It's not just in America, so I don't think banning guns will have much of an effect.

Like a few years ago in Scotland, that man shot a load of little primary school kids and their teacher... even though guns are illegal over here it doesn't stop shootings happening.

i still love you, girl from mars.

you have to admit though that the States have more total gun deaths than any other country on record in the western world (at least)

according to Bowling for Columbine it's 11000+, while in for example Japan it's 39

if you adjust the figures to "per person" instead of just total, it's still way higher

I guess, guns can be used to protect, but they are also used in things like this... and I doubt a shopkeeper will have an easy time identifying good guys from bad..

I'd be all for it and everything, but I'm actually not sure gun restrictions would solve the problem, I mean look at drugs...

and in europe in places where guns are banned, the bad guys still just hook themselves up with guns

however...restrictions would mean that for school shootings it would be harder to obtain a mass amount of guns and ammo (-> columbine), and kids won't find guns in their homes and bring them to school and shoot other kids (flint)

I think mental status just needs to be checked more often, since theres at least 10 guns in my living room, and I'm not shooting up my school

of course

just take canada...about as many guns per person, but practically no gun murders, at least not on a regular basis, if I remember Bowling right

im sure u guys know this kid, the killer, hes mentally disturbed. but i think...i don't hate him. theres more to his story than him just being a crazy fuck. i dont think you guys should call him names just yet.

Yeah I can understand he was mentally unstable etc, but that opposed to killing 32 innocent people doesn't really balance out in my opinion.

No one is saying what he did was right, but I'm saying calling him names like Bastard, Freak, ect. It's just not right.

It's kind of ironic that this happened, because just recently the drama club at my school (in Canada) had been putting on a play called "Bang, Bang, You're Dead" all over different schools and theatres. The play is about school shootings, and how this one kid offs 5 of his schoolmates. It takes place in jail where he's haunted by the ones he's killed, and he looks back on what he's done and realizes what a huge mistake he's made, but he can't take any of it back.

It's really, really good play and I think it teaches a really valuable lesson. Even before the shooting in Virginia, a lot of people wanted to do this play because many of us feel so strongly about this issue. It just goes to show what this world is coming to.

There was a research a they found out that these shootings actually happen with this copy-cat reaction thing. When one person do it, the other ones who are disturbed or whatever get this courage to do it. Then more and more people will do it. But this is really sad. Innocent people are dying because of these people who are not accepted by their fellow peers or being picked on or whatever. It's not like it's only the killer's fault, because everything has a chain reaction. And the ones not understanding him or picking on him are responsible too.

EDIT: also some person told me that the legal age to buy a gun in Virginia was like 12. I'm not so sure, I thought it was 16, but that's still pretty young to buy a gun. If people couldn't get guns that easily, then I guess stuff like this might not happen so easily.
