Well, I guess that disproved the point about videogames and violence. It seems some people can't find the difference between reality and fantasy. Pity. Only someone who's really stupid would think that I was actually talking about hurting animals.

K guys, ref has the right to joke and say what he wants, as long as its on topic, which it ways.. I personally found what he said to be a bit funny because I knew what he was talking about. Had he been referring to real animals I would have gotten upset, too, as I love animals.. but it was a JOKE.. I really don't see much problem with violence in games, I mean if you live in the "hood" you are going to see ALOT more realistic violence. If you like watching movies, there is like 20X the gore...so honestly games are the least of our problems

I think it's total BS, these kids shouldn't be given an excuse, they're clearly not right if they let a video game shape them into who they'll become and base the way they act on it. It's just an excuse for theie behaviour. Surely they're smart enough to determine reality from games?

ok i think i have slightly changed my mind about this topic. my little girl (shes 9) has been watching harry potter and she has took it upon herself to start saying "i will eat your soul" in a scary voice. i know its not exactly a video game but its the same kinda thing. she wouldn't have heard that from anywhere else so thats the reason shes saying it.

Well, dear Allieking, your case reminded me, my cousin's... he is younger than your daughter (actually he is three. This December it will be four nice and dangerous years old!!) He's soo sweet and funny, but he's a little bit spoilt... well, quite normal, he's the only child and the youngest in my family!! He loves movies and his favourite is 101 dalmatians, well, the other day he was my aunt and she told him somethg he didnt want to do it, so he said to her: shut up, scoundrel!! hahaha, can you imagine my aunt's face?? hahaha... but, well, analyzing it... For whom was the fault? I think it's no one fault. You cant take your sons and put them in a crystal balloon, away from the world. Besides I know they're too small yet and they dont understand what they say, They just imitate what they listen, they seen... so, in that case, all parents should take care about what their children can absorb (everybody say children as sponges) but not to be a hard guardians. they have to learn to fly by themselves!!

Anywhere between 11 and 13 is a good age for a child to start watching more subtle violence, not necassarily a Quentin Tarentino flick but something like Spawn or Batman (comic violence). Any younger than that they are still absorbing what they hear/see/experience, personally at the ages I have mentioned I think what parents have taught them is instilled enough for them to know the difference between fantasy and reality...of course this depends a lot on parents and what they focus on teaching their child (moral, ethics, basic right/wrong), raising a child is no longer easy mainly because we (as people) feed them excuses and give them something to say "It was because of that, that's why I did it".

Okay well this is kinda-sorta on topic I guess. It seems to me that its not violence in video games that is bad. Its other stuff that is more influential (illegal street racing is a really big one I have found). At least some people can tell if violence is good or not.

 

Many people don't realize topping out your little 4 banger riced out Honda Civic at 110 MPH is dangerous. In many cases can be more dangerous than violence. I know a lot of people are influence by games (Need For Speed Undground Series, SRS, Juiced, Tokyo Extreme Racer Series, etc.) and go out and try to race cars (I myself am guilty of it since I own a Mustang). I think violence is just has blame put on it since there is so much violence in the world, but I think there is stuff more influential than violence in video games. Personally I think other things (news, propaganda, etc.) is a lot more influential cause at least they give a reason to be violent.

 

I know your probaly think what I said was confusing but try to understand since I didn't say it clearly.

Yea with the whole racing, We do a lot of burnouts and shit around here and I mean I know it really wasn't popular until games like NFS, Juiced, and movies like FandF came out.

Actually quite a few of them have rather high IQ's and are quite intelligent, it's not about intellect it's about the ability to differ from right and wrong which has to do a lot with how the person(s) was raised. For the most part they believe they can do whatever they want because in thier minds society has done so much wrong to them, even then most of the violence isn't attributed to video games or media violence (or at least cannot be proven) most of it is centered around drugs and medication which depending on the medication and dosage a lot have adverse effects.

But seriously, I love his point that...in the end...parents are always the ones raising thier kids and if a kid ends up screwed up, it is generally the parents' fault. That is my belief.
