Toxic1 Posted May 23, 2007 Author Posted May 23, 2007 It's drawing with Battles, I have to agree Boxer is a magnificant piece of work! Battles is the band I been tooting n thats doing the business too! Despite being a wacky lot Yeah, I remembered I gave you that Battles album awhile back. A couple of years when I saw them I was wondering when they were going to finally put out a regular LP. Glad you like it. I kind of cooled off on it lately. Battles = instant pleasure with inevitable loss of desire . The National = constant grower (with every release). Painstaking details musically and lyrically slowly unfold and hit ya with every listen. They are like a fine wine that gets better with time. Looks like as of now, Boxer has taken the lead on Metacritic with an 89. I hope it sticks. I don't think its fair to count the overrated and minimalist "The Field". It's been out for awhile with only 10 reviews. Anyhow, this is what Alligator should've gotten if certain review sites didn't blow their load off of one half-hazard listen. Kinda like what Pitchfork did. Now Pitchfork and company are trying to make up for their wrongdoings, by praising Alligator in their Boxer reviews. Funny shit. Another thing to think about is the "Mistaken For Strangers" single b-sides "Black Slate" and "Santa Clara" are even better than most of the tracks on Boxer IMO. They are up there with my favourites at least. Don't know why they weren't included on the album. As of right now, I've been racking up listens on Boxer and Cherry Tree EP like nothing else as of late. Hey Stenners, how come no mention of Boxer when I was hyping it earlier in the thread before all the reviews poured into metacritc? :-/ Quote
Stenners Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 CAUSE i didnt get it till like 2 days ago (as in 'Get' it) I didnt like it too much i never was into it so I put it into my ituneees playlist n left it on shuffle n simply refused to skip the national songs till it 'got' it. I got it =) now i listend to the album 3 times in 1 day! Siiiiiiiiiide note on pitchfork........ reading their reviews is like hearing an indie geek wank off they are farrrr to up their ass i find. Quote Delete my account, the is no reason why it should be against standard procediure, do it do it do it. Or LPF Sessions 3 leaks before it's done and Spoilers will be posted for every film release. Not to mention periodic troll invasions.
Toxic1 Posted May 23, 2007 Author Posted May 23, 2007 As of right now, Cherry Tree EP=Alligator>Boxer>>>Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers>>>>>>>>>>>>(Self-titled) There is hardly anything for me lately that can rival the 3 song stretch of Dolled Up In Straps, Cherry Tree, and About Today. And it's hard not to go back and ROCK OUT to Alligator when Boxer brings you down. Same thing with the rocking stuff on Sad Songs. Like I said before, the best thing on the new album is the DRUMS. Weird how certain things like that come to the forefront. Atmosphere and arrangements come in 2nd. Quote
littleblackstone Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 well, back to the main question.. LP for me!!!!! SAY WHAT YOU WANT!!!!!!!!!! Quote
Toxic1 Posted May 23, 2007 Author Posted May 23, 2007 well, back to the main question.. LP for me!!!!! SAY WHAT YOU WANT!!!!!!!!!! The main question has been discussed all along. The best American band currently is The National. And now Metacrtitic seems to be backing up this notion I had all along. But it's fine that your choice is LP. So discuss why with more than zero details. Quote
Friðbjörn Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 toxic weren't you talking about the best american band, as in the best one with a real US spirit or grasp of the nationality or something? just to clarify a bit I dunno if they really capture it, but my fave right now is At the drive-in Quote [broken External Image]:http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/2784/lpfas08mostintelligentym8.jpg

Toxic1 Posted May 24, 2007 Author Posted May 24, 2007 The National is pretty good, but I wouldn't say they're the best Currently I think they are. I've already described in detail why throughout the thread. So my argument can definitely hold water. I've also seen "best American band" describing them as of late in a few publications and blogs in recent past. It's obvious that they'll most likely get the most votes on the end of year lists and probably alot of #1 spots if Metacritic is any indication. Not too many American bands currently can rival their songwriting except: Animal Collective Grizzly Bear Okkervil River These bands I do prefer more. But until their new ones leak this year, I can't put 'em at the top spot. Remember what Fri was re-clarifying earlier: The best one with a real US spirit or grasp of the nationality or something. Stllmn8j Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Ok then...I was kinda going on if they were my favorite american band Quote
