The song has alot of balls to it, it's dance groovey and the slower more melodic ending is very nice if only more pop music was this good. 7.5/10 http://panther3.last.fm/storable/image/162109/small.jpg Cherry Ghost ...........Roses# This weeks itunes freebie, this free single is a piano laced melodic inoffensive piece of muisc designed to please rathe than challenge. It's an easy song to get in to & it isn't that bad at all. However it is safe, maybe a bit too safe to the point that all of it's feeling is lost, but still it has a nice ending. 5.5/10 http://iconhell.com/i/iconhell_napoleonfan1_bright%20eyes.gif Bright Eyes ...........Hot Knives http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Ns6YKipCfUU Singer song writter pretty boy 'Bright Eyes' presented us with the luke warm but shoulda been scorching offering 'Casagada' earlier this year.... it was kind of a let down. This song is deffinatly one of the choice cuts, it's hooky & dramatic and is per usual with 'Bright Eyes' lyrically one of the best songs you could ever want to hear. An emotional rollercoaster of a song that any emotionally unstable person should cheeeeeck out. 8/10 http://t0.ca/news/50/FallOutBOy_50.jpg Fall Out Boy ...........The Take Over/The Breaks Over http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=zElEs8yw7fw It will be incredibly naive of you guys expecting me to go out all guns blazing over this track quite simply the best song on their last effort, I actually quite like this songs dynamics the hand claps go well with the their style, it's dancey. The hook pretty powerful the only thing really letting it down is alot of the guitar riffage enters cheesey cliche territory. 7/10 http://panther3.last.fm/storable/image/83354/small.jpg Bats For Lashes ...........Whats A Girl To Do? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=n1wnOUH2jk8 Bats For Lashes is one strange artist, pretty much on the verge of Bjork accept not quite as weird, this is a spoken word song...... well this sounds like a pretty bad idea but the eary backing the great hook it's all accountable for a very well done and very well accomplished song. Disturbed twisted & just brilliant. 8.5/10 http://www.meanfiddler.com/images/upload/howdy-do50.jpg Eugene McGuinness ...........Monsters Under The Bed http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xnujO3SCGBE Psycadelic pop is a bit of a no brainer for my music taste, I love it soooo much. This track not much of an exception, great hook, pretty whitty lyrics and to boot the songs gets one of the best videos I have seen so far this year! Its great I have been blowing the horn for this band for a while, no it's not arty, clever or particually original what it is though is a show case for what radio pop rock SHOULD sound like as opposed to what it DOES sound like. 8/10 http://static3.last.fm/storable/image/135784/small.jpg Animal Collective ...........Fireworks http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=W6KPDWNAPBU Okay so we are hyping this band to death on this forum but it's within great reasson this song is a terrific example of subtle melodies & that it doesnt have to be in your face to be a hooky summery song. It's unique drumming pattern, vocal placements on o so sweet throbbing bass? Breakdown Conspiracy Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 The BCINC Review. http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/5158/artworklh8.png Now Ive been away for a few days or I would have done this earlier. Firstly props to Frib for reinventing the idea and to stllmn for taking the admin job. Stenners - Pirate Music I very much like the ambient reverb at the start, but I must say I'm not a huge fan of the genre that Stenners is trying to create. Despite my confliction, the production is flawless, and the sound is perfect. Great sound overall. 8/10 Stenners - Scenic Now I may not be a fan of the trance genre, but I am a fan of Stenners sampling efforts. His echoy typewriter noise and phone beeps blend in very well, despite eventually become a bother. But again he pulls through with unmatchable production, and sound, quality. I also like the choice of strings used. 9/10 Breakdown_Conspiracy - Everything w/ Yesterday *cough* Firehawk - Nterlude Very nice and ambient, close to my heart, yet the beat could have had more thought put into it. :D8/10 Mr Pool - Sun Stay The intro Im am very envious of, because it sounds very nice. But one the song gradually starts my intrest is lost, as it happends in most mash-ups. It just sounds to loud and to much distortion from both songs. 5/10 SON ft. Breakdown_Conspiracy - Dark I cant my stand my drums in the song because it was a quick overnight thing. But the guitar sample it flawless. It sounds beautifully chilling. 7/10 on SON's behalf. Jeezy - N.O.C.B.M. Hmm well it seems Trance-wise, Stenners and Jeezy have always been the to driving forces. But this time it seems Jeezy lacks out against Stenners "Scenic". Mainly because it lacks something.. what that is but I'm not sure. But I must give kudos to Jeezy because of his more Mainstream sound and his less annoying, random instruments. I'd say it sounds very much like music from a Final Fantasy game. 8/10 Breakdown_Conspiracy - White (This Sharp Chill) *skips* Ceiban - Silence is Flawless One thing is would wish is that Frib would stop changing his music name >< But other wise this ambient lil tune has much thought into it. But alot of the time it just sounds like random jamming, with obvious mistakes being heard. 6/10 Choaten Recordz - Stell Dir Vor A very unoriginal idea but it works well, of course the stand it vocalists cannot hold a candle to MS and HB, but its good. 6/10 Stenners - Blind Owl This is probavbly a 2nd fav track from Stenners. its not as random as Pirate Music, and it flows nice. Not much to say really.. 8/10 Mr Pool - Fear 9.0 Another Mash up hmm? Again some peices work very well, like the intro and some bits druing the main parts of the song, and at the end (which is my favourite). Id say and improvement from Sun Stay. 7/10 Jeezy - Matrix Re-reloaded I dont know how much is actualy changed from the original, but excellent music all the same. Nice for playing an online FPS :-P :D8/10 Chaoten Recordz - W-City Im sorry to say this is one of the worst tracks on the album. I dont know why, I think its the vocals, they have to much background noise, but the music is nice:thumbsup: 3/10 SON - Song A I kind of a random song, but it reminds me when I was in a band and used to jam with friends, nice solo 4/10 Praya - 26 Reasons To Hate Him Despite the music being sampled, it sounds VERY nice, and works well. I honestly had know idea it was sampled when I 1st heard it. The vocals are great too, despite the sound levels being off at times, "You can have all the cheese in the world, but that don't mean you have all the crackers" is awseome! :thumbsup:9/10 Oh well that my review done. Please don't fight to much children. Quote .no
Friðbjörn Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 album: Dear love: A Beautiful Discord artist: Devil wears prada genre: metal/heavy rock, alternative rock (influences ranging from math rock to pop punk to death metal) Well, needless to say I expected something typically screamo emo angsty wannabe metal something, with a name like that, lol. But I was taken by surprise by this album. (oh and about the name...I went and read the wiki on this band after listening to the album, and was surprised by hearing they're christian, lol. and the name apparently has a deep meaning for them, in how they oppose all this obsession with material possessions) Alright let's get to it. The intro of the album is one of those kinda...I dunno. You listen to it, and wonder how on earth the band made those sounds, and yet you kinda think just, "bleh". The good thing is though that the intro ties with the opening track, in the way the intro ascends to this audio climax and the first song kicks in with heavy drums and distorted guitars. Instant rush of adrenaline. Well done. The piano loops in between really surprised me, but they were beautiful and surprisingly enough mixed well with the other parts of the song, which were of heavy metal-ish nature. Track 3 (song two) is one of those tracks whose title confuses me. But, yeah. The vocalist kind of showcases everything on this one. The guitars are rather heavy, but pretty simple, and the bass only stood out at one point in the song, which is honestly not good enough bass work. But yeah, again to the vocalist. It starts off with him in this higher pitched screaming, but then he makes the transition into this Cannibal Corpse-ish really low pitched cookie monster growl, which for the guitar part it accompanied, fit perfectly. Then later on he goes into actual singing, with melodies and everything, and the bridge vocally sounds like typical pop punk or mainstream rock or whatever. Huge downpoint. Rest of the song is kickass though. It blows your head off. And The Sentence Trails Off... really shows how this band incorporates many influences into their music. The electronica elements remind me of Rammstein (not how they blend with the rest really, but yeah), the tempo changes and deathgrowls are traits of deathmetal, the piano breakdown reminds me of the acoustic breakdowns of Opeth, the melodic singing is pop punk all over, and the technicality of the song is somewhere between Rammstein, and simpler old thrash Metallica stuff, like Battery (except the soloes of course). The rest of album goes a bit downhill, for me, except the last track, which opens up and unfolds instrumentally, but then there's this one part which kind of sounds like a verse or something with vocals, and then the song ends kind of abruptly, but still not a bad job at all. Regardless of anything else you might say of this band, you can say that the members are thinkin outside the box. They're trying different things. The blend, they fuse. They're unafraid to incorporate stuff into their rock that other bands would shy away from. Sometimes it sounds rather silly, but you can't blame the guys for being sick of the conventional methodology of mainstream rock. I really sat back and laughed, and thought to myself, wow. This is really not your average album. If you like fusions you'll like this. The tracks go from here to there. One minute it sounds like Lostprophets, next minute like death metal, next like I dunno what. Don't be surprised to hear a rapid keyboard melody, seemingly unfitting to palm muted distorted riffs, in the background. Vocals change to different emphasis in the instrumentation. However I think many people that listen to this album are gonna go "wtf are these guys thinking??? zomg". And that's because it might be too much. Too wide ranged. Too much all over the place instead of focusing on distinct things. And while I give huge credit to the willingness to try different things (that really open your ears to different things) just within, say 45 seconds, the turnout isn't always fabulous. So, great ambition and experimentation. Rating: 6,5/10 coming up: Body count Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Quote [broken External Image]:http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/2784/lpfas08mostintelligentym8.jpg

Stenners Posted July 12, 2007 Author Posted July 12, 2007 http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/418WdLJ-lOL._AA240_.jpg Artist: Sonic Youth Album: Daydream Nation (20th Aniversary Edition) Genre: Noise Rock/Punk/Alternative Every so often you get an album that changes the face of music forever & no we aren't talking about these flash in the pan albums which sell loads n loads n loads but ulitmatley leave very little impact ala Hybrid Theory. This band, by this point already 4 albums strong + a side project in Cicone Youth reached their absaloute pinacle, never before has a band been so consistently acclaimed, for the past 25 years this band has released triumphent record after triumphent record (-NYC Ghosts or whatever it was called(. This band has influenced many bands such as Nirvana & Yeah Yeah Yeahs, in fact Nirvana's signing had a great deal with Youth frontman Thurston Moore. Late 80's saw bands emerging and at the time and probably to an extent much more succesful then Sonic Youth in terms of sales Pixies were starting to get some sort of recognition and Nirvana were begining to emerge with an anticipated album. http://panther1.last.fm/proposedimages/original/6/296/401025.jpg Anyways, very few albums I have listend to can claim a place in my heart such as this one but heres the interesting part, when my uncle first thrusted this album on my lap I just didnt understand it. I actually hated it and got bored very very quicky, it was just flat to me and meant nothing.... I don't quite know when or why it happend but I found the CD and decided to try it again (after all many consider this to be the finest CD released) & I was captivated, the sprawling guitars, mad feedback, space rock vocals, etc. Frankly it has more or less anything you could ever wan't from an acomplished album. The opening chords of the album lead to those who are familiar with the record to have a minor heart murmer as your heart misses a beat, the truley captivating song that is 'Teenage Riot' kicks in and your off. At the time this introduced the listeners to a more melodic, spacey and dream like Youth but at the same time it also introduced us a much les no-wave and much more punk sonic youth. http://panther1.last.fm/proposedimages/original/6/296/253649.jpg This song is followed by the much more hooky and punky 'Silver Rocket' which has a very strong melody and even a mad noise rock out in the middle, this album is full of the guitar play & song writing that many bands aspire to but can never hope to ahcieve. Not restrained to 'Chords' this band loves to make weird noises, off chords and play off each others feed back at nauscia 'The Sprawl' is an excelent example of.... well Sprawling guitars. In this album full of highlights another very special couple of songs to me are 'Erics Trip' with its bizzare arrangements and the more othordox yet not short of brilliant 'Rain King' the album leaves you feeling like you have been taken away, superb musicanmanship, lyrically an emotionally umbalanced album which even leads into murder. This is a nice lil dark album which ends on a superb trilogy, I really can't find much to falter about it to be honest, okay its a task to get into but the rewards are totally worth it. http://panther1.last.fm/proposedimages/original/6/296/300315.jpg So what is new on this special edition? Well at the end of disc 1 the is a demo of Erics Trip which is a little more tight but it's disc 2 which youth fans have been looking forward to the most. It has a brilliant live cd which to top it all off includes 4 extremely rare cover versions of various songs, where as before you had to look on ebay to find them at HUGE ass prices buthere they are and they are some of the best covers I have ever heard. Few albums can ever claim to be as acomplished as this one, the pinnacle of rock, quite possibly the finest album I am likely to hear for a long time....... the really isnt much to falter even Providence (an interlude) captures my attention longer then alot of the stuff put out today, a record that changed the face of music? Deffinatly, a worthy re-release...... i'd say it will be the best re-issue you will see all year. Stenners Posted July 12, 2007 Author Posted July 12, 2007 http://youaintnopicasso.com/images/npchallengers.jpg I hate their choice of artwork.... I really do Artist: The New Pornographers Album: Challengers Genre: Alt.Pop/Indie I like to stick by this, one of the most under appriciated forces in pop music currently around, the New Pornographers offer incredbily catchy & thrilling pop music that sends tingles down your spine open up the ranky clouds and shove sunshine in every single damned orophis on your body. Yes it's damned catchy stuff, 'Twin Cinema' and 'New Romantic' are under appriciated gems, this their newest effort shows the band once again returning to what it knows & thats upbeat music which eats away at your subconscious till you can't help but smile when you see a bird perhaps hit it's head on blossoming flower.... ahhh yes thats what life is all about, screw the self pitty! Enjoy yourself. Okay one observation I have made is this album is a lil slower then their previous efforts but the first 4 or 5 tracks in particular are up there with the best they have done, the brilliant harmonies the interplay between both vocalists and interesting arrangments and selection of instruments make a standard hooky approachable pop song into growers, yes this is music that starts off great but just keeps on getting better. http://panther1.last.fm/proposedimages/original/6/1001820/104731.jpg When it comes down to it though this record does recycle ideas later on but thats not a totally terrible thing, it just makes the album drag a little bit! Thankfully the short and sweet option is here, it's not an overly long album 1 or 2 tracks on top of the excisting selection would of certainly of really hurt it..... thankfully at 48mins it just about saves it's self from this it's just such a shame the rear end doesn't match up to the sublime start. HaziLPTonz Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 i ll g back a bit, i like jeezy's single review, the new singles out are really good, especially FOBs takeover, breaks over track, its personally one of my faves off IOH, only just shaded by Thnks Fr Th Mmrs. while the guitars are indeed cheezy, they were done by both Ryan Ross and Chad Gilbert, not actually reorded by patrick or joe, which i spose gives it abit of a differnt feel anyways, someone do a review of Yellowcard's Paper Walls, i ll do my own review soon as well. i dont mind the new pornogprahers, but the name is odd indeed, mind you nothing should surprise me with names like...whole wheat bread, panic at the disco, red jumpsui apparatus...and my favourite..."spoon" Quote http://www.sucksbbs.net/data/MetaMirrorCache/ddd296f8f90eca79dbafae096b6d28b3.jpg
Stenners Posted July 13, 2007 Author Posted July 13, 2007 Artist: Yellowcard Album: Paper Walls Genre: Pop Punk Adreneline pumped pretty glossed pretty boy rock, thats often the case with Pop Punk but for me to slam this band over such cradentials would be very wrong for me to do! Okay let's look at this from an open perspective for a pop punk album the are a couple of interesting ideas, musically it is indeed sound.... & quite frankly it does what many pop punk albums can't do & that is satisfy. The opening track 'The Takedown' suprised me from the word go I really wouldn't mind dancing/moshing or whatever to this it's got a nice pace to it nice riffs sure as hell a good way to kick off an album. This generally continues 'Keeper' being a tiny bit slower but still appriciatable 'Light Up The Sky' is one of the albums highlights by offering something different, more instruments which is rare in a pop punk album which usualy thrives on the boring Drums, Guitar & Bass formula. http://media.canada.com/1785a528-bef3-4f04-af39-9312146bfd98/yellowcard.jpg In general this album pretty much has the feel of a classic Pop Punk album it's consistent & though it's all been done before it rarley get's done much better and though this is nothing about the album that challenges or indeed requires much consentration to digest it's just a good strong pop punk album. With hooks everywhere some simple yet attractive riffs & a simple yet effective structure in each song which is varied threw out (if they stcuk to the same structure this album woulda been terrible). Could this be a band working at it's peak? Quite possibly! Will this be like 'Dookie' and go down as cool pop punk albums? Yes. Stenners Posted July 13, 2007 Author Posted July 13, 2007 Artist: Yourcodenameis:Milo Album: They Came From The Sun Genre: Post-Hardcore/Indie YCNI:M are one bad that dabble in Post hardcore that I have the upmost respect for they sound like a post hardcore band on shrooms, the guitars swirly and the general sound of the band incredibly spacey, especially that seen on superb Ingoto. Here that general sound continues as you may have expected but with it comes a more arty & indie sound? The result is a far more melodic endevour where the guitar thrashing, yelling n general cries of despair remain but it's more melodic.... its more sophisticated if you will. And yes this sound does very much suit them & this is an album where indie and emo kids a like are likely to find some common ground.... even if it is for completelty different reassons. Friðbjörn Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 album: Body Count artist: Body Count genre: hardcore punk, metal, rapcore year: 1992 Yes you guessed it, this is Ice-T's metal band! Who knew? I didn't, that's for sure. Now this is BC's oh so politically incorrect debut album. I'm guessin all parents associations went bananas over this one. The first track for example, which is a skit, features Ice-T killing a cop. Among lyrical topics is Body Count's members having sex with daughters of KKK members among other things, with quite graphic descriptions. However this band is quite harmless. They lobby for black civil rights and protest the conditions in black LA neighbourhoods. The Winner Loses is a sort of a ballad that describes how drugs basically fuck you up. This band is generally considered rapcore, or so I've learned, although the rap influence is minimal on this album. Ice-T also doesn't rap on this album, his vocals are mostly spoken, and occasionally sung. (an exception is the last track on later versions, like mine, which is an old Ice-T rap song called Freedom of Speech, but that replaced the controversial song Cop Killer) The music on this album is mostly heavy rock or metal, with the hardcore punk usually staying close by. I first thought when I listened to the first songs on the album, "oh no not another all power chord band" but the lead guitarist actually pulls off some nice soloes on this album, some longer than others. Some of this stuff is even almost thrash metal, but not as heavy as that though. The exceptions are the ballad The Winner Loses, and the short instrumental C-Note, which is quite beautiful and should frankly have been longer. Body Count knows how to rock, and Ice-T actually does know how to be a frontman, that is when he's not doing the typical rap antics of "Body count in the house", or "you can suck my (you know what)" and laughing evilly. Him talking over Ernie-C's soloes also isn't cool at all. However he can be a nice lyricist, fighting prejudice on a metaphorical level in Momma's Gotta Die Tonight, for example. This is gonna appeal to you if you're angry and want release of your anger. The melodic parts of this album aren't many and this band sounds like a cross between RATM and Public Enemy, at least lyrically, and without the nice soloes and the two melodic songs the guitar on this album would be totally less than impressive. The riffs are often good hooks and very catchy though, so not all bad work. so I guess this musically deserves around a fiver. rating: 5,5/10 Quote [broken External Image]:http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/2784/lpfas08mostintelligentym8.jpg
Black_Angel Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Artist: Yourcodenameis:Milo Album: They Came From The Sun Genre: Post-Hardcore/Indie YCNI:M are one bad that dabble in Post hardcore that I have the upmost respect for they sound like a post hardcore band on shrooms, the guitars swirly and the general sound of the band incredibly spacey, especially that seen on superb Ingoto. Rating: 8/10 I've been meaning to look YCNI:M up for some time but just never got round to it; maybe I should get round to it soon. haha. Yay indiemo! Quote i still love you, girl from mars.
Toxic1 Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 These recommended album reviews should at least be the ones to contain a link to the album. Like, if it's an 8/10 or higher. Quote
azemkamikaze03 Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 damnit i wanted to do paper walls ohwell lol um naw i wouldnt reccomend providing links. only because if its a great album, then the artist deserve the money. Quote ¿whysoserious?
Friðbjörn Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 I'm all for providing the links. you provide a link to a good album, the more likely it is that more people hear the good music. and the deserving artist only gets I dunno how small a percentage of album sales Quote [broken External Image]:http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/2784/lpfas08mostintelligentym8.jpg
azemkamikaze03 Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 so we are basically making those album sales smaller? and what difference does the known factor make if no one is buy her album? Look bands like Greenday, Kelly Clarkson, various hip hop rappers i could care less if we "steal" from them cuz they are gunna make millions none the less but bands like say the ones stenners mentioned are only so "popular" half of them i have never heard of, or if i have its because some other music junkie told me about them. I'm positive these bands are not that popular and probably dont make as much sales as others and us denying to buy their albums for one shows that we could care less about them as a group and two shows that we as so called fans would rather be cheap and steal from them rather than help their cause and buy their stuff. why do u think holly brook is doing so bad? half her fans probably just downloaded her damn album. its the people who deserve it and need it who dont get it. seriously, i mean i know some people here are music artists and i know id be pissed as hell if people were downloading my shit and not even paying for one song on iTunes or anything. we hurt smalltime bands. if u wanna rip somebody off do it to the mainstream. not to people who are just barely making it.
