I was emphasizing more so on it haven't been done before. Not exactly how Linkin Park does it. But the theory of rap and rock mixing isn't new. Of course they threw some different things in. A lot of bands do that. But that doesn't mean they're something radically influenical and innovative.

I feel like numetal bands get way more harsh criticism than other genre bands. If another reggae band appears now no one's gonna flame them and say "ohh geez reggae's been done before, come on" which I feel is often the case when people criticise bands Korn, LB, etc

your right it does seem that nu-metal both get way more critizing but you must think it is like 2 or 3 most hated type of music in rock i have learned from a few general rock forums (mostly guitar forums) the most hated genres go (in a point of view from someone who likes rock)

 

-Rap-Hip/Hop (No rock influence)

-Emo

-Nu-Metal

Well see people hate Nu Metal because it's so commericalized and mainstream especially the metalheads. You mention Slipknot or KoRn on a metal forum and you'll be eaten alive. Now as far as Emo goes the bands marketed as emo aren't emo but in actuality are pop punk/Alternative Rock bands. People judge the bands based on the fanbase and not what the bands sounds like. But then again I've heard Deadstar Assembly called Emo and they're Industrial. Go figure. Rap varies from person to person I know some people who are into Rock/Metal but listen to a little bit of Rap. Personally I like a few songs but I don't see myself going out and buying a Rap CD. I listen to it more so comical relieve more then anything. :lol: Especially stuff like Lil Kim it's hilarious. XD

it's incredible how much prejudice rap has to deal with...especially on places like metal forums. now I don't go to the UG forums much...but I can imagine that it's there. cause I mean, on tabs of rap songs I've seen people post stuff like "don't listen to rap it makes you stupi" sayin they only tabbed it cause of requests...

well yeah numetal's the only metal that gets airplay where pop gets airplay...along with at times maybe metallica.

 

I'd say yeah emo (or not emo perhaps pop punk/etc) is a scapegoat...both rockers and rappers (and those who are both) lash out at bands like mcr just for existing. now I don't listen to that but I can't justify some of the attacks made

 

well most rap that gets much airplay is comical yeah, cause it's usually guys trying to be so cool and pimps I don't know what and being serious at it too...and most of the time they're just laughable and pathetic...and their lyrics suck. rappers like 50 cent and nelly...rubbish.
