Stenners Posted November 7, 2007 Author Posted November 7, 2007 http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/4126/foliagecopywl2ac2.png Various Artists The LPF Session Vol. 2.0 Alt/Electronic/Rock/Remix When I had started the LPF Projekt alongside with Agent I had no idea that it would eventually lead to this offspring collection of songs, now more ambitious & bigger then ever this idea seems to be heading the right direction.... or is it? The first thing that strikes you about this particular is the sheer amount of skits and interludes which are present which had been abandoned ages ago for a pretty obvious reasson, a reasson made so clear here, being really poor and overlong... OVER LONG rehashes of Reanimation skits just sort of ya know points any lack of self control and selective editing and cutting as is forever present in this installment of the collection. Sure enough this collection does present some of the best moments ever noted on the collection, Razor Red Noise being probably the main driving force behind the collection with a couple of pretty decent rock cuts which sound really professionaly produced which is pretty much a first for any of the collections and does show a more ambitious approach. The usual instrumentals are present from myself as well as Gradon putting in some instrumental input to pretty decent effect but it's just a tad cheesey. The second half of the album is where it really trails off, the production values seem to get cheaper, the skits get longer and the remixes seem to sound too close to the original cuts, most present 'Ayeohsix' which really isn't that much of a remix but more of an extended version. 'Magic Glasses' is different but flawed, the midie guitar is horrible and the time signatures are off and most of it just sounds random 'Creep' is a nice instrumental which should of gone somewhere, it is far too short 'Oddacity' is a pretty nice instrumental which is pretty unique in sound though pretty repetetive, Prayas trilogy of songs lack the variety that sort of ruins perfectly fine production, they just go on threw out the album and just way too long & when the cheesey shout outs and phone outs begin it sort of kills a perfectly fine melody 'Insecurity' is a well cut track before 'Break' comes in with yet another cringe worthy stab at a skit. The end of the album right at the end features some unfourtenetly poor production but some of the more interesting ideas. Unfourtenetly the album lacks the flow, it has too many pointless and poorly pulled off skits, the trilogy by 'Praya' though a perfectly fine concept is ruined by overplay and way to much cheesey cliche moments, alot of the rushed and poorly produced tracks are quite unfourtenate to. Some of the random moments and stabs at being original often fail but sometimes work, though for the greater stab at originality alone makes this alot more interesting then past works, though it's not enough to make it one of the most overlong & dull of the bunch. 4/10 Reccomended: With White Ink, In Dust, In Victory, Oddacity, Insecurity, Tearing Down Each Others Wall Quote Delete my account, the is no reason why it should be against standard procediure, do it do it do it. One of the highlights off of one of the albums of the year, 'Liars', this song is melodic and not at all daunting or alienating and offers a strong hook and lonley sound that the band have adopted. The beeps and noise is present but rather then being in the foreground its in the background.... the kitten on the video is so adorable! 9/10 http://www.wwr.com.tw/images/record_db/artists/1169973461.png The Whitest Boy Alive <> Burning Amongst all the activety in the music scene the are bands that subsiquently get totally ignored or forgotten about. This one is no different, this band has unexpectedly almost totally invaded the radar of the mainstream & even in the indie underground seems to be devoid of recognition. This the latest output from the band is once again a nice sweet minimalisticly cleanly produced track shows the sweet soft vocals prevaling along a nice melody, it may not scream single material but it certainly a really good song... but will it finnaly cause the stir that they seem to deserve.... the is a chance but it's a very small one. 7.5/10 http://www.spin.com/cmj06/images/2006/11/061104_odeath2.jpg O'Death <> Down To Rest This band is totally insane! Charging at the public head first totally off their receding hairline heads with a degree of insanity & fun that we seem to lack totally in todays music woes of either uptight indie snobbery of cliche mainstream rock ignorance. Folk, often seen as a soft genre, when done like this in a Tom Waits like manor is very haunting and in your face and VERY LOUD! It something you can imagine the devil dancing to before reaking havoc and something you can imagine a serial killer playing during a murder. It's nuts... but sooo much fun, this band are much better live though. 8.5/10 http://www.getyourpeople.com/sonanddaughters-band.jpg Sons & Daughters <> Gilt Complex If every song with gothic influences and intentions so cliche free then I would really dig the genre, as it's dark and a place that SHOULD emphesise a persons darkest emotions.... instead it's a joke. This is a more rocky sound with goth undertones all over the place.... & it pays off well. The guitar riff is simple and hooky, it has the backing vocals and a strong female lead, it's pretty much something for a fan of any place in rock music... unless you like the cliche dark shit... stay away. 7/10 Quote Delete my account, the is no reason why it should be against standard procediure, do it do it do it. Stenners Posted November 8, 2007 Author Posted November 8, 2007 Before I continue this review let me show you this http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1j-y03kNuEM ... pretty bad huh well I think i'm going to continue to bash this, the worst live band I have EVER seen EVER which includes local bands in dingey dive of a pub! http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61T0xkRg87L._AA240_.jpg Angels & Airwaves I-Empire Punk/Emo I bring to you the second comming of jesus, the all mighty most finest song writers of our generation, with the most charismatic and overwhelmingly attracive personality ever. He can get whoards of lonley, depressed and jockey teens or weedy ones to bob their head in agreement, whilst sending everyone else into a state of awe... the one the only TOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! -> This is exactly what goes on in this persons head, sure he may get the lonley, depressed teens & jocks alike to bob in agreement but he sends everyone else to sleep with his boarish attitude, egotistical cuntface of a persona! YES! He is that bad, I have heard his stage banter and seen his interviews. So basically this uneccisary follow up to the awful debut fairs off even worse then the debut as Tom enters EPIC territory, essentially his idea of epic is songs that go on far too long, with one or 2 chords and ulitmatley go no where without any conviction. The best thing to say about the album is that the minute to 2minutes of self indulgant wankery by people that cant wank very well is gone and most of the songs start more abruptly, the rest angsty & repetetive and overlong... the is nothing redeeming about this album it's just durge and an insult to everyone who hears it, if I saw Tom in the street before this album came out I would of simply given him evils... now I would do something a lil more like this... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=i1e08VgA4QA 2/10 Quote Delete my account, the is no reason why it should be against standard procediure, do it do it do it. Stenners Posted November 8, 2007 Author Posted November 8, 2007 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41nuzyJfzOL._AA240_.jpg Jay Z American Gangsta Hip Hop Jay Z almost left his career on a low, falling off with 2 of his most critically slated albums of all time 'Collision Course' & 'Kingdom Come' it was such a shame to see such a great rap artist fall from the top. 'Kingdom Come' was a truley disgusting hip hop album that, with it's bling bling theme' totally made a mokery of all the things that Jay Z's previous albums stood for. This album is loosley based off of the movie by the same name & is a concept album but most importantly this alternative persona that Jay seems to have invented within this concept reminds me more of Jay of old then Jay of new, thus avoiding all that glamour & going back to the nitty gritty ways of the street. The production on this album is in general pretty sweet, evident right from the intro to the get go that is 'Pray' which has a really nice shuffeling beat and some interesting time signatures. Though the first half of the album is really strong and all of it surpasses that of his previous release the first highlight doesn't kick in till it's 7 tracks in! Unfourtenetly for Jay the straight narrative and flow of the albums concept are interupted by the odd track, the first example of this would be 'Hello Brooklyn 2.0', that's not to say it's not a good track, in fact it's meer simplicity is done effectivley. You always get the feeling with this release that it isn't quite as tight of a concept album as Jay would of imagined and the 60minute run time is a bit much, but what hip hop album doesn't over run? This is a fine and welcome return to form for Jay & is actually one of his best albums to date. The first 3 tracks on this album are as good of a run of songs as your going to hear this year, in fact some publications are actually saying this run of 3 songs runs the introductionary 3 tracks shown on 'Funueral' by 'Arcade Fire' & I will have to say they are probably a much better introduction to a band then 'Arcade Fires' trio, Sunrise is simply a song of marvel and the hooky 2080 has a more conventional sound. For the most part it's psycadelic almost eastern musical scope offers somethign different to the majority of the indie band bulk & combined with the lavish melodies and vocals of superb diversity and quality from optimistic, standard to haunting this band have got something and if hoaned and continued, this band could really be a force to be reckoned with. The songs shuffeling feel is a real nice change for the band where as other singles where more brash, the brashness is still around in the hook but in all honesty I really dig this song for the shuffeling looping riff. 8/10 http://www.artistdirect.com/Images/artd/amg/music/bio/1662320_daedelus_200x200.jpg Daedelus <> Fair Weather Friends As far as producers go it can be tough to try and stay fresh in todays world and this is where Daedelus succedds.... partly. It sort of sounds different from most things on the market but the cheer-leader esc chanting reminds me of 'The Go! Team' too much, the sample of 'Girls think the same as guys do' does get a bit tiresome the 3rd time but look past these minor flaws and appriciate the actual music going on here then you got yourself a fairly decent if not toally unspectacular single. 6.5/10 http://www.100xr.com/100_XR/Artists/F/Foo_Fighters/Foo.Fighters-band-2002.jpg Foo Fighters <> Long Road To Ruin http://musicbox.sonybmg.com/videos/foo-fighters/long-road-to-ruin The 2nd release off of the Foo Fighters latest effort & well... whilst you listen to it you think... allright this isn't bad and the hook is pretty good I guess, it's nothing new on their behalf.. melodic yet heavy it's just a passable rock song. The thing is it leaves very minimal lasting impression and a couple minutes after a listen it's gone & void of memory. This the latest cut off of his Greatest hits album talks about his youth & his progress from being a kid lost in the world to what he is now, a provayer of rap music, and the chilled back atmosphere is pretty nice and it is a very laid back track with some pretty decent production but is it disposable... well yea. 7/10 http://www.offtopic.forum/data/MetaMirrorCache/5c6456413bf97d42a3ceac5c467fbdc7.jpg Bloc Party <> Flux http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ttcboE1GrNg Bloc Party have been going a bit stray now, with commercial appeal incresing towards the band their sound seems to change to suit this appeal. Their debut was one of the best albums of '05 with the best single of '05 (Helicopter) then their follow up 'A Weekend In A City' came and offered a few enjoyable cuts but sounded so much more tame and well over produced & then comes this i-tunes exclusive... Flux. It sounds like a remix of a Bloc Party song and is well a craptastic pop song of sorts & shows the band not only trying to grab onto the growing electronic rock hybrid market which is soreing but also shows a band completely forgetting who they are and loosing all their appeal. 3/10 http://www.offtopic.forum/data/MetaMirrorCache/a200c6cb75422ce38efd53003debdaac.jpg Oasis <> Lord Don't Slow Me Down http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7RKtq62IbD0 Oasis go threw stages, I mean they have been the Kinks & The Beatles & now as it will seem they wan't to be The Rolling Stones.... does this band actually have an original idea or creative bone in their ageing body? The most overrated band in history, this bands latest single sounds just like The Rolling Stones with a guitar riff very similar to that found on 'Lyla' so not only are the copying The Rolling Stones they are copying themselves , this song is instantly forgettable though not nearly as annoying as alot of their recent singles. 4/10 http://www.clickmusic.com/upload/operatorplease300.jpg Operator Please <> Leave It Alone http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jACE3DKFo0s Forgivingly this song isn't nearly as bad as 'Song About Ping Pong' which was just plain awful, nah this song is a standard dance indie track which does sound pretty good loud but & drunk but otherwise it's a bit of a meh moment. The violin is a nice touch of a band trying to vary it up a bit & the are some moments here which could promise something other then just a novelty band... thankfully 6/10 http://www.watercoolergossip.net/images/CSS_22jul06_01.JPG CSS <> Alcohol http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xT_C-NGB_1c Steady cash cow, CSS, have caused a storm amongst Nu-ravers in the british isles.. *dies a little inside* to be honest with you this is one of the 'movement' bands that are to a degree true to the fun & decent formula & having been a fan of theirs since the album first came out... around 2 years ago! It feels a bit odd to still see singles comming out for this thing, the jolley come latelys have this nice lovely and lyrically confusing song to dance to. I haven't really tried to divulge into it... Burial is an unknown producer (as in no one knows his true identity) who has been around the scene for a couple years now. With this release I can see what the hyping is all about & I must say I for one am glad, this stuff is so mellow and hypnotic you can just... listen & not even notice the state of mind it's putting you in. Listening to this album releases many chill vibes threw out the body as well as haunying ones. This stuff is nicely layerd and produced with some outstandingly used female sample vocals with tracks such as 'Shell Of Light' actually enducing emotion in which is often thought to be a rather cold and souless area of music. This is something of a gem which will probably skip the majority of peoples radars as it is pretty different and doesn't really sound like anything else I own, the experiance was totally worth it & I can see this on some clued up album of the year lists this year. 9.25/10 Quote Delete my account, the is no reason why it should be against standard procediure, do it do it do it. Not for these guys, this album seems to be more of a mix tape and an experiment of their own personal sound rather then a straight up country or lo-fi or indie pop album. This band go from moments of standard country folk singing and strumming to a more beck-esc approach before going to the land of 'The Shins' within a couple of tracks to each other & whilst this may not appeal to people that appriciate an album of consistency and direction it will appeal to people of shorter attention spans who are looking for good songs & that this album has plenty of. They seem to be specialists of writing a good tune, melody and hook & every genre they seem to take a stab at hits gold rather then a turkey, the country inspired 'Wild Mountain Nation' is the first track that really grabs your attention with tracks such as the hooky and more Beck styley approach are relentless with the hooks an buries deep into you subconscious. This album is a very good one, strong in many ways but sometimes the lack of direction can work against it, leaving you wanting a more specific and hoaned sound but this album is enjoyable in so many ways your almost whilling to forgive this almost entirley, the hooks are there to create an album which will be up there with the likes of 'The Shins' for the crown of best pop rock album of the year. 8.5/10 Quote Delete my account, the is no reason why it should be against standard procediure, do it do it do it. At first it has to be said this would of ranked up their with one of the most dissapointing listens of the year, on first listen the sheer mixing up of genres was exhausting and it really threw me off time after time after time. I gave it a couple more chances though an repeated listens have shown this album to be, considering the genre switches, to be a really tightly knitted album. The tracks seem to improve towards the later half of the album with a more funky electronic approach but where as the guitar orientated and rap rock tracks are simple they are saved in the delivery, tracks such as 'Dr.Love' show the groups flamboient tendency for a bit of a laugh and shows their main output here is to provide a good and strong collection of tracks & this album has done that, nothing more or truley reveloutionary but it's worth checking out & is every bit the debut I hoped. 8/10 Quote Delete my account, the is no reason why it should be against standard procediure, do it do it do it. Stenners Posted November 19, 2007 Author Posted November 19, 2007 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51x6oYcyTqL._AA240_.jpg The Killers Sawdust Indie Pop/Pop/Rock The odds n bobs stop off between albums is a traditonal move for either: a) the critically acclaimed who have been going on for some time now & have toones of EPs b) the money spinning pop machine c) the legends The Killers don't seem to fit in any category perfectly but the closest one will be to put them in the pop catergory.... does this work for them? Well like so many collections from this category the is nothing that much new about the cuts hidden here then the are on their actual discography. The thing is with most collections you can hope for something different and more edgey and potentially better but the appeal wasn't there so halted by the record company, these usualy seen as a way to reward the dedicated fans and a way to release such songs to the world.... but unlike the likes of 'Smashing Pumpkins' or 'Modest Mouse' the b-sides are significantly worse and more unfocused then their CD efforts, making this a collection of lesser songs. So now I have already established that this is a weaker effort then the blah 'Sams Town' and a down right few miles off of the impressive pop record what was 'Hot Fuss' what can you expect? Well the majority of these songs are Sams Town rejects and these are the same bland sound only not going anywhere and lacking any hooks & whilst the albums brute force can carry it on for 1 or 2 listens.... after that you realise the are still no COMPLETE moments of genius. The is the odd glitter of inspiration here but at the end of the day this is more for the completeist. 4.5/10 Quote Delete my account, the is no reason why it should be against standard procediure, do it do it do it. HaziLPTonz Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 interesting, its not really an album so much as it is just a release of b-sides and stuff to pass the time...sad really, theyre so much more than this, although some tracks are ok, not as good as ST or HF, but this is probably more for the fans than it is for the mainstream audience Quote http://www.sucksbbs.net/data/MetaMirrorCache/ddd296f8f90eca79dbafae096b6d28b3.jpg

If they were denied, lost or released on EPs then they are usualy some crackers but this just reeks of make shift release. Holy War Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Give me more than a paragraph "review" and I will listen too you, break your reviews down go from sound quality to originality...all you have here is your opinion of the music rather than a true artistic review, and you seem to favor unknown bands more than mainstream which I feel greatly declines your review ability if you can't see one aside from the other...your comparing, not reviewing. I have given mainstream bands posetive reviews, it's just most of it is more of the same. When I hear the same album for the 100th time with a different grill slapped on the front I get... ya know... bored. I'm not bias to the unknown bandm, but just to prove you wrong I will start to extend the reviews... again... if people actually read them again... the bite size chunks seemed to be working slightly better.. o well. And if you think 'Sound Quality' (level of production....) & 'Originality' which I do cover if you mean the score to find the means then fine I might re-introduce that to. In the next one then, it will be a full bloated beamouth! Quote Delete my account, the is no reason why it should be against standard procediure, do it do it do it.
