Friðbjörn Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 it sure is alright I did actually manage to get all the songs and zip them 92 mins 37 secs, 100 mb but I'm way too tired to wait for it to upload, so good night and you'll have it early tomorrow. Toxic1 Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 My faviroutes so far of this decades in a neat lil 15 track goody of a playlist that varies in moods, i tried to make the playlist go down smoothly n consistently. I think i achieved this =) 01 - TV On The Radio - Wolf Like Me 02 - Battles - Atlas 03 - Of Montreal - Shes A Rejector 04 - Peter, Bjorn & John - Young Folks 05 - The Shins - Mines Not A High Horse 06 - Oh NO! Oh My! - Skip The Foreplay 07 - Guillemots - Trains To Brazil 08 - The Knife - Silent Shout 09 - Modest Mouse - Tiny Cities Made Of Ashes 10 - Broken Social Scene - Guilty Cubicles 11 - Circultary System - Yesterdays World 12 - Red House Painters - Between Days 13 - Sonic Youth - Disconnection Notice 14 - mclusky - Without MSG I'm Nothing 15 - The Arcade Fire - Rebellion (lies) http://www.sendspace.com/file/43d9f2 Number of listens so far: 3 My ratings of Stenners playlist by tracks: 01 - TV On The Radio - Wolf Like Me 8.5/10 02 - Battles - Atlas 9/10 03 - Of Montreal - Shes A Rejector 7/10 04 - Peter, Bjorn & John - Young Folks 8.5/10 05 - The Shins - Mines Not A High Horse 7/10 06 - Oh NO! Oh My! - Skip The Foreplay 8/10 07 - Guillemots - Trains To Brazil 9/10 08 - The Knife - Silent Shout 8/10 09 - Modest Mouse - Tiny Cities Made Of Ashes 9.5/10 10 - Broken Social Scene - Guilty Cubicles 5/10 11 - Circultary System - Yesterdays World 9/10 12 - Red House Painters - Between Days 7.5/10 13 - Sonic Youth - Disconnection Notice 9/10 14 - mclusky - Without MSG I'm Nothing 6/10 15 - The Arcade Fire - Rebellion (lies) 7/10 Songs I've never heard before: 04 - Peter, Bjorn & John - Young Folks 06 - Oh NO! Oh My! - Skip The Foreplay 11 - Circultary System - Yesterdays World 12 - Red House Painters - Between Days 14 - mclusky - Without MSG I'm Nothing If you like P, B, & J's "Young Folks", you may like Yo La Tengo's more laid back tunes. Very nice chill song that sounds heavily influenced by YLT. Positives: Lots of fun songs. Most songs shouldn't alienate listeners on first listen. Those looking for an upper in their day audio wise, this would be the new mix for you. Cons, Suggestions, and Observations: A couple of patchy choices that don't do much for the progression of the mix. See BSC and Mclusky. Maybe too many songs included with the feel of a "Best of 00's Indie Dance Rock Mix". I don't think there is much of a difference in mastering levels between now and 2000, but SY's "Disconnection Notice" sounds a little too low in the mix. And when Mclusky comes in, it's just.............BAM! The ending of the mix could be much stronger and defining in my opinion. I also thought that there were some artist choices with stronger cuts to choose from. Then again, there are some stronger tracks from some of the artists I chose from too. So it's all about the mood(s), time lengths, & some other factors. In the end though, this is Stenners mix and so I'll let him break it down for us if he wants. ------------ Calculated rating: 7.86666666666666666666 Calculated rating of just the five songs I've never heard before: 7.8 Overall mix grade: 8/10 Highly Recommended The rating could slightly change with more listens. There were five songs that I've never heard before as pointed out earlier. Stens: I know you got more mixes up your sleeves, plenty more songs to choose from, and that you will most likely improve upon this already great mix. This is a very nice sunny mixture of tunes that can brighten up many a person's IPOD listening experience. Or for me, car listening and home stereo listening experience. Thanks again! Quote
Toxic1 Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 It would be impossible for me to come up with a best of 00s because of all the artists and songs I could easily swap in and out without batting an eye. So I just came up with a good compilation and if we did this again, I could easily put another one up. I kinda just wanted to get a good flow of songs here without it getting too cluttered up with ultra long tunes. 01 Bark Psychosis - From What Is Said To When It's Read (5:26) 02 British Sea Power - Apologies To Insect Life (2:46) 03 Grizzly Bear - Plans (4:16) 04 Radiohead - The National Anthem (5:51) 05 M83 - On A White Lake Near A Green Mountain (4:43) 06 Junior Boys - First Time (5:26) 07 The Notwist - Solitaire (3:29) 08 My Morning Jacket - One Big Holiday (5:21) 09 Wilco - At Least That's What You Said (5:29) 10 The National - About Today (4:10) 11 Iron & Wine - Fever Dream (4:16) 12 Andrew Bird (Mr. 1 Man Band) - Weather Systems (6:31) 13 Do Make Say Think - Hooray! Hooray! Hooray! (6:57) 14 Broken Social Scene - Shampoo Suicide (4:05) 15 Mogwai - Stop Coming To My House (4:53) --------------- Here it is: http://www.sendspace.com/file/t2wxn3 My "Best of 00s Compilation Mix" that will change your life (The Shins are not included on this one, haha) = 109.7 MB 15 tracks, 73 minutes and 46 seconds of AUDIO BLISS This is the kind of stuff you look up into space and think deep thoughts about anything and everything my friends. Whether you partake in extra activities, *cough* that's purely up to you. Be extra kind to your head though and use really good headphones for the best audio experience possible. [:-} My rating = 9.9/10 HYPE!!! Nothing is perfect, but it's damn close. Woah, I can see God from where I'm at. Later......... Quote
Stenners Posted June 10, 2007 Author Posted June 10, 2007 AMAZING! lol I will do a similar do dar for ur playlist when i listen to it a couple more times. Also if u liked the Oh No! Oh My! track u should deffinatly check out their self titled debut, its an interesting blend of electronic quirks n noises along with accoustic. They remind me slightly of The Shins, it's a fabbo record! I think the main reasson my mixies usualy include indie disco anthems such as 'Young Folks or Wolf Like Me' is because they always remind me of awesome nights haha! A lil personal side note there lol Yah im sure i could put out many more playlists, was in confliction with myself the whole time when compiling this list, anyone else have any other ideas for a good playlist? Shall we do another decade? Shall we do a 2nd one for the 00's? Quote Delete my account, the is no reason why it should be against standard procediure, do it do it do it. Or LPF Sessions 3 leaks before it's done and Spoilers will be posted for every film release. Not to mention periodic troll invasions.
Friðbjörn Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 I can't do another from the 00s, I don't know about enough of music that I like that much from the period...unless you want the playlist to be from like 3-5 artists lol so my first and last one of that will be up in a little while Quote [broken External Image]:http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/2784/lpfas08mostintelligentym8.jpg
crazy robster Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Matty once again you did a great job on this playlist, very careful selection of songs, great variety. Pretty much a song for everyone <3 Personal favourites: Wolf Like Me, Young Folks, Trains To Brazil, Tiny Cities Made Of Ashes, Yesterdays World and Disconnection Notice. Sonic Youth and Modest Mouse are in my faves most of the time anyway ^^ Oh and just one little remark; Yesterday's World is sooo similar in style to some of the Beatles' post 1967 songs... could very well be in the White Album or maybe Abbey Road for example. That's positive of course I always appreciate bands that are influenced but legends like the Beatles! Good one Matty you get an 8/10 from me Quote [broken External Image]:http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g189/rbffe/rob_opens-eyes.gif My sis about Rob: "You'll be celebrating your golden infatuation with him one day.."
Friðbjörn Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 it's finally up, couldn't get it done before band practise so here it is now 1. Glasgow Mega-Snake - Mogwai (3:35) 2. The one stop evil shop - Coral (NOT "The" Coral, it's a different band) (8:50) 3. Hamingjulagið - Miri (3:25) 4. Auto-rock - Mogwai (4:19) 5. In the music - The Roots (4:08) 6. Tale of the runaways - Maylene and the sons of disaster (4:53) 7. Lateralus - Tool (9:24) 8. Fjöll i austri fagurblá - Steindór Andersen & Sigur Rós (6:00) 9. Hunted by a freak - Mogwai (4:18) 10. Arpeggiator - Ensimi (4:44) 11. Beautiful day - U2 (4:06) 12. Bium bium bambaló - Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson & Sigur rós (6:53) 13. The noose - A perfect circle (4:52) 14. Brekkan - Miri (7:48) 15. Popplagið (live) - Sigur rós (15:22) link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HGNMR2V8 this mix has no flow actually, I don't think they're in any order in the rar file. only thing I recommend is at least listen last to the track I labeled here as number 15. and there's no theme either...it's just a bunch of tracks I like (although it is by a large part post-rock) Quote [broken External Image]:http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/2784/lpfas08mostintelligentym8.jpg
Toxic1 Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Well Fri, I got your playlist in now. Will discuss later after some listens. I hope that you discuss my playlist as well. You too Crazy Lobster. No playing favourites here! Quote
crazy robster Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Hahahaha sorry Mr Toxic but give me some time to download everything will ya? I WAS going to post comments to everyone's playlists anyway ^_^ I will post comments soon I promise! And don't call me Lobster I hate lobsters...lol Quote [broken External Image]:http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g189/rbffe/rob_opens-eyes.gif My sis about Rob: "You'll be celebrating your golden infatuation with him one day.."
crazy robster Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Ok so, after many hours of listening I have my final verdict. I repeat, I am no expert, I know I may sound a bit ignorant at times but I'm just stating my opinion ok? So, let's start with Mr Toxic. Like I said last time I commented on your collective playlist, I really enjoyed your contributions and I recognise that you DO have a lot to offer to someone who wants to discover something more musically. Listening to this playlist my opinion hasn't changed, these songs definitely made me feel weird on first listen but they had that certain charm of those original, atmosheric sounds you don't usually hear if you turn on your radio for example. Perhaps one thing I would have liked would be a little bit more variety, maybe a few more fun songs for example... Songs I consider standouts in this playlist are: From What Is Said To When It's Read, On A White Lake Near A Green Mountain, First Time, About Today, Shampoo Suicide and Stop Coming To My House. My rating 7.5/10 for the reason I mentioned earlier. Fribs: I have to say I was actually surprised! Surprised in the sense that I thought you were into heavier stuff. There are a lot of peaceful tracks in this playlist, which is not necessarily bad, just thought I'd mention it was all. It was actually a pleasant surprise! Not a fan of the U2 and the Mogwai tracks but apart from that, you selections gave me that feel I got when preparing your latest cd cover! I'm actually glad you gave me the chance to listen to Sigur Ros stuff - those were the tracks that impressed me most! A whole new experience for me! Other tracks I liked were the Noose, Tale of The Runaways and the Coral track. I give you 6.5  Quote [broken External Image]:http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g189/rbffe/rob_opens-eyes.gif My sis about Rob: "You'll be celebrating your golden infatuation with him one day.."

My rating 7.5/10 for the reason I mentioned earlier. Thanks for your comments and having the balls to go outside your comfort zone musically. What I would consider fun or amusing songs would be: Apologies To Insect Life Plans (kinda creepy, but definitely fun and catchy) The National Anthem Solitaire One Big Holiday At Least That's What You Said (The second half of the song with the heart ripping guitar solo) Hooray! Hooray! Hooray! (All the amazing different sounds and arrangements = Unbelievable) That's pretty much half the album actually despite the fact I ultimately aimed for a deeper mix. What's funny is that your list of standout tracks didn't include one song from the ones listed above. Doesn't make much sense now........eh? I would also like to take a stab at your other comment on variety. I would probably think Fri and Stens would agree that my playlist probably had the most variety out of all three playlist with this go round of mixes. Variety was an intention along with having it broken down into a very smooth and sequential order. It's a flow that should prep the listener for eventual changes in song structure and sounds. As you can see, the groups of tracks below get smaller as the mix progresses in order to keep the listener familiar, but purposely still on their toes. Tracks 1-4 = Very atmospheric and chaotic, but also very fun and catchy. Which leads to tracks 5-7. The more ambient/spacey/electronic indie rock stuff. Onto tracks 7 & 8. Epic indie rock songs with killer guitar and lots of emotion. Great stuff to jam to. 9 & 10 would be the cool down and reflective acoustic gems. Track 11 is a league in its own. Weather Systems is a blissful journey in the clouds with a classical/ambient sound. Tracks 12-14 are a trio that is supposed to end the album in a huge bang of blissful noise. Hooray! is one of the most amazing songs ever, but then again all 15 are amazing songs from critically acclaimed albums and artists. Timeless music that may take time to unfold it's depth and beauty to the uninitiated ear. Quote
GraDoN Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 so i downloaded matt's playlist and boy i hate it, sorry looks like this aint my kind of music. Wolf like me is the only song i love. added it to my playlist hehe Quote http://www.sucksbbs.net/data/MetaMirrorCache/095443c5f5914cdd05b1d389456c201e.jpg http://www.sucksbbs.net/data/MetaMirrorCache/8df3638f80a4f010e06ef2c959f426e8.gif http://www.sucksbbs.net/data/MetaMirrorCache/fe80ab99471398f0ef121d8f90c31038.jpg
crazy robster Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 One thing's for sure Mr Toxic. Good music takes time to finally sink in but once it does (admittedly after many listens) you come to realise that what you used to think was "good" is actually mediocre and too simple. The only catch is that it takes conscious work and many listens with a really open ear AND mind to be able to do this. That's why most people don't really give it another chance and give up. I know that after 100 listens I'll still find new things to appreciate. But an ear like mine sure needs time. I'm getting there! And thank you all guys for giving us the opportunity to gradually become familiar with something new. Black_Angel Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 Well I've downloaded Matt's playlist up to now and I'm pretty impressed. I'll put my comments on here too despite me giving Matt a commentary on msn lol. Okay I'll do this track by track. The ones in bold are the ones i particularly liked! Wolf Like Me - This is great, a really good way to start the playlist. Atlas - Abit weird. lol. The vocals are annoying. She's A Rejector - After listening to Matt go on about Of Montreal on msn I had high hopes for this song! And I wasn't dissappointed, it's brilliant, really fun and catchy and danceable (is that a word? lol) Young Folks - OMG THE WHISTLING SONG!! haha. Yeah I'm not a big fan of this one, never have been, most likely never will be. It wouldn't be so bad without the whistling! Mine's Not A High Horse - I'd heard some stuff from The Shins before and wasn't particularly impressed, but after listening to this one a couple of times i can see where the type has come from! It's just a good song. Skip The Foreplay - Love the band name. Don't love the song greatly. It just seems to plod along and not really do much :| Trains To Brazil - One of the few tracks I'd heard before, it's so happy, just a simple fun song really. I'm a fan of simple fun songs, they match my simple fun mind. haha. Silent Shout - The Knife scare me. The vocals are too weird. Tiny Cities Made Of Ashes - Hmm Modest Mouse. Some of their other songs are pretty good but I don't like this one much. As Matt predicted, I don't like the chorus. It's too shouty! Haha I'm like an old woman... "that's not music, that's just noise!" Guilty Cubicles - This is good as a little interlude. Like a lullaby, it's very nice! Yesterday's World - I agree with Jojo, it's very retro! And yeah a rather good song. I can't think of reasons lol. Between Days - I looked at the length of this song and just though, oh dear god no, I can't listen to that, it'll probably be some wierd art rock thing that I'm too simple minded to enjoy, but I was proved wrong! The beginning guitar bit is good and I like the vocals. Though it did start to sound a bit samey about halfway through, then guitar solo bit came in and made it good again lol. Disconnection Notice - Never been a fan of Sonic Youth and I'm not starting now. And yes, I'm ageist -_- lol. Without Msg I'm Nothing - Yay a short song! xD And a very good one at that, fast paced, fun and just generally awesome. This is a song that I'd typically like, my sorta genre innit. Rebellion (Lies) - I'm not too keen on The Arcade Fire, I find the vocals abit whiney and annoying. I don't like this song either =] So yes a pretty good playlist I say! I'll definitely be checking Of Montreal out some more, thanks for the recommendations Matt! Shall I rate it? Okay, 7/10 =] It's good, but not that good. haha. I think it's just my slightly ignorant music taste not appreciating some of it though. I promise to do the other playlists either later today or tomorrow! :] Quote i still love you, girl from mars.
Toxic1 Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 Hey so I listended to your playlist Fri. I'm not gonna go in depth on the mix because you said there is no theme or flow and that it's mainly post rock. I've heard all the Sigur Ros and Mogwai tracks before. They're good songs. The last Sigur Ros track is too low in sound quality. I think the album cut would have been a better choice. So yeah, that was a big detractor along with the pops from the Tool song. The Roots stick out like a sore thumb in a mix like this too. As for songs I didn't like............ Modern U2 I can't stand (I seriously dislike Bono). The only other song I truly didn't care for is Tale of the Runaways. It feels like a poor mans Bon Jovi/western show theme song that really grated on me. Other than that, good tuneage. If you can, get a bigger hard drive so you can build a good sized collection. Mixes are easier to throw together when you have way too many albums and artists to choose from. Thanks Fri! Looking forward to more of your contributions. By the way, if you are looking for stuff that you think I might have that Jeezy can't get...........just ask me. Quote

A bad rip of the song maybe? Doesn't matter though to me because I got the album buried somewhere. Quote

Friðbjörn Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 alright finally iTunes stopped being a bitch, I'm listening to the Andrew Bird track right now nice transition there into the 2nd half and the whistling really sounds like a bird, pardon the pun. but yeah I've assembled a list of the next playlist tracks: song band length genre clementine - hraun! (4:06) I guess some kind of acoustic pop meets folk or something? not sure near death experience - shogun (4:25) some kind of metal hver er klámur? - retro stefsson (2:21) this one's just a weird song. it's icelandic, so I can't quite explain the humour, which I guess means it loses some edge...but yeah blame it on gray - reykjavik! (3:06) rock do you still like scarecrows? - seabear (3:37) describes himself as lofi/indie/experimental. you judge. sýnþin - tony the pony (3:00) indie rock? lost - feedback (3:49) rock the left hand of god - nevolution (4:57) their myspace definitions are Metal/rock/metal blikk - gamma gazzette (the file probably says Cynics) (3:40) myspace definitions are indie/pop punk/jazz blákalt andartak - perla (5:02) they describe themselves as progressive pop (they're rock influenced) lover girl - hjaltalin (5:10) indie/pop/shoegaze dyragátt - jazzsveitin dúi (8:15) jazz Quote [broken External Image]:http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/2784/lpfas08mostintelligentym8.jpg
Jeezy Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Honestly it's kinda hard for me to put up a playlist for the best 15 tracks of the last 7 years...there's just so much to choose from... Quote
