, and they played it along with the orchestra on s&m Well.. im listening to it right now and im not hearing a James, a Lars nor a Kirk. The orchestra played it. You can hear and see them coming on the stage at about 2:05. Quote
Friðbjörn Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 and don't they play on the rest of the track? Quote [broken External Image]:http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/2784/lpfas08mostintelligentym8.jpg
Chris Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 and don't they play on the rest of the track? Nnnope. They play 'The Call of Ktulu' after that. Quote

Toxic1 Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 They've been playing this song cover for a long long time as an opener to their gigs. This is not new stuff........ Quote
Insomniac Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Kinda like a 15 year old kick at guitar center trying to showoff the latest riffs he learned from a song. I had the same impression, the intro is pretty cool, and then it goes into, as you mention, a 15 year old kid at guitar center trying to showoff the latest riffs he learned from a song. Overall its pretty cool for a listen or so, but then you realize its nothing special. Quote Future "IDIOT BOX" parolee.
Chris Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 They've been playing this song cover for a long long time as an opener to their gigs. This is not new stuff........ It is new stuff. The intro they play during their gigs is a tape thats playing. Just watch the intro on youtube during Rock am Ring 2003. Quote

Ok......they have definitely played this from a tape of the actual orchestrated piece as an inro, but it seems like I've heard them actually cover it on a gig I had on mp3 from the past. Anyhow........I don't really care for their full band recording of it. Quote
