Hahninator Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 9. Valentine's Day - This is the track on the album I totally dislike. I think the first 2 minutes are alright...but when they get to the Valentine's Day part....it kinda ruins the whole song. Hopefully they don't take this as a single...because if they do you'll have to listen to it every Valentine's Day. It's still better than most of the songs you'll get from bands like MCR or GC. 2.5/10 What the......fuck? This is my favorite song. The song structure is brilliant. It goes from being so soft to the harder part, wow. It's great. "I never knew what it was like...to be alone....ON A VALENTINES DAY, ON A VALENTINES DAAYYYYY" \m/ Quote

"I never knew what it was like...to be alone....ON A VALENTINES DAY, ON A VALENTINES DAAYYYYY" \m/ you know..as i said...I like the first 2 minutes...the lyrics are pretty strong there...but then it turns too poppy...it's just my oppinion...I haven't said that it sucks or anything like that...it kinda grew on me already btw...i just read your MTM review on your sotrix site...and it's great Quote

Toxic1 Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 So whats your opinion on it? I've always kindve wond3ered your opinion on LInkin Park. I dont know, it just personally appeals to me. LP isnt the best thing in the world like some may proclaim, but they are really good with dynamics and their electronic flourishes are usually pretty good. As for V-day, I'm not too keen on the lyrics. Quote

'Let It Die' I caught onto quite late after some loose recconmendations (thanks to Last.fm) and is a real marvel of a work & it gave her a following, such a following in fact that she was quickly snapped up 'Cherry Tree' a sub label of Interscope. This is her major label debut, a daunting task for once Indie icons as their entire credibility goes straight on the line before they even write the record. I'm glad to say I still feel rather indifferent on this artist and dont have such jugements to obscure this review. I'm also proud to announce this album doesnt dissapoint it is a beautiful record full of upbeat pop rock songs such as 'I Feed It All' 'Sea Lion Woman' & 'Past In Present' but also some lovely melodic gems such as the beautiful 'The Water' and the well crafted 'The Limit To Your Love'. The really is something for everyone here & in many cases people will enjoy the majority of the record, its well thought out and lyrically is quite touching it's the type of album u will put on when ur feeling low or feel like a lil beauty. Sure its not all brilliant the is filler to be had here and sometimes it does sound unfourtanatly stale 'The Park' & 'Honey Honey' spill into mind here. People looking for a particually heart felt album which is emotional on many levels and makes u feel good this is pretty much it, well produced and constructed and going from pop rock to melodic beuties and even a touch of folky indie presence in some occasions this album is sure to please and not dissapoint, this is a hot release which warrents many listens and probably will swiftly become one of my faviroute albums of the year. Stand Outs: So Sorry, My Moon, My Man, The Water, One Two Three Four, The Limit To Your Love 8.5/10 Quote Delete my account, the is no reason why it should be against standard procediure, do it do it do it. Friðbjörn Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 I'm guessing this isn't the album you downloaded Still, but well this might make you download this one. album: Gold artist: In extremo genre: folk This band apparently qualifies as folk metal, but not on this debut album of theirs. Aside from one track with a metalish section this album focuses on folk music, with heavy use of bagpipes and eastern european (I guess you call them wind instruments? at least ones you play with your mouth) wind instruments, as well as rarely used ways of percussion, giving this a real folk music feel. At times I felt like I was listening to a Hungarian Gypsy band, lol. And in that sense In extremo does very well. They're convincing as a national folk band. I know nothing about the real folk music of eastern european countries, so I can't take an example in saying the Bulgarian national folk festival would welcome them as their own, but an international folk music fest would. They're not playing folk music in the real sense, but they're playing other people's folk music. The songs are usually pretty short and to the point, except for the first track, which is about 8 minutes, and is from the start til pretty late in it, a bagpipe solo. Using these unorthodox instruments, these eastern folk style melodies, and singing in various different seemingly uncommon languages makes for a brave move. And maybe cause it's stuff I'd never otherwise hear, it really gets me thinking, and I like that. As far as the music, the melodies, goes, the band isn't inventing the wheel, but they've put their package in a great interesting wrapper, and the ingredient doesn't suck either. And I do recommend this album, it's a good listen. Good break from the mundane routine of pop music that's played on modern radio. Not quite groundbreaking stuff I think, but the band does take a step towards pioneering. rating: 7,7/10 next reviews: The showdown - Temptation come my way 65daysofstatic - The fall of math so Matt, when's the next playlist? Stllmn8j Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 I was gonna say something about their first album being mostly acoustic lol,but the one I have is great Quote

Friðbjörn Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 ahh thanks and yeah, that's definately the sound of it. lot of flutes and what I think are drums you pound with your bare hands or something similar to that not sure if I'll review them, but I'll definately check out the other two I can get by In extremo Quote [broken External Image]:http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/2784/lpfas08mostintelligentym8.jpg

Look out its a californian based band! Ahhhhh duck n cover surley this stuff is gonna be cheesier then grandmamas feet! Well you would be wrong to think this indeedy, this quatet play on delisciously understated music which usualy soley consists of a guitar, piano, drums and tambourine occasionly this is further enhanced by the inclusion of equally understated strings. When it's put together you get a deliciously soft sound which fits so well together. Becky Stark the lead vocalist is right on the money on this album offering a perfect amount of drama to each soung as using those almost classicaly trained vocals to good use without got over the top (amy lee please take notes, for the love of god PLEASSE) they go down a treat and never seem lost with the music. Lyrically its pretty nice to like the music they take the less is more approach they coil and uncoil around each verse they are repetetive and add to the general hypnotic nature of the album. One of the nicest debuts I have had the pleasure to listen to this year it's a less is more album, a beautifully crafted album with minimal production it sounds organic but clean..... it's a treat to the ears, the soul and indeed the mind. Stand out moments: Oh No, Garden Rose, I'll Never Lie Again, Open Your Heart, Like An Arrow, Here Comes One Rating: 9/10 Quote Delete my account, the is no reason why it should be against standard procediure, do it do it do it. Stenners Posted May 7, 2007 Author Posted May 7, 2007 http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/51DPFUnJokL._AA240_.jpg Artist: The Maccabees Album: Colour It In Genre: Indie Rock First Impression: Really didn't do anything for me, this was clearly an album that had to tickle my ear drums a little to reveal its charm. The Maccabees are the latest of a string of young artists to pop out of Brighton recently surrounded by a certain level of hype especially amongst the locals where there shows sell out quickly, their first few singles such as 'X-Ray' which offer extremely Spiky guitar play offers an extremly Angular sound, hell they sound like they came straight back from the relms of the late 1970's. In fact they are the first band since the 'Sex Pistols' to be threatend with a performance ban.... after one of their gigs turned into a mini riot. When you first hear the name 'The Maccabees' you will instantly think generic british indie guitar band with very little offer creativley..... to think that about this band you will be wrong, sure they do share some of the same musical ethics as the majority of the NME crowd but within this they often break free and turn it into something way more interesting.... tracks such as 'X-Ray' & the significantly weaker of the singles 'About Your Dress' are extremely catchy yet interesting pop songs, then you have the unexpected moments... the genral folky start within 'Good Old Bill' and then u have 'Toothpaste Kisses' an unexpected singer song writer feel to it & O.A.V.I.P is a soft tribute to one of the band members aging grandmother... it's not all happy praises though sometimes the album does sound a little bit tedius with songs such as 'All In Your Rows' & 'Happy Faces' leaving little impact. This band is far more then just another british guitar band, they have potential and offer something and given time this young band could end up making something special but for now at least they are extremely good fun & a worthy addition to the british music scene which needs a lil vibrance, give it time though when I first heard it I barley found anything to like. Stand Outs: Good Old Bill, X-Ray, O.A.V.I.P, Precious Time, Lego 7.5/10 Quote Delete my account, the is no reason why it should be against standard procediure, do it do it do it.
