Jeezy Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/41yVLK0Bc%2BL._AA240_.jpg Artist: TI Album: T.I. vs. T.I.P. Label: Grand Hustle/Atlantic Genre: Urban/Trap/Hip Hop 16 months after the release of "King" T.I. is back with his album T.I. vs T.I.P. This album follows the concept of T.I. strugglin with his alter ego T.I.P. It's splitted into 3 parts. The first part is the more gangster part with T.I.P. after an interlude the 2nd part follows with slower and more mature T.I. tracks. Then finally after the last interlude you get the best of both ego's on 3 tracks that close the album. Collaborations on the album include: Jay-Z(who delivers his best 16 bars since he did the Diamonds remix for Kanye), Eminem, Wyclef Jean and Nelly. In the end there's the question: Who's the better character...T.I. or T.I.P. There's not really an answer to that because both of them deliver good music. But the best moments are when he combines his both characters into one big artist. With this album he has good chances to have the best Hip Hop album of the year...like he already had last year with "King"....Grammy or not...lol Highlights on the album are: "Big Things Poppin' " "You Know What it Is" Jay-Zs 16 bars on "Watch What You Say To Me" "Help Is Coming" "My Swag" "Touchdown" and "My Type" Rating: 9/10 Quote

Friðbjörn Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 album: End of Silence artist: Red genre: christian rock, hard rock, numetal I can't honestly say I think this album is original, at all. It's full of clichés from all directions. Maybe that's the thing, it's clichéd for sure, but it's from different directions. The singer sings like a stereotypical mainstream modern rock singer, with the occasional scream. There's heavy parts, then there are soft verses, there are breakdown parts which either lead to the chorus accompanied with an acoustic guitar and no drums, or palm muted buildup parts which lead to a scream bridge or something like that. The overall setup is very remniscant of Evanescence, especially the track Breathe into me, and the sound that Linkin Park abandoned. The difference is though that the production is more stripped down as opposed to LP's overproduced Meteora. There are less typical things though. The beautiful stringladden final track, Already over pt. 2 is among the best "pt. 2" songs I've heard. Not that that's especially a good thing, but the track is good. But I dunno. This band has some appeal to me. The lyrics are rather typical I must say, but the band must hit the right melodies cause a lot of the time I wanted to sing a long, which honestly isn't all that common. However if you're a demanding fan, this is just another modern rock album you won't like. The same old power chords over and over again for example, and lyrics like "I don't wanna be afraid". Also this is a very Christian motivated album. If you're not Christian, or don't like Christian rock, you won't particularly like this one, unless you don't speak English. The band is admittedly under a Linkin Park influence, and in my opinion from Evanescence too, but aside from the touches of those influences this album isn't so much numetal as it is hard or alternative rock. Fortunately Red doesn't focus on distorted riffs and scream vocals on all their songs. The final track as I mentioned, as well as the piano driven "Pieces" are quite the opposite of the heavy screaming stuff bands like Linkin Park and Korn have mostly stuck to. Pieces is a 6 minute track on the middle of the album, and ends in a string part. Not something you see on a regular numetal album. So this album's got this variation. Numetal-ish stuff, like Wasting time, and then tracks like Pieces. So, this album is not the first one I'd pick from a music store shelf, but it's far from last. Rating: 6,0/10 Quote [broken External Image]:http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/2784/lpfas08mostintelligentym8.jpg
Friðbjörn Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 album: Orchid artist: Opeth genre: progressive death metal, death metal, progressive rock, as well as other influences Judging by this album, Opeth is quite an odd band. This is their first album, from 1995, and the only one I've heard so far, so I actually can't judge much about that yet, but yeah, this isn't any regular stuff, and Opeth doesn't deliver stuff that you'd expect. As in, after one section of this here, in a certain song, comes a section of that there. Totally different things one after another. Most of the songs here are 11 to 13 minutes in length, and have many different chapters or sections, with really no consistant theme. A song may include death metal hardcore parts with doublekick sometimes, with or without the deathgrowl, or the good singing voice the vocalist has as well, more progressive rock parts, acoustic guitar breakdowns, very technical fast riffs and or soloes. Sometimes all or almost all of the aforementioned. The vocalist is a good one, sustaining tones for long times, both clean and in the deathgrowl. And sometimes what he says growling is quite intelligible, which is a good thing. Instrumentation as well is good, these guys aren't beginners. And then amidst the long chapter divided songs there's a 3 minute piano solo, played by the drummer. Bottom line: Musically well crafted album. And a lot of different things done, lot of different influences. You're not gonna like this album if: You don't like long songs. You don't like the death growl. I was thinkin of saying If you're not a metalhead as well, but I think that with all that musicianship, and especially with all the nonmetal things and progressive influences, this may be one of those albums to impress people that don't generally like metal, or sway people into listening to stuff like death metal. This is also not an album about either Satanism, or brutal torture or other sick stuff. The lyrics are often stories for example. My friend described the longer songs are paintings or artwork, and I think I'll have to agree with that. They take you on a long exciting journey. In that way this is similar to the post rock I've heard from quite a few bands, in the way that they divide the songs into long, often totally different, parts. A very well done job. Toxic1 Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Interesting that you pick Explosions in the Sky's first and worst album to review. It has some decent tracks, but it doesn't hold a candle to their 2nd and 3rd albums "Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die blah blah......." and "Earth blah blah......". Anyhow, I've lost alot of interest in them because they don't know how to write something different beyond what they've done already. The only active post rock bands that matter today are Do Make Say Think and Dirty Three. DMST continue to evolve which is something that EITS doesn't seem capable of. DMST's "Winter Hymn Country Hymn Secret Hymn" is the last AMAZING post rock album released as of today. Quote

Offering an upbeat yet some what sinister vibe with great hooks, very cheery musical ethics n great hooky throbbing bass lines this band sure as hell know how to write a pop song! This they're latest effort is no break from the mould, as consistent as ever this band yet again pulls off an album with songs full of hooks, none failing to leave an impression an example of a very immediate and grabbing track would be 'The Underdog' with great use of brass instruments, strumming guitars it's a candidate for everyones summer playlist. The funky bass lines are very much present in this album also in the catchy 'Dont You Evah' where as the highlight of the album 'My Japanese Cigarette Case' is quite a lot darker then the majority of the album, sounds a hell of alot more aggresive with the user of uneasy strings, but staying true to the pop ethics. Though the structure and presentation of this album ensures a very nice and approachable album they also ensure a very long shelf life with each songs many quirks becoming more obvious on repeated listens, this is a great pop album with very few things to complain about, great hooks, staying power, inteligant lyrics.... this is what great pop music is all about & is one of my faviroute pop albums since 'Chutes Too Narrow' by the Shins. But I liked the old White Stripes, the one that rocked the one with the less is more attitude! With Icky Thump we very much see this attitude back & I like this fact! The album has the insanley over the top songs 'Conquest' being a hooky triumph which is very immediat 'You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As Your Told)' again offers anoter potential single which will be one of they're best singles (they are a great singles bad after all this is really something). The sound is more simple & works hugley in Meg and Jack's favour other songs such as 'Rag & Bone' are pretty different and charming 'Icky Thump' is lyrically one of the best things Jack has ever done n is incredibly interesting. However its not all good, as per usual the drumming is, although slightly better, very simply and repetetive & the album really does drag with a pretty uninspiring end, this however is a very nice album which deserves at least a listen by people into alt rock/ blues music, fans of they're older stuff will eat this up, that is for certain! Many of they're songs are faviroutes in my head and songs such as 'Bullet With Butterfly Wings' will forever be considerd one of my faviroute tracks ever! It is because of this solid legacy they left behind (bar Machina) I was slightly worried about this reuniuon, what would they provide? Well the awnser is this and ufourtenetly its not the kinda album that swoons you like their previous efforts! Now I never expected a repeat of Melen Collie or Siamese Dreams even, however I had hoped for a good rock album for me to rock to! Well this partly true, as ever the drumming is superb and some riffs REALLY hit the spot that many bands can't reach but its soooo samey.... sooo very lacking in variety it's practically all thrash thrash thrash! Billy has never been the vocal God but his voice where as before added an element of unique to they're music now just sounds incredibly shot & annoying! Especially during the harmonies, it's not all bad '7 Shades Of Black' is pretty good as is 'Tarantula' my faviroute song is the more melodic 'Pomp And Circumstances' which is very much the likes of 'Disarm'. But this album is just too long! It drags n drags feels like its never going to end and unfourtenetly this leaves me very =( Billy i expected more from u! Stenners Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 LPF Review Singles Run Down 03/07/07 Single Of The Week: The Go! Team - Grip Like A Vice The return of Brighton based Go! Team shows the band still emphesising a fun and wacky sound with retro meets modern sound continuing, yes they still sound like they are playing 2 songs at once, but that their charm! The rapping goes down nicely its just a great sounding song and I look greatly forward to their new album as they have just shove the best song of their careet down our throats. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=JvIRY4vccts 9.25/10 The Ripps - Holiday Lyrically and vocaly this track is pretty much a joke, this the 3rd single off of their debut album is yet again a terribly bland and poor song with no momentum to it! It twoodles along inoffensivley and uninspiringly so. It's just the appitemy of bland this actually nothing to it I particually enjoy. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=J_h9-7JwgQo 3.5/10 Beirut - Elephant Gun Beirut, one of the best new bands America has to offer us in what has been already a great 9 months or so in music this the latest song of the new-ish EP 'Lon Gisland' its got brilliant rolling drums, pretty simple strumming and some nice use of brass instrumentolio! It's full of charm, it's pretty damned emotional and in general is very nice song! The video is good to. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=kjeh6P4sRfw 9/10 Arctic Monkeys - Fluorescent Adolescent This style of british 'indie rock' esentially brit pop part 2 really is getting old! However this song is pretty neat, taken off of the 'Faviroute Worst Nightmare', which was much better than expected, this song offer a nicer slower pace to most of they're music with a funky guitar riff to boot. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=N64QMKEbJQg 7.5/10 Modest Mouse - We've Got Everything This was very natural choice for a follow up single, the dancey guitar riff, the electric kick drum, shins james mercers backing vocals. Yea its very catcy, lyrically clever & in the basic sense incredibly dancey but it feels a little hollow & as a result is one of the weakest singles the band has put out. 7.5/10 Tokyo Police Club - Your English Is Good One of my faviroute new bands! Yes they aren't at all serious or arty but they havent put out a song I don't like, this is no different & is my summer anthem for '07. I love it, it's hookey, pretty clever n just goes down niceley! I LOVE THESE CANADIANS! They dont sound as Strokes like in this song either, sort of finding their own sound =D http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=3DbqrVD5Nhc 9/10 Justice - D.A.N.C.E Nice lil dancey tune from electronica mamoths Justice, sure it's a lot more poppy but my God is it infectious, a sure fire floor filler from this french duo! It's not a true representation of their sound which is alot more harder and electronic but this is a nice bit of pop/disco to dance ur lil ass off to http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6KiUKTsLvJc 8.5/10 Simian Mobile Disco - It's The Beat Justice's main competitor these days, they have collaberated on the rightfully thought out Justice Vs Simian - We Are Your Friends! This song is alot less pop n true to their general sound which is grimey electronic sound, this is incredibly dancey and catchy n when turned up will get anyone moving! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=HZPXgQSPm8A 8/10 Quote Delete my account, the is no reason why it should be against standard procediure, do it do it do it. Or LPF Sessions 3 leaks before it's done and Spoilers will be posted for every film release. Not to mention periodic troll invasions.

Stllmn8j Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 can u rate the neon bible? think the band is Arcade Fire Here you go! Artist: Arcade Fire Album: Neon Bible Genre: Alternative Listen out for the massive sound of Arcade Fire, you can hear it almsot every where. The big sound braught on by brass instruments, delightfully placed strings layerd and produced to a glimpse of heaven, thats what I would of said about Funueral which is a near masterpiece. This Arcade Fires 2nd full length release 'Neon Bible' shows the band just as dreary and depressed as ever, not a band for optimisum or dancing, Arcade Fire offer meaningful lyrics over sweet melodies and clever musical arrangments. For the most part this album is truley meaningful and a real pleasure to listen but unlike 'Funueral' this album shows cracks, the band are at times sooo protentious its almost painful to listen to them as your opinion of yourself actually goes down. The real strength of the album is right at the end 'Building Downtown', 'Windowsill' & 'No Cars Go' offer the best run of songs I have heard from an album for a very long time. Inspirational and great at times but also protentious and snobby at other times. 9/10 Quote
