Don't get me started on luiguistics and semantics and semiology! I just did a 1700 word essay on all three and I fucking hate that subject. The lecturer makes an ass of himself on purpose, but put me in a room with a bunch of VIS101 huggers/nerds and I will kill them all.

Err...edit button being gay. I don't know why it was only like 15 minutes ago that post.

~

It was the same day, but the only difference was that Sarah hadn’t seen Matt since this morning and Ravyn, despite the lack of her disappearance from the hospital, hadn’t seen or deliberately stirred up Azem. Ravyn had to be in today. She had gotten a phone call from the medical tribunal this morning asking if they could review her case today.

Ravyn thought it was Tarja or Meg playing a stupid joke on her until she realised who she was talking to, the head of the tribunal council. Ravyn stood in front of the timetable whiteboard as various members of staff came up to it several times and rubbed out their names, only to be replaced by the proceeding member of staff who was timetabled to work so and so hours.

Rob saw a small figure standing in front of the whiteboard, all clad in a black business suit. He wasn’t sure if it was Ravyn or not. He didn’t get a chance to get his morning coffee because half of the appliances in his house short circuited and managed to stuff themselves up. Rob walked over to the figure, as his keys swung from side to side off his pants.

“Hi…” Rob trailed off in his sentence not sure who he was going to introduce himself to. Ravyn turned around. “I didn’t recognise you for a sec.”

“Looks can be deceiving,” replied Ravyn, smiling a little bit. “Sorry about my sudden disappearance yesterday. I just wasn’t thinking properly and I was just all over the place.” Ravyn was waiting for the unimpressed look to appear on Rob’s face. “So, how are you today?”

“Bit tired,” answered Rob. “Are you over your little hating quest with Azem?”

“I’m never over that,” muttered Ravyn. “How’s the job been treating you?”

“Shithouse as ever,” answered Rob. “I’m still wondering why you hate Azem so much. He’s actually doing a better job then Grant is. He’s creating better reforms for the hospital. He’s actually trying to get an official paramedics team so half the staff don’t have to double up all the time. And he’s actually threatened to fire both Delson and Bennington if they keep on with their stupidity in both the morgue and in day surgery.”

“I don’t care what you think of him really, I have the historic reason of hating him,” muttered Ravyn, knowing that someday that she’ll have to eventually have to own up to being his ex wife to Rob’s face. Ravyn looked back to the whiteboard to see Sarah standing in front of it. “You look well today Woodlands.”

“That’s a bit weird I don’t feel well today, feel like a piece of shit to be quite honest,” replied Sarah, smoothly, as she rubbed a name off the whiteboard with the edge of her sleeve and replacing it with another one. “I wish Chester would keep this up to date.”

“Why is Chester suddenly in charge of changing the patient’s surgery timetable?” asked Ravyn, a bit annoyed at the fact that someone had given him the privilege of being in charge of timetabling. “Why make him feel superior?”

“Because Azem didn’t like Delson changing it every second time that Azem looked away,” answered Sarah. “I don’t mind this new boss. He’s actually trying to get this hospital’s act together. Unlike Grant, who, by reports, sat at his desk and played blackjack with his imaginary friend.”

“Not even the imaginary world liked Grant that much to be friends with him, so in hell or in heaven, that made no sense, he doesn’t even have any friends,” commented Ravyn. “And kudos for Azem making everyone feel like he’s a nice old soul, and I would rather go drown myself in that frozen lake opposite the hospital then to do anything that man says.”

“You need to go on anti-depressants or sleeping pills or anything to sedate your bitchiness,” recommended Sarah. “You can’t possibly keep this hating act up for the rest of Azem’s reign.”

Ravyn was going to say something but then she realised that the time for her tribunal was in twenty minutes and she wasn’t going to stick around to be fired for good. She rolled her eyes at Sarah who had stopped by now, rubbing people’s names off and replacing them with another. She turned back around gave Rob a peck on the cheek.

“Thanks, I was just waiting for that,” thanked Rob, sarcastically, as he returned her peck on the cheek and started to walk the opposite way that she was directed to from the tribunal. Ravyn left Sarah at the whiteboard and made her way down the other leading hallway that looked like it was never going to end. Maybe it was because of the all new interns crowded up in various spots of the hallway that sent chills down Ravyn’s spine.

Jo was walked past and stopped to talk to Ravyn, but Ravyn pretended not to see Jo, because Jo was being a total suck up to Azem and frankly, anyone who sucked up to that jerk, deserved to be burnt on a stake in the middle of the town square, or so, that was according to Ravyn’s opinion.

Jo pouted as she held several heavy patient charts in her hands. She finally concluded that there was something going in between Azem and Ravyn that made her take it out on everybody else, like whenever she was having a bad day, she took it out on Rob. Jo stopped suddenly as she thought to herself the possibility of…

Is Ravyn cheating on Rob with Azem?

Jo was as stunned as a fish fighting for its life out of water.

“What a convenience, you randomly stop near me,” commented Brad, standing next to her. He had just came out of a surgery where Chester and him were playing music until Tarja had enough and took the CD player away and locked it somewhere. Brad was indeed, trying to retrieve that CD player, by either sucking up to Tarja to get the key, or find out where it is and pick the lock. “Very convenient Joanna.”

Jo tuned back into reality.

“Have you ever had an idea that in the end might end up as the most rational excuse for Ravyn’s behaviour?” asked Jo, looking to Brad. “I think I just found one.”

“Dude, Bennington, Shinoda and I, started our theories a long time ago, it’s time to come back into reality little girl,” answered Brad. “You haven’t heard our theory about how Harris is Sacred Heart’s version of E.T?”

“No, that’s not your theory that’s Gradon’s,” corrected Jo, briskly. “I think it’s just me or something but I think Harris is doubling up when it comes to partners.”

“You mean cheating right?” asked Brad. “How so?”

“You think of why she’s always in a foul mood, she’s unhappy with her relationship with Rob and thus, the amount of times she’s complained about Azem is incredible,” answered Jo, slowly trying to figure out what she meant. “She complains about Rob as well…”

“When she complains, doesn’t that usually figure that Harris doesn’t like the person?” asked Brad. “I don’t know about you, but the way that you’ve concluded your theory on her relationships, it just doesn’t sit with me. But are you dead serious that she’s…cheating on Rob?”

“There’s no possible explanation,” concluded Jo, as Sarah caught her attention as Sarah was fixed on looking at the ground as a means to distract herself from everyone in the hospital that randomly came up and offered their sympathies. Sarah didn’t hesitate to ask the same questions what-the-fuck and who-are-you. “Hey.”

Sarah stopped as she noticed both Brad and Jo were standing right near her walking past.

“I can’t talk right now. I’ve got to be somewhere,” replied Sarah, as she saw Brad and rolled her eyes at him. “Don’t you even start at it, I heard what happened.”

“What happened?” asked Brad, smiling innocently. “I’m such a social butterfly at times I forget things.”

“Don’t worry, I don’t have the time to talk to a teenager right now,” Sarah brushed Brad off, as she smiled to both individuals and walked away.

“I still can’t but to think that I know Sarah from somewhere, I’ve said it from the first day I met her, I’ve seen her somewhere but I don’t know where and when,” muttered Jo to herself but Brad heard it and gave her a quirky look.

“Are you sure you don’t belong in the nutter house?” asked Brad. “The only place I’ve seen Sarah outside of work and other places, is in my dreams.” Jo gave Brad something to carry as she put half of the folders that she was carrying. “You could’ve said something.”

“Carrying on about your little comment about Sarah, in your dreams Delson, and I mean it literally,” replied Jo, starting to walk towards her desk behind the nurse’s desk. Brad followed knowing that Jo would attack him or something for not bringing the files that he was holding to her within twenty-four seconds of her being twenty-two feet away from him. “In your dreams Delson.”

“I know, but you’ve got to think to yourself of how hot she is,” added Brad. “The only reason I’m not going after her is that Bennington would kill me.”

“I don’t see Sarah that way, a, because I am a straight and normal function female, and b, she’s had enough heartbreak for me to have a lesbian crush on her,” retorted Jo. “Now please, this is making me sick this topic.” Jo and Brad arrived behind the nurses’ desk and put the files gently down on the table. Now, Brad was never a person to do things gently, that’s why he was never allowed in the operating room while a life or death situation was occurrent and that’s why no one let Brad give them massages. Last person that received a massage from Brad ended up with bruises on them. Brad let the files drop a metre of two before splattering all over the table. “God, no wonder no one is tolerant of you.”

“Well, we can soon fix that now can’t we?” appeared Azem’s voice out of nowhere. Jo and Brad spun around to see that Azem was right behind them. Azem was actually in the common room, checking the place out for faults. He had a particular thing about hazardous things around the workplace. “Delson, Brad, or whatever you’re called. You know I’m not going to tolerate bullshit behaviour around here, so Bennington and you better get your act together. And as for the Shinoda incident this morning, I really can’t care for adolescents right now. It’s bad enough I have to put up Harris’ smart remarks about me and other people around this joint.”

“How are you finding handling her attitude?” asked Jo, eager to know how long it will be until either one of them snaps.

“A breeze,” answered Azem, as he knew how to bend Ravyn the right way.

“Oh, you won’t be saying that by the end of the week,” assured Brad, smiling at the fact that Azem thought he was this hard-ass bitch that could handle anyone and anything.

“You don’t know me that well kid, so I won’t be saying that, you’re yet to see what I’ve got planned for Harris and her smart ass mouth,” retorted Azem, showing Brad who’s the boss. “I may not have the ability to fire her directly, but I’m pretty high up in the medicine community and I know certain people who can do very powerful things. Like stripping her right to practice for eternity.”

“Nah, Matt’s done that already,” concluded Brad. “I bet when she comes back from that tribunal this afternoon, she won’t be kissing the licence to practice medicine, but she’ll be kissing someone’s ass big time.”

“Shut up Delson,” told Jo, not wanting what he had just said to come true. Ravyn was indeed her living archenemy in the hospital, but she did one hell of a good job of it.

“Ten bucks, she’s lost her licence,”

“Twenty bucks, she’s cheating on Rob,”

“Fifty bucks, she’s going to end up dating Azem,”

The rumours had already started to spread around the hospital about Ravyn. Ravyn wasn’t aware of them nor did she really care of what people thought about her. She sat in the cafeteria, leant over, and hiding her face in her crossed over arms. There was no one else in the cafeteria, thank God, she wasn’t in the mood to socialise, not even with Andrea or throwing abusive comments at any interns that came her way.

She had just appealed to the tribunal, like a dog wanting back its bone. She couldn’t believe it herself, at that several times during the hearing, she felt like dropping down on her knees and beg her heart out. She thought this emotion through. She didn’t want to be away from the bustling of the hospital corridors in the earliest hours of the morning. She didn’t want to be away from the annoying interns…oh wait, yes she did. She didn’t want to be in a workplace where Rob wasn’t readily available to be her complaint machine for a couple of pointless minutes. Someone had came and sat down in front of her. She hoped to the heavens that it wasn’t Azem. She looked back up for a split second, groaned, and then re-buried her head. Now she realised that hoping to the heavens did nothing but screw her over each time she hoped for something not to happen.

“Someone’s a loner and most probably a goner,” said Azem, blankly. “I heard about your case.”

“Is it too much for me to ask for you to leave me alone for just once in my already painful life?” asked Ravyn, raising her head and sitting back in her chair properly. “I’m waiting on the news that tells me I can still think you’re spilling bullshit no matter what people think about your stupid hospital reforms.”

“I thought when I ran into you for the first time in this hospital, just yesterday, I thought you were the same old woman that divorced me,” started Azem, but Ravyn interrupted him.

“Don’t base your conclusions on assumptions,” interrupted Ravyn. “My life’s already a bitch without you and your fancy ass coming back into it and fucking everything and everyone up in the process to your glorification as the person that gave a fuck about this hospital.”

“I thought you were the still the same sweet old woman I married…” Azem carried on.

“Yeah, the one that had enough of our marriage and left, I’m not sweet so don’t even think that for one minute,” interrupted Ravyn. “I’m not sure if you’re aware of it, but what you did to me was way out of line and I do consider myself a survivor of your massive bullshit that you somehow channelled into attacking me.”

“And do you have any physical and substantial proof to hold that against me?” challenged Azem, crossing his arms in disbelief.

“Go ask Andrea, she was there when I was admitted to the psyche ward because I was too afraid to leave you and I was afraid what you were going to do to me if I did eventually leave you,” answered Ravyn, as a person came over to her. It was a member of the tribunal. Ravyn diverted her attention to the woman that was clad in an Irish green suit. “Hi.”

“Hi, sorry about the wait,” apologised the woman, as Ravyn noticed the envelope in her hands. “We’ve got the result from the hearing and it’s in this. Enjoy.” The woman handed Ravyn the envelope and for once, Ravyn showed her gratitude by a simplistic smile. Well, it wasn’t just the once she’s given that sort of smile to, it’s just very rare to see it upon her face and being in the hospital at the same time. The woman left Azem and Ravyn, sitting at the table.

Ravyn ripped open the envelope and pulled out the white piece of paper. Her eyes lite up as she skimmed through the words with her eyes.

“So, is this hospital just part of your resume or do I have to put up with more of your stupid bullshit?” asked Azem, hoping the first option would come true. Ravyn showed him the piece of paper. “God damn. I hate the tribunal. I was getting my hopes up that you leaving would teach you a valid lesson.”

“It’s amazing what new hope and opportunities medical licences give you, especially renewed ones,” gloated Ravyn, putting her licence back into the envelope still with a gloating smirk on her face.

“Look at you now, all big and fancy that you’ve gotten your licence back, stop gloating, only losers gloat,” retorted Azem.

“You’ve taught me well, Azem,” reminded Ravyn. “Just, put it this way, if it wasn’t for you and you trying to harden me during our marriage, I would never be like this. So the only person you’ve got to blame for my attitude adjustment problem is yourself.”

“I never made you anyway,” defended Azem. “You choose what you choose to be in life and don’t say to me that you never had a choice.”

“Yeah I had a choice, and that choice eventually ended up being, me leaving you,” argued Ravyn, as she stopped with the envelope situation. “Again, the only person you’ve got to blame is yourself. So don’t go around and trying to readjust my attitude because it’s a take it or leave it situation. You don’t like me, fine; I’m okay with that, cos, after our marriage, I will be fucked to the Gods up above if I ever end up back in your arms. I know what you’re capable of, and I’m most angry at the fact that you put on a nice and smooth man façade. People are going to start seeing straight through you and look at you as the man that I divorced.”

Ravyn got to her feet, while Rob stood in the hallway leading into the cafeteria, where he’d been for the past ten minutes listening to the bitch fest that was going on between Ravyn and Azem. She collected the envelope and walked towards Rob’s way. Azem smirked and sat where he was. Ravyn was in such a angry spit about Azem’s attitude towards things, that she completely didn’t see Rob leaning against the wall and walked straight past him.

Rob quickly caught up to her and grabbed her by the arm, startling Ravyn, as Ravyn had thought Azem just caught up with her just then.

“Let me go A…” she trailed off in her speech, as she realised that it wasn’t Azem, but it was Rob. “Hi. Sorry I didn’t see you. Good news, they’ve given back my licence, all within two working days of being suspended.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?” asked Rob, in a more serious tone then Ravyn had expected.

“I did tell you, in fact you were the first person that I had told,” answered Ravyn.

“No, not about that, you could’ve just left me instead of doing that, it’s despicable Ravyn,” Rob found it hard to put it into a sentence without completely going off at her.

“What…?” asked Ravyn. “I’m lost. You mean about me and Azem? I didn’t want to tell you.”

“Of course you didn’t! That’s why I had to hear it from another source and not from you!” snapped Rob. “That’s why it hurts as it does; I had to hear it from another source and not from you directly. I’m ready to kill someone Ravyn, I really am.”

“Kill Azem not me, I didn’t do anything,” recommended Ravyn.

“Of course you did something, it takes two to tango Ravyn!” snapped Rob, letting go of her arm and starting to walk backwards, away from Ravyn. “That’s it. It’s off. The whole relationship thing we were aiming for, it’s off completely. I can’t be with someone who says they are in love with me and two minutes later they run off with someone else while trying to pretend that they love me.”

“What…no…Rob…that’s not it…God no…” Ravyn found it hard to find the words, as Ravyn thought he must’ve heard a rumour off someone and wasn’t obviously listening to what the conversation was really about. “Rob, please don’t go. It’s not what you think. Please.”

Rob ignored her and continued to ignore her desperate pleas to come back. Ravyn didn’t even see the point of trying to run after him. He wouldn’t listen and she couldn’t find the words to defend herself. Rob was angry and he knew someone’s blood will be spilt tonight.

WTF?! *cries* Noo!! Rob dumped me because of a stupid rumour? Because he misconstrued the situation? What the hell was he doing just standing there eavesdropping for anyway? And why do I get the impression Azem's more comfortable with this than he should be? Did he start that crap in Jo's ear or something? What the hell is wrong with that man? *wants to stomp off in a huff but doesn't cause it's just a story after all haha*

Well... happy as larry I got my job back. Bet the ones I torture everyday aren't as happy. And now that you and I seem to have met some sort of common ground I get the impression our similar pasts may work in strengthening that tenuously budding relationship. Good to hear. Also glad I got a glimpse too of the past history, I mean, after Sarah's flashback I must have been in flashback mode (not the easiest of things to write depending) so good to get an idea where Azem and I went wrong... and funny to see he's still in denial about it. Or maybe I am. I dunno, we're both a tad screwed up and angry I gather. Must have made for a damned happy household once *lmfao*

WWIII !!!

So now you've dropped the bomb on Rob of sorts I wonder where this will go. If the hospital's reeling over rumours I can only imagine what they're gonna come up with now I'm back again. Haha, Grant couldn't get rid of me and neither could Azem. Kewl. And I take it by this prelude to more drama and angst (just the way we writers like it ;)) I assume Sarah and Matt will also take a downward nosedive soon, no? Kinda wondering... Viking's around, Matt's a bit stressed - and Chester's really starting to become a concern. Man's gone from teenager to walking dark-cloud all over losing you. I hope he doesn't completely lose it. Seems a nice guy, really. I think you should just give him another chance, just my personal opinion... but then again, last thing Ava needs is a teenage-type as a father-figure.

Well. I rant.

Enjoyed.

Look forward to more laters. Thanks again and sleep well.

Mike yawned. It was the dead of the night and he was ready to knock at Sarah’s door for some reason. He perfectly knew the reason but he just couldn’t be bothered to be awake to remember it.

Chester had called him some fifteen minutes ago to go and get Sarah and meet at the park downtown. Mike thought Chester was trying to set up a fight between them. That was until Chester had told him that Rob’s after either Ravyn or Azem, and it’ll be a double whammy if he gets both. Chester didn’t have Ravyn’s number to start with. Didn’t feel like he had a need to and he didn’t want Azem’s number for a number of reasons that were made up of letters with symbols being placed in the middle of the word as they had replaced the deliberately missed out letters.

Mike knocked. Nothing happened.

Mike knocked again. Something did happen. Mike was expecting Sarah to open the door, as it was Sarah’s house.

“Matt…” Mike trailed off in surprise of Matt’s presence, especially in a singlet and boxer shorts. “Where’s Sarah?” Matt stretched as he was fighting to adjust to the brightness of the outside security light.

“Asleep, like everyone else at this time of the morning,” croaked Matt. “Like I was, on the couch. Do you wanna come in or something man? Cos the heater’s been on for the last forty-eight hours and I made sure that it remained that way. I just don’t want the cold air to come in, it’s bad enough I have to share a house with a three year old that’s tall enough to reach and turn the door handle every three minutes I turn my back on her.” Mike nodded slowly as he accepted Matt’s invitation to come on in. Matt turned on the hallway light, as he closed the front door behind Mike. “What do you want at this time of the morning with Sarah?”

“Some shit’s going to happen real bad if I don’t get Ravyn’s number real soon,” Mike started to reply but figured that he should stop while he was ahead of himself. He had heard very nasty stories about Matt and wasn’t sure if he should be trusted. “Just get her up please.”

Ava started to cry upstairs in her room. Matt screwed his face up and groaned. Ava had been having crying episodes all night because of her toothache and Sarah forced Matt to deal with it every time. The sound of Sarah’s bedroom door was now apparent, and footsteps followed, along with the opening of Ava’s door which emphasised the cries of the three year old in pain.

“Sarah,” said Matt, as he realised that he wasn’t going to be forced to be the father to Ava he had never intended to be in the first place.

“I’ve got it under control, don’t worry,” replied Sarah from upstairs, as she held Ava in her arms. The child buried its head in her chest, as Sarah’s maternal instincts came into play. Sarah patted her child on the back and started to swing from side to side softly, that she hoped the swinging motion would calm Ava down. “Matt. Do you know where Ava’s pain killers are by any chance? I couldn’t find them last night. Are we out of it already?”

“I don’t know,” answered Matt. “Too many questions, and too early to answer them all. Hey Sarah, you wanna come down, Mike’s at the door.”

“What? At this time?” asked Sarah, trying to keep her voice down, as Ava started to hyperventilate. Sarah hushed Ava some more. “Tell him to come here. I can’t come down right now.”

“Fine,” sighed Mike, as Matt went back to the couch in the next room and fell asleep on the couch where he felt like he slept better on it then in the guest bedroom. Mike trotted up the stairway which Sarah was ready to kill him for, because of the racket her was making with his heavy footsteps against the stairs. Mike stood in the doorway of Ava’s room to see Sarah holding a small child wrapped up in an oversized pink blanket under a dim light illuminating the room.

“Yes, Michael, what is so important that you had to come around right now?” asked Sarah, knowing that calling him by his full name would annoy him. “I have a child who is in pain and overtired to deal with on top of working.”

“How about someone’s life is in danger?” asked Mike, as he leant against the frame of the doorway. “Does that count?”

“Who’s?” asked Sarah, a bit shocked, as she felt Ava starting to move within the blanket.

“Mummy,” said Ava, as she popped her head out from the covers. Sarah’s attention was back on Ava.

“Yes,” replied Sarah, still wiry.

“Ouchies,” complained Ava, as Sarah noticed that she was still hyperventilating.

“What ouchies?” asked Sarah, a bit confused.

“Tummy,” answered Ava, as Sarah looked as Ava’s pain was now reflected in her ever clear Matt-like emerald eyes. Sarah removed the blankets from her around her child and pushed Ava’s pyjama top up so that she could see her belly.

It looked like thousands of tiny little insects just had a stampede over her stomach. Sarah pushed her top even more and the rash was all over her chest as well.

“Jesus fucking God, Ava, why didn’t you tell me?” asked Sarah, as she realised what she had just said in front of a three year old that picks up language like dust being attracted to furniture left alone over time.

“I’m sorry,” answered Ava, as Sarah put her top back to its original state, wrapped Ava back up again, and got up from her seat with Ava still in her arms.

“I have to go sorry Mike, I’ve got to get Ava to the hospital I think she’s having an allergic reaction to something,” apologised Sarah to Mike, who kinda pieced together what was happening, slowly.

“Look, before you go, can I have Ravyn’s number?” asked Mike. “Just say, something happened between her and Rob and now Rob’s like a savage dog let loose on its chain.”

“It’s in my cell downstairs,” answered Sarah, walking past Mike. Mike followed her down the stairs and into the entrance hallway. Sarah stopped at an antique side table near the door. She turned to Mike who had stopped behind her. “Can you do me, a huge favour and hold Ava for me please? Just, be careful not to touch her stomach.” Mike rolled his eyes as he held out his arms flat, as Sarah grinned with acceptance and gave Mike Ava.

“Hello,” Ava said to Mike, as Sarah turned back around and started to rummage through her bag on top of the side table. “My name’s Ava.”

“Hello, I’m Mike,” replied Mike, with a stupid smile and Sarah quickly saw that stupid smile. “Nice to meet you little lady.”

“God, the rumours are true, you do act like a three year old,” muttered Sarah to herself, as she found her cell and started to go through the phonebook. “Here. I’ll give you her number if you give me back my child.”

“Deal done,” replied Mike, as he handed Ava back to Sarah. Sarah awkwardly gave her cell to Mike which Ava was lying on. Mike took the phone and brought out his phone.

“Bye Mike,” said Ava.

Mike smiled and looked up from his cell.

“Bye little lady Ava,” replied Mike. He started to punch in Ravyn’s number on his phone. He knew that time was wasting away and that someone will not be attending work that coming morning.

“Matt wake up,” ordered Sarah, looking towards the limp figure nearby.

“I wasn’t even asleep with the racket you guys were making,” replied Matt, from the living room. “What?”

“Ava’s having an allergic reaction to something, we’ve got to take her to the hospital, and I need someone to drive me there,” answered Sarah.

“Can’t it wait when it’s daylight?” asked Matt. “I’m not a good night time driver.”

“Do you want me to run you down, after I make this phone call?” asked Mike, volunteering for the job that Matt in the end will not eventually do.

“Fine, Matt if you won’t do it, Mike will do it,” concluded Sarah, extremely annoyed at Matt’s laziness, especially in a situation like this. Mike put Sarah’s cell on the side table near her bag.

“Just hold on for a sec,” requested Mike, as he opened the door, and went outside to talk to Ravyn.

Damn it you always leave the updates to end on a kind of cliffhanger! Want more damnit! Want to see Rob go mental (if Mike's telling the truth), want to see what Ava's sick from (if it is allergies, poor kid has a bad medical history already, must be genetic ;)), and want to see if Mike and maybe Sarah hook up? Call me crazy but Mike might win Sarah's heart by getting to the child, that's more common than you'd think. And love to see the shistorm if that DID eventuate what with Chas Matt and Mike all sorta keen on her... And yeah... well I wanna know what happens between me, Rob and Azem too! Haha - wow, it's like... we're leading parallel lives here, me and my intern, notice that? Wonder how I could hate you when we're obviously so alike... maybe that's the answer huh? ;) Anyway don't wanna lead you just was thinking aloud that's all. Nice as always, looking forward to more.

Thankies :D

Ok. Last update for tonight. I have to finish my Jan Vermeer's "Girl With a Pearl Earring" and Meg White montage piece of shit thing. God damn it's the most randomnest piece of shit I've done.

~

The doorbell went off and then the cell started to ring.

She didn’t know which one she should answer first. Ravyn picked up her cell to see who was calling. A number appeared. But her cell didn’t recognise the number. She hesitated for a second.

Which one would most likely be Rob? She asked herself in a rush.

She picked up.

“Ravyn?” asked a panicked voice on the other end of the phone.

“Shinoda?”

Oh God. Ravyn thought to herself.

“Well no it’s not, it’s God. Of course it’s Shinoda.” Mike rolled his eyes, as sat down on Sarah’s steps leading up to her house. “You have to do me a favour. Don’t answer the door until morning.”

“Why not? And why should I start listening to you? And how the hell did you get my number?” Ravyn was annoyed at the fact that she had gotten her hopes up thinking that it was Rob coming back to grovel at her feet and admitting that Ravyn was right about him not seeing the total picture.

“Just say, when you see a ‘Beware of the Dog’ sign on a property, don’t enter the property,” Mike knew he wasn’t making such sense, Mike didn’t care right now. He did in a way.

“You’re making no sense,”

The doorbell went off again.

“Did I just hear your doorbell go off?”

“Well at least I know you’re not deaf, but totally a complete idiot in general,”

“Don’t answer the door, I don’t care if it’s the Dalai Lama at your door, don’t,”

“Why?”

“You know that little spit that Rob chucked at you today?”

“Wow. This hospital is outrageously fast for the rumour mill is now a bullet train. How the hell did you find out about that in such a short manner of time?”

“I just know, I got your number off Sarah who right now is yelling at Matt for being an idiot,”

“Nothing new,”

The doorbell went off again. The person on the other side of it was getting frustrated. The person could hear Ravyn speaking and not answering the door was getting to the point where the person just wanted to kick down the door.

“You’re not answering it,”

“And who are you exactly to tell me what to do?”

“I’m the person that is trying to tell you, not to answer the door. God dammit.”

“And I’m gonna be the person that hangs up on you,”

Ravyn hanged up on him, tossing her phone onto a nearby table as she yawned and went to answer the door. Before Mike had called Ravyn was ready for bed. She stopped in front of the front door and opened the front door up.

It was so complex and hard to understand. There was another figure alongside the dark shadowy figure that she assumed had been knocking at her door. The security lights were turned off which made it harder to see. There were sounds, various of them. She couldn’t recognise either figure because they had just randomly gone into a split second tussle. Ravyn stood back, she wanted to slam the door…she just didn’t know what to do.

Snap.

Someone just got a couple of bones broken.

Thump.

Someone’s gone down hard on the ground.

Ravyn slammed the door shut. She slid down the back of it and thought to herself what had just happened. She was confused.

She stood back up and re-opened the door.

“I thought he was Azem,” growled Rob’s dark voice. Ravyn opened the door even more to see Rob sitting on Chester’s limp body.

“Holy shit,” concluded Ravyn.

Sarah carried Ava into a ward and laid her down on the bed, unwrapping her child from under the pink blankets that she wrapped. Mike had followed Sarah into the hospital as he had found no point trying to help Ravyn for she wouldn’t listen to a thing he would say. Ava had started to black out in Sarah’s arms in the elevator.

“Go get Andrea or Joss, please,” requested Sarah, as Mike nodded and ran out of the hallway. It was panic time and Sarah didn’t even know what was going on. Ava was in shock or something, but she couldn’t guess from what. Ava had lost consciousness now and Sarah panicked even more. She didn’t know that Ava was allergic to anything, nor did she show any signs of allergies when she was younger. “Ava. Can you hear me?” No response from the limp child. Joss and Andrea barged in and told Sarah to leave, but the reality of it was that Sarah didn’t want to leave her only child. Sarah had done this to many people in the time that she had started her internship at the hospital. She had deliberately isolated relatives from their loved ones. She never thought she would be one of them to be isolated. Mike crept up behind Sarah, and dragged her away from the ward. Mike sat her down a couple of corridors away from where Ava laid. Sarah felt empty and helpless.

She knew how it felt. Matt had done that to her several times. And the last thing she wanted to do is to become accustomed to it again. Sarah looked at the opposite wall. Mike sat down next to her and embraced her in a side-on hug, as he saw a tear fall down her tired face.

“She’ll be okay, I bet it’s nothing,” assured Mike. Sarah looked at him unimpressed by his attempt to re-assure her that her daughter wasn’t already on the verge of death or an incurable disease like cancer.

“She hasn’t broken into a rash ever before and she has certainly not past out before,” objected Sarah. “She would’ve told me if it was a consistent rash. Even if I accidentally put her top on backwards she makes a ten minute scene out of it.” Mike looked at her, thinking wether or not that was a real example or just a hypothetical situation. “She’s like me in personality, but sadly not enough of me in her appearance. She cannot shut up sometimes.”

“Yeah, just like you,” muttered Mike to himself. Sarah heard it but chose to ignore it. “Look, Andrea and Joss are trying to do their best. I wonder where Bennington is, he was supposed to call me by now.” Mike looked to the clock on the wall. It was two in the morning, exactly. “Unusual not to hear from him by now. I think I was supposed to meet him near the park near Harris’ place.”

“What went down?” asked Sarah, remembering something about how Mike wanted her number and how he wouldn’t give her a decent explanation about the whole wanting her number thing. “I mean, it consists of contacting her outside of work hours, in which, I know I shouldn’t do by her laws, but it was just there for emergencies.”

“I don’t know, Delson accidentally ran into Bourdon yesterday afternoon and Bourdon was furious, it looked like he wanted snap,” answered Mike, he knew he was lying and he didn’t want to tell Sarah right now the real story. “You should go ask Delson not me. In fact, go ask Bourdon right now, he should be on roster now.” There was something that Mike wanted to say to Sarah, but he was sure this wasn’t the right time, so he just kept it to himself. “How old is Ava?”

“Three in a couple of months,” answered Sarah softly as she started to think the worse for her daughter. There were rapid footsteps coming towards Mike and Sarah. They both looked to see who was coming to shatter the peacefulness of the corridor. Andrea. “She better have good news.”

“Don’t say that, you’ll end up with the opposite,” replied Mike, as Andrea came nearer. “I have a good feeling that she has good news.”

“Shinoda, leave us,” ordered Andrea, as she approached the pair. Mike rolled his eyes. “That’s not a request that’s an order.”

“Whatever you can say to me you can say to him,” replied Sarah, softly.

“It’s not that,” started Andrea, as she stopped in front of them and put her hands in her coat pockets. “Have you ever wondered why Bennington never really ends up fighting you in the basketball courts?”

“Because I’m stronger and he knows I can and will kick his ass,” answered Mike, bluntly. “You’re point is again?”

“Bennington’s come in and he’s downstairs with multiple fractures, he looks fairly beaten up,” answered Andrea. “Now, the reason why I want you to leave is that Azem has put you on surgery with Bennington being the manikin you operate on. He’s been beaten up badly.”

Mike snorted with laughter.

“Bennington bit off more then he could chew,” commented Mike, as he got to his feet. He turned around and faced Sarah. “Hope everything is okay. Do you want a lift back?”

Sarah shook her head.

“Shift starts in a couple of hours, may as well start it early,” answered Sarah, as Mike smiled and walked off. Andrea replaced Mike in his chair next to Sarah. “Let me guess, my child has cancer or something?”

“Not cancer, thank god, more heartbreak for you, but yeah, she doesn’t have the flu if that’s what you’re wondering,” answered Andrea, sighing shortly after finishing her sentence but continued to talk anyway. “But our prognosis is that, she may have contracted something quite serious and she’s had a very bad reaction to the virus.”

“Anything in particular?” asked Sarah.

“We can’t tell right now, Joss is going to run off some blood tests now, and in a couple of hours we should know what’s wrong with her,” answered Andrea, patting Sarah on the back. “It’s not your fault.”

“I know,” replied Sarah, blankly. “But strangely enough, I hear people on a daily basis saying it is their fault, despite the fact they don’t even know that they had no control over it whatsoever.”

“Sometimes you have to bleed in this place just to even know if you’re alive,” said Andrea, blankly. “It’s the harsh reality of hospitals. That’s why we have morgues and keep idiots like Bennington and Delson away from them. Hey, talking of Bennington, did you hear what happened to him?”

Sarah noticed a serious tone with Andrea’s last sentence. Sarah was now afraid that Chester was still carrying on like an emotional wreck, jumped off a cliff, and failed in his attempts at his own riddance of his life.

“Oh god, what happened?” asked Sarah, a bit concerned.

“I don’t know, there are three versions of the evening, already going around and apparently it’s only happened in the last two hours,” answered Andrea. “Well, I can’t keep on being an eccentric chatterbox. Got a job to do. Why don’t you go home for a couple of hours and get some shuteye? I don’t start until eight.”

“Yeah, I’ll catch a cab home, Mike drove me here,” replied Sarah, concluding that she better start getting home and try to move on from Ava’s little episode and try to motivate that ex of hers to get a job. She got to her feet and Andrea did so as well.

“She’ll be ok, I’ll give you a ring if anything major happens,” soothed Andrea, as she gave Sarah a hug and walked off.

Sarah retraced her steps back to Ava’s ward. She wouldn’t be there. She would somewhere else but Sarah went back to check that Ava was okay or not. And if she happened to be there, it’ll be something positive for Sarah, for she wasn’t getting any positive things happening in her life right now. She stopped in the frame of the doorway and looked around. She saw Joss at a small child’s side. Joss saw Sarah and smiled.

“She’s okay, don’t worry right now,” comforted Joss, as Sarah walked over to Ava in her bed. She was awake. She drew up a seat and sat next to her daughter. She saw the fright in her daughter’s eyes and she saw the confusion as well. “She’s handling it pretty well. We’ve had kids come in and once they’ve woken up they started screaming and bringing the whole hospital into total chaos and panic. She’s been quiet. She woke up about seven minutes ago.”

“Don’t ever do that to Mummy ever again,” said Sarah to Ava. “You scared Mummy pretty badly.”

“Sorry,” replied Ava, as Sarah was trying her hardest not to break down again. “Don’t cry.”

“I won’t,” agreed Sarah, as Sarah got back up from her seat. She even thought to herself why she had pulled up a seat in the first place if she knew she couldn’t be around Ava right now. “Mummy’s going to go now. She has to get back to Daddy.”

“Bye,” dismissed Ava, automatically.

Sarah sighed and left the ward without another word being spoken from her mouth. She walked down the corridor with the only sounds were her own footprints. She stopped at the elevator, looked up to see where it was, she just wanted to sleep when she really thought about it.

“Hello again,” said Mike on her side. Sarah was a bit surprised to see him next to her. She looked over and he wasn’t in his surgeon’s uniform. “I’m late.”

“Makes two of us, I’m late on catching up on sleep,” replied Sarah. “How’s Bennington?”

“Not so good, from what I’ve heard from Tarja and Jo,” answered Mike. “Some idiot cracked his skull open and now it needs to have a plate in it. That’s going to be fun.”

“Sounds like fun,” commented Sarah softly, as the elevator doors opened.

“Ladies first,” offered Mike with a simple gesture of his hand. Sarah smiled and walked in, soon followed by him. Nothing was said until the doors closed in front of them. “I can’t believe Matt chose to sleep rather to see if his own child would be okay, I really cannot.”

“Well, start believing it, it’s the sad reality of it all,” muttered Sarah. “I don’t know why I let him stay at my place.”

“You’re not back together with that prick are you?” asked Mike, as Sarah turned to Mike and looked like she had just been offended on several levels with that one question of his.

“God no!” yelled Sarah. “Just because I want him to turn his life around so that he’ll get out of mine, doesn’t mean we’re back together nor are we planning to get back together, I don’t want a death wish right now Mike.”

The elevator stopped with a sudden jolt and the doors opened to the same level each individual wanted to go. Sarah walked one way and Mike walked the other. But the difference is that Mike stopped and turned around. He stood there contemplating if he really needed to get the issue off his chest with Sarah right now. Mike nodded. Thinking it was the best thing to do, despite the fact that he was late but he didn’t care right now. He ran after Sarah, as Sarah kept on walking, unimpressed by Mike’s actions.

“Do you want me to walk you to your car?” asked Mike, as both parties stopped right in front of the sliding doors. “Just to make sure no one does anything like what Bennington has to deal with right now.”

Sarah smiled and shook her head.

“No thanks, but it was a good suggestion, you should suggest that more often,” answered Sarah. By now, Mike and Sarah had already invaded each other’s personal space and were comfortably close to each other. “Don’t you have to attend to Chester’s mishaps?”

“It can wait,” answered Mike. “I have to tell you something and I’m sorry if the worse was to occur as a direct result of me telling you this. But you have no idea what it feels like not to tell a girl how much you like her, but knowing that she’s gone through enough heartbreak and too many emotions, stops you sometimes. I know this isn’t the perfect time, with Ava and Matt and all that shit currently present, but you deserve so much better and when people tell you that Chester wasn’t worth your time in weight and effort, they are right. I’m sorry Sarah, again, but there have been so many times I just wanted to tell you how much I liked you. I know, you’re an intern and I know I have a reputation to be a player amongst the interns, but I’m not that way towards you, I feel quite strangely different but I like the feel of feeling quite strangely different about you.”

“You could’ve just spared me the whole speech and god damn kissed me like they do in the movies,” replied Sarah, smoothly as she was flattered by Mike’s honesty.

“I’m sorry I had to tell you before I did anything,” apologised Mike. Sarah went red in the ears.

Fuck it, thought Mike as he leant in just god damn kissed the woman. Sarah didn’t hesitate, but she was the one to end it, after accepting Mike’s kiss.

“Well, at least I know with you, you get along with Ava and you oppose both idiots and stupidity,” said Sarah. “I have to go now. I need sleep.”

“Bye,” farewelled Mike, as he gave Sarah a peck on the cheek. Sarah smiled again, walked away, through the sliding doors, and out to the car, as her whole perspective of life just dramatically changed and so did Mike's as demonstrated by the big smile that had just appeared on his face. “Yes!”

Care to explain that?

I got it, you meant Mike. At least I hope you meant Mike... awww...

Speaking of the devil, wow. The man really does have a heart. That line you gave him after he basically bore his soul to you was a Hallmark moment worthy of a mention. Had me all 'awwing' out loud. There ya go, it does happen. And the scene where he's comforting you in the one-armed hug waiting for news on Ava was very sweet too. But sorry I must have missed the diagnosis, what was it again? I didn't quite understand that part. But anyway, I get the gist it's not serious so that's good too. Maybe once she gets better Sarah will have enough backbone to throw Matt out and move forward with Mike - that is if Mike is being genuine. I read that last paragraph and I had an unsettling thought, an 'oh no' moment that had me wondering with some trepidation whether he was actually in love with Sarah or had just won some sort of bet and was cheering that he had "won" her. I hope not for her sake. They'd make a cute couple together and let's face it between the two psychos of Matt and Chas she needs some stability - granted its with a player but hey, people have been known to change before for the right person... aparently. Interesting to see what happens there.

As for Chester... what the hell did Rob do to him?? Christ! I'm starting to wonder if it's a pattern my character's doomed to repeat for falling for these agro guys. I must be a thrill seeker, if Azem's punched into me while we were wed, and Grant got a bit touchy-feely after (I assume) I left Azem, I'm wondering now that Rob's finally snapped his proverbial twig (lets face it, it was probably inevitable being the quiet type and all) if he and I will end up like I and Azem apparently were, and around continues that circle all over again... yay for the drama I suppose. But still raises some rather unsettling questions, like what the hell set Rob off so bad (don't say it was rumors of a non-existent affair, dumbass) and why the hell he didn't realize after the first initial blow that he hadn't hit Azem (I'm assuming that was his target, and again, why the hell was Chas there anyway?? Isn't Azem meant to be a big guy or something? Chas is built like a weed by comparison!) - and more importantly what happened since?!

Waiting as always for more. Very good. :D

That's okay, I got the general gist of who you meant ;) All good.

And as for the song, Sarah, really you could do better. Well each to their own. At the risk of spamming this thread I will say that personally as far as her songs go her earlier stuff was better. Okay not the earliest stuff, but I do like 'beautiful' - meh, each to their own. And I have a very disturbing mental image of you just now writing out the drama of DS listening to Xtina doing her war-cry song. Yowser  Hey if it works for you, why ruin a good thing huh...?

Just for the record I've been listening to a lot of heavier stuff these days. Static-X, White Zombie, and one of my favs Disturbed. Can't ya tell? ;)

Ravyn sat next to Rob outside the hospital where he was holding a coffee and she was empty-handed. It was freezing but it was better than Ravyn feeling that she was going to become claustrophobic inside her own house next to a man that just punched a man out just because he thought the man would be the man that she was supposedly cheating with him on.

Ravyn found it difficult to talk to Rob now. Ravyn didn’t even want to talk to him during the car trip, and that was after Ravyn had calmed Rob down and told him the full story.

“So…are we over our jealous spit?” asked Ravyn. “I still think its bullshit. Why would I cheat on you? I wouldn’t even do, that and if I did do such an immoral thing, I wouldn’t still be with you. I don’t know Rob. The whole knocking out on my front porch to only see it’s my ex boyfriend thing, if you haven’t noticed, but that’s made me double think about ever fixing this fucked up relationship.”

“Ravyn, you know I didn’t intentionally try and knock Chester stone cold,” objected Rob. “We had this discussion back at your place, I did it because I thought it was Azem. And I don’t know what your relationship with him is like now, but I say it again, I heard a rumour about you cheating on me with the new boss, already.”

“I wouldn’t do that, especially with Azem,” assured Ravyn. “If Chester dies you’re up for manslaughter. In fact, you’re already up for malicious assault and causing bodily harm.”

“I know I know,” mumbled Rob. He turned his head to see Sarah walking to her car. “Hey, that’s Sarah isn’t it?”

“Don’t bring her over, I’m not in the mood to be surrounded by melodramas,” requested Ravyn. “Oh wait, I am already in one. So you may as well just invite her over anyway.”

“That’s a bit harsh,” commented Rob. “You need to start treating her better.” Rob was still looking at Sarah. “Sarah!”

Sarah stopped and looked around not knowing who was calling her name. Her eyes fixed on Rob and Ravyn sitting just a couple of metres away from her.

Sarah decided to make a pit stop to her car and come over and make Ravyn’s day a living nightmare, she just knew it her boss loved it in a very unusual way. Ravyn rolled her eyes and looked away.

“It’s bad enough it’s freezing out here,” muttered Ravyn.

“How are you?” asked Sarah, as she approached the fighting couple and stood in front of them.

“Cold,” answered Rob, shortly.

“Pissed off by your presence,” answered Ravyn, bitchily.

“How come you’re here so early?” asked Rob.

“Ava’s had like a seizure or something incredibly not-like Ava,” answered Sarah, she turned to Ravyn. “Did you get Mike’s phone call?”

“Unfortunately yes,” answered Ravyn, as she looked back to Sarah. “Why did you give him my number?”

“Can I tell you later?” asked Sarah, as she noticed Rob’s eyes that had suddenly turned into a pair that one would expect to see on an eagle not on a six-foot something janitor of a hospital. “Some idiot smashed in Bennington’s skull a while ago. Mike was telling me all about it and how much he hates putting plates in people’s heads.”

“What?” asked Ravyn. “Smashed in Bennington’s skull?” Ravyn shot Rob a nasty look. “I wonder what type of idiot could do that much damage.”

“Harris!” yelled Azem’s voice from across the car park. Ravyn rolled her eyes and pretended not to notice Azem’s rude introduction to such a dramatic conversation. “Don’t try to ignore me. You should’ve started an hour ago. Where the fuck have you been?” Ravyn rolled her eyes again.

“Better go before Mr Grumpy starts to declare another world war on me,” answered Ravyn, picking up her bag beside her and walked over to Azem who was standing near the sliding doors that were the entrance to the hospital. “Hold your pants up Azem. God damn you’ve been more incredibly annoying and controlling ever since you got Gallagher’s job.”

“And you haven’t stopped comparing people to historical figures as I’ve been hearing and you haven’t stopped being so small in height but incredibly more of a pain of an ass then ever before,” retorted Azem. “Now when you start showing up to your shifts on time, then I’ll start caring two hoots about you.”

“You never cared two hoots about me, even when we were married,” replied Ravyn.

“Okay, here’s a threat I will fulfil if you don’t start doing what you’re told, I heard demotion scares the shit out of you, that’s exactly what you’ll get if you’re not lucky,” threatened Azem. “Gallagher was too afraid to demote you but I ain’t.”

“Not even Gallagher could get rid of me, let alone you,” retorted Ravyn, as she went inside the hospital to start her shift. She walked up to the elevator and waited among with other people for the elevator. Moments later the doors opened and everyone walked in. Ravyn got to stand next to her favourite person in the world. “Talk to me Melissa, and I will find a way to personally attack you and make you cry.”

Mel stood silent. She hadn’t seen Ravyn around for a while and only wanted to hi to the beast that roamed the hospital, also, in Josh’s terms, E.T.

“Hello yourself Harris,” said Mel, trying to get more on Ravyn’s nerves.

“Don’t you have some ducks to shoot or something other than trying to make a lame attempt at kick starting a conversation that’ll end up with you crying in the end?” asked Ravyn.

“And quit the attitude Harris,” croaked Azem, as Ravyn hadn’t seen Azem standing in wait for the elevator. Ravyn turned around to see him behind her.

“God damn you’re still the sneaky son of a bitch you always were,” retorted Ravyn, as she turned back around.

“One more insult or personal commentary Harris, you’re ass will be so close to that ring of fire also known as the Board of Medicine, that you’ll be watching where you put that gasoline can you’ve got in your hands, also known as your mouth,” threatened Azem. “Even one complaint from even an intern, and I will make sure you never set foot in this hospital again, even as a patient.”

“Good luck, asshole,” replied Ravyn, as the elevator came to a stop and the doors opened. Everyone started to rush out. “And by the way Azem, I’m not afraid of you no more. I’m no one’s bitch.”

“That’s it Harris, you’ve been warned, don’t come to work tomorrow,” concluded Azem.

“Yay, three day weekend,” muttered Ravyn to herself as she exited the elevator and she was becoming to get close to the point where she just wanted to embarrass the shit out her ex husband in front of everyone in the elevator. He had no effect on her now whatsoever and Ravyn was really looking forward to that three day weekend that Azem had just given her.

Haha - Oh I bet Azem is loving that attitude since everyone else in this place is so in fear of it...

But poor Rob - and poor Chester! I repeat though, what the hell was he doing there anyway idiot? He hates me like everyone else (besides Rob) does - unless it was something to do with you. Meh. I dunno. But anyway whatever the reason poor Chas didn't deserve it and poor Rob doesn't deserve the shit he's gonna get now because of it. Too many people getting hurt - in a hospital of all places. ironic, isn't it?

And yay for my extended weekend ;) Let Sacred Heart manage without me I say. Maybe a break would do everyone a world of good - or not ;)

Noice and entertaining just before bed as always. Thanks again.

Well. Back to basics. Only update for tonight.

~

It was 11 am and Jo knew she would have to get her ass into that meeting room pretty soon before Azem or Josh noticed the lack of commentary towards Ravyn. She sighed as she put her files down on the nurses’ desk. She sat down at the table in front of her and started to sort out the files alphabetically for the records. She stopped three files later as she realised that she couldn’t avoid going to that meeting. She sighed again. She hated long shifts. She got to her feet and started to walk towards the elevator. She was sure to God that she was going to have a pit stop or something at either a vending machine or one of her nurses not able to do anything but stand around and chatter.

She walked past a couple of groups of people and then stopped randomly in the corridor. She turned around and remembered that she had seen Sarah somewhere before. But where and when? She turned back around continued her passage to the meeting room downstairs.

She stopped at the elevator, exhaled heavily, as she stood amongst the people waiting for the elevator. She saw Tarja singing blankly.

“I walk alone every step I take, I walk alone, my winter’s storm,” she could here Tarja sing softly under her breath. Jo smiled at how good Tarja could sing. “Holding me awake it’s never gone when I walk alone.”

“You’ve got a good voice on you Tarja,” interrupted Jo, as Tarja came back to reality and saw Jo. Tarja smiled. “For Gods sake, don’t let Harris catch you singing on the job. You know what she’s like.”

“It’s nothing, I like singing when I’m bored,” replied Tarja. “I don’t sing really that much. I’m usually not waiting forever for the elevator to come.”

“It is days like these, that make you question how technologically advanced this hospital is with its infrastructure,” commented Jo. “I wish this is something that Azem addresses today, our stupid elevators.” The doors opened and the crowd of people wanting to go down the building rushed in. Jo walked in but noticed that Tarja stayed. “You’re not going down?” Tarja shook her head. “I’ll catch you around then. Have fun with that singing of yours.”

“I will,” replied Tarja, as the elevator doors closed separating the two.

The elevator made a weird jolt and then it went down.

Okay, back to the thinking process, thought Jo to herself.

Jo thought back to her working days to Macey’s, for some odd reason. There was a couple in who they had all been told to be wary of. Jo thought that teenager couldn’t have been Sarah; she shook her head in disbelief. The girl had in the memory had shorter hair then what Sarah has now. But, it all made sense now that. It was Matt and Sarah in Macey’s, the shoplifting ones, that they had all been warned to keep on eye out for. The elevator stopped, as she soon realised that the doors were now open and this was her level to go off and attend the stupid meeting with Harris and other people she didn’t want to be around right now.

She walked out into the corridor and was half expecting Ravyn to sneak up on her so that she’ll have a heart attack or something.

“Good morning,” welcomed Meaghen, as she appeared by Jo’s side. Jo smiled as a response to Meaghen’s warm welcoming and as they walked down the corridor together. “How’s your day been so far?”

“Normal, just less of Harris’ shit,” answered Jo. “Which, is somewhat, a different thing. Usually I get a bunch load of random shit thrown at me or my nurses, or even both, I didn’t get any of it today.”

“Hello ladies,” welcomed Azem, as they both realised that everybody that was supposed to go to the meeting was behind them. “How are we going?”

“Fine,” they both answered with the least slight of interest to what Azem was saying to them.

Ten minutes later and the meeting room was in disarray.

“God damn Harris, I told you to go home,” retorted Azem to Harris’ criticism about Azem’s new reforms. “Didn’t I or am I just the supposed selfish old bastard you accuse me of?”

“No, you told me that I shouldn’t turn up to work tomorrow morning, in which that meant I got my long deserved three day long weekend,” corrected Ravyn. Andrea laughed at the fact that Azem hadn’t picked up Ravyn’s attention to detail.

“He’s trying to do something useful Harris,” objected Jo. “He’s even got together a new paramedic team. Something Gallagher never got around doing.”

“And where’s the so-called paramedic’s team right now, Jo?” asked Andrea, taking Ravyn’s side on things, as usually she did.

“On duty,” answered Josh, sitting at the head of the table, while Azem stood against the wall behind him. The rest of the doctors sat down at the table. Ravyn unimpressed as usual, Andrea followed this behaviour. While Jo and Meaghen were unimpressed by Ravyn’s response to something good that was going to happen to the hospital and that something that Grant failed to do; get his off from the television and do something.

Ravyn rolled her eyes.

“And pigs might fly, Gradon,” muttered Ravyn. “If you want some serious reforms to this hospital, put me in charge.”

“No one in the right mind would do such a thing!” exaggerated Azem at the top of his voice. “It’s like asking why we didn’t give Hitler a bravery award for taking on the whole Jewish community of Europe. God sake woman!”

“It’s like asking, as well, now that you mention it, why weren’t you killed as a child?” asked Ravyn, harshly, as Andrea thought that was out of line.

“That’s it, you’re going home right now, and you’re not coming back, ever,” threatened Azem. “And that’s no threat Harris, it’s an order. Don’t come back to work if you’ve got that attitude problem still intact.”

“Well, in that case, bye, I’ve had a shit day anyway,” farewelled Ravyn, as she got up and left the room. Andrea was going to say something in reply to Azem’s out of line comment and order. She didn’t say anything, for she feared that Azem would fire her out of sheer anger.

“Now, this is what happens when you cross me too many times,” said Azem at the top of his strong voice. “You get not only days off, but you’re at risk at losing your job completely. Harris should be scared, she’s just been suspended for an incident that happened a couple of months ago and that was her own damn fault, and she failed to tell the authorities. Now, I want a peace between Sacred Heart’s hospital staff. Or you’re going to end up being in Harris’ exact position, ready for the slaughter by the Board of Medicine.”

It was later on the day. Meg and Mel were standing in front of the notice boards scanning the board that was covered in different pieces of paper, in different colours, each trying to tell their form of message. Meg’s eyes were fixed however, on this one piece of paper that was yellow. She took a step and ripped it off the notice board. She read it.

‘SH’s newly arrived Christmas party’

It read in Garamond font and in size twenty-two, followed by fine print that gave the date and place in size fourteen.

Meg was surprised that someone in the hospital had the guts to try and implement such a disaster. Mel stopped scanning and focused her eyes on the two people next to her.

Two females, dressed in what looked like the new paramedics uniform. White shirts and navy blue pants with the hospital’s emblem on the front of them, opposite the chest pocket. They had radios attached to each of them.

“You going to this?” asked Meg, as Mel looked back to Meg. Mel then realised Meg was talking about the piece of paper that her fellow intern nurse was holding. “I would love to see Azem try to implement this.”

“So would I,” answered Mel, as she quickly scanned through the words. “How sure are you that it’s Azem is the individual trying to organise it?”

“He’s the only one who would bother trying to organise out of hospital social events,” answered Meg, smoothly. “Just think about it. This would indefinitely spark Harris off.”

“Give her hail, or give her a hurricane, anything even remotely close to a social hospital event would spark that woman off,” commented Mel, as she noticed that the two paramedics started to talk about the notices on the board. Mel lowered her voice to avoid weird stares from the pair next to her. “You reckon Azem’s reforms?” Meg looked past Mel and nodded.

“Indeed,” answered Meg, as she soon realised that a pair of police just past them. “Looks like someone’s done something to land them a visit from the coppas, hope it’s not a staff member.” Meg left out a small laugh as the thought of Ravyn getting arrested for God only knows what, amused her. “Harris better start watching her ass with those cops around.”

“I don’t think they’re here for Harris,” replied Mel, somewhat thinking in defence of Ravyn. “Hey, did you see what happened to Bennington in the early hours of this morning?”

“No, but I did hear something about Bourdon knocking him out stone cold over something to do with Azem and Harris,” answered Meg, looking back to Mel. “That’s so weird hearing that. Bourdon’s always been, too quiet to get done for something by the cops.”

“Passive aggressive?” suggested Mel. “It would explain why he’s going out with Harris, if he is passive aggressive. His woman isn’t passive over anything, but she’s sure aggressive.” Meg folded the piece of paper and put it in her pocket, as she soon realised that there were a ton of them randomly stuck against the notice board. Mel couldn’t help but to notice the paramedic’s conversation. Mel turned back around and stood staring at one of them, waiting for one of them to talk to Mel about what the hell they were doing there and not on the job. Mel was scared by this thought, she was thinking like Ravyn! Mel shook her head but continued staring at them. “Ah, excuse me, if I may.”

“Yes,” the first one replied. They were both females and both with dark hair.

“I couldn’t help but to notice, are you the new paramedics?” asked Mel.

“Yeah,” the second one answered. “Nurse, let me guess?”

“Yeah, Mel’s the name,” introduced Mel. “And this is Meg.” Meg tuned back into reality and gave them a small smile and a wave.

“Diana,” introduced the first one. “Di, for short.”

“Sygy,” introduced the second one.

“Hey,” greeted Meg, not knowing what to say to the products of Azem’s new reforms. She saw someone in the back of her eye, sparking an alert. She turned back to Mel. “Shit. Why is Gallagher back?”

“No clue whatsoever,” answered Mel, looking to where Meg had previously looked. “Has Azem already had enough of Harris’ shit and reinstated Gallagher or what?” Mel looked back to Meg. Mel knew her curiosity would kill the cat eventually and did. Mel took off after Gallagher wanting answers.

Meg turned back to Diana and Sygy.

“If Mel ever runs off on you, it’s no insult, she does that to even her own patients,” clarified Meg.

“Hold up Gallagher,” ordered Mel, as Mel caught up to her old boss and as he stopped to have a small conversation with one of his ex-staff. They caught each other’s eyes. “Why are you back so quickly? Missing us already?”

“As if, I wouldn’t miss Harris even if the heavens came down on me,” answered Grant, bluntly. “Why are there cops in this hospital?”

“Dunno, and I can’t think of a decent explanation,” answered Mel. “Why are you back?”

“I’ve got a couple of errands to run before I head off to New York,” answered Grant, who was in rush to find Ravyn to ask for something back, that he had only noticed that it was missing this morning. He couldn’t go to New York without his licence to practice medicine and all odds, Ravyn had it to teach him a lesson. “I’m in a rush Phoenix, so whatever you’ve got to say to me, it can wait. Now unless you’ve got what I want right now, go away.”

Grant shook Mel off his shoulders, like he did to…people that he didn’t like or didn’t want to talk, like Mel for a fair example. Mel sneered and decided not to go back to Meg who was probably stuck talking to the new paramedic officers, now known to Mel as Sygy and Diana.

She walked up to the elevator and pressed the button for the up waiters. She was trying to amuse herself by looking up at the sign that indicated where the elevator was.

“Hey Phoenix,” said Josh, as he stood next to Mel and waited to go up as well. Mel looked to the second in charge and smiled, as he held a manila folder in one hand. “Having a good day?”

“Pretty bland to be honest,” answered Mel. “Nothing out of the usual really.”

“Have you seen Harris around?” asked Josh.

“Yes, and wasn’t she supposed to go home like she was told to in the meeting?” asked Mel.

“The goodness of Harris, she never takes anything that Azem says seriously,” answered Josh, smiling at the Harris’ defiance. The doors opened and both parties went inside. They both were going to the nursing department. Josh was more or so trying to find Sarah, to give her the results about her child. Josh felt uncomfortable about being the one to tell her. The doors closed. “Are you going to see Sarah?” So in curing that concern of his, he now figured that Mel would tell her not him.

“Most likely,” answered Mel. “Why Sarah though?”

“I don’t think I’ll be seeing her soon, but I really want these results to get to her as soon as possible,” answered Josh. “Would you be a dear, and give it to her? I mean, if I was going to see her, I would.” Mel smiled as she accepted the manila folder that was in Josh’s grip. “I’ve just got business to deal with Jo and Tarja, about the head of nursing job.”

“Yeah, how’s that all going?” asked Mel.

“Because of Azem’s new reforms, he’s got rid of that competition bullshit and just concluded if they don’t get fired or demoted, they still get to retain their position,” answered Josh, as the elevator doors to the nursing department opened.

“That makes more sense then Gallagher’s system,” answered Mel. She walked out and so did he. They separated their ways as they exchanged waves and goodbyes. Mel was a bit confused about the direction that Gradon was heading in. If he wanted to see Jo or Tarja, or even both the ladies, it would’ve made more sense to follow her not the other way around, and not follow her. “God he’s weird.” Mel softly spoke that sentence. There was something about Mel’s personality that one needed to know, she liked to kill the cat in the cliché curiosity killed the cat. It was just; there wasn’t something right about the folder she was supposed to give to Sarah.

Mel stopped and opened the cat, stabbing the cat a thousand times with a dagger until it could no longer move.

She took out the piece of paper that had her daughter’s name at the top of it. Mel’s eyes lit up with sorrow and sympathy as she read the readings on it. And at the bottom it read;

‘Symptoms – vomiting, rashes, abdomen pain, hypoglycemia and hyperventilation.

Diagnosis by Dr. A. Raschell – Hereditary fructose intolerance.

Diagnosis confirmed by blood analyse.’

She didn’t want to give the results back to Sarah for Mel was afraid what Sarah’s reaction would be. Mel perfectly knew what Andrea was talking about. Ava had inherited from one of her parents a condition that made her intolerant to fructose and sucrose. Mel put the piece of paper back in the manila folder and started to walk frantically to find Sarah. Mel just realised for a split second that she had just past the roster for the afternoon. She rushed back to it and frantically started to look for Sarah’s name. Even Mel knew that interns were put on the whiteboard, which was next to the patient’s whiteboard, but that one was written in a different colour to avoid confusion. That's why the whiteboards were always the number one targets for Chester's and Brad's tricks.

Sarah’s name wasn’t there.

Tarja walked up to the patient’s whiteboard and started to erase some patient’s names with the end of her sleeve.

“Good afternoon Melissa,” greeted Tarja, as she saw her work colleague next to her.

“Hey Tarja,” replied Mel, in a rush to get her words out and get to her point. “Is Sarah still on roster for this afternoon?”

“Her shift ended two hours ago,” answered Tarja. “Why? Is the world ending?”

“No, but…” Mel trailed off in her sentence, as Tarja rolled her eyes and walked off. She had rolled her eyes at Mel’s inability to finish off a sentence, for Tarja thought Mel had it in for her.

It was about half an hour later and Rob was just finishing his shift. He put all the brooms and mops back into the janitor’s cupboard which was more like a dungeon and a labyrinth in one. He locked up. He tried opening the door, to make sure it was locked. He had succeeded. He turned around and the instant that he decided to turn around, Ravyn popped into view, right next to him.

“Are you planning to get trampled on?” asked Rob, bluntly. “I still don’t know why you’re hanging around me. After all, I was the one that bashed in Chester’s head thinking it was Azem’s.”

“I wouldn’t be angry if it was Azem’s, I’ll be congratulating you by now,” answered Ravyn. “Chester is the issue I’ve actually come to you about now. There’s a couple of policemen at the front desk wanting to most probably arrest you for this morning’s little incident. We’ve managed to stabilise him, and, it looks like we’ve got to medically induce him into a coma, if he doesn’t wake up in the next day or two. Shinoda was telling me about the internal damage you’ve managed to do, Rob. I don’t know how many blows to the head you did to him, but when he fell he already had a fractured skull. Now on top of that fractured skull, what Shinoda and I presume, he cracked his skull in half when he hit my front porch. I’ve seen the x-rays for myself; it’s not even something I would laugh about and it’s no Manet pretty picture, Chester’s x-rays, more like cubism in war with linear dimensions of a distorted Manet picture. And you know me; I like to take the piss out of Bennington.” Rob lowered his head, thinking about where he’ll be spending his night, in a four by four cell or in his warm bed at home. “I’m sorry I can’t do much to comfort you. But the reality is, I am already in enough shit because of happened with Matthew, and if I go against regulations that aren’t set down by Azem, I will lose my licence.” Rob raised his head so that he and his pretty-much-fucked-up-partner met eye contact. “I know what you’re thinking; I’m only doing it save my ass. It’s not the case, Rob, it’s really not and despite how much you think I’m just pulling your leg on this, I’m not trust me.” Ravyn felt bad for what she was going to say. “You’ve done more damage to this relationship then you think. This might come to you as a surprise, with me being the one to say this, but I cannot continue this relationship, if it’s still on. I didn’t want to tell you about my history with Azem, the only person that knows about us two is Andrea, and I would appreciate it if you didn’t make me repeat the information concerning such a sensitive matter. The last thing, and trust me on this, I saw the anger in your eyes and, it made me step back into reality about who we are when we are angry. I mean, we can be placid and timid like those God damn forsaken pigeons in Rome and the next; we are homicidal and ravenous cannibals. I don’t want to be going out with a man, that’ll explode any minute, especially if I’m a nearby spectator or target.”

Tears started to swell up in Ravyn’s eyes. It wasn’t the speech that was making her teary, but it was the memories of her previous marriage with Azem. Those were dark and daunting memories that she wished she would never remember or relive. And Rob being a replica of Azem almost was not on her hotness list. Rob now felt even worse about the whole situation. He and Ravyn hadn’t been that close since the incident, which, time has done it again, to this couple; it’s made a couple of hours make look like a doomsday clock waiting to tick itself out to an explosion. Ravyn knew something or someone would be the one to break it off. She just didn’t want to end up feeling like shit, either way.

“I understand,” Rob replied slowly, gulping at the fact that he didn’t know what her subliminal point was but he saw the casting blackness she had just cast over the pair. “I’m a good man, Rave, and you know that. It’s just, this morning. I lost control completely and I said it before, and I’ll say it again, I did it out of the sheer will of jealousy and I thought you were cheating on me. It just fitted so well. You and Azem…when Azem came into the picture recently, every time that I wanted to talk to you, you were too engaged in a conversation with him. I don’t know what the conversations were about, but, I guess you never saw me or something, but I felt like I was being ignored. I concluded wrong and now I’ve paid the ultimate price, I’ve lost the woman I love.”

Ravyn still didn’t know how the hell Rob had concluded her supposed affair with the man that had held a knife up to her throat on several drunken and angry moments, and threw death threats at her like a game of archery, the arrowhead through the target ten thousand times on a daily basis for four years, that’s how much it hurt for her. The only thing that was stopping her to fall on her knees and beg forgiveness and gratitude for Rob’s love for her, was Azem’s actions. It was pure and simple. Ravyn had been through the whole leaving-the-man-because-he’s-abusive-to-you conversation about three hundred times with Andrea and she knew Rob might sound and look sweet from the external point of view of things, but he had clearly demonstrated that his anger turned him into a ravenous maniac, driven by the motifs of rage and jealousy. The side that Ravyn dreaded to see of any individual, despite her attitude adjustment problem, she knew within herself, she would never be the person that she ran away from, all those years ago.

“We are all animals Rob, we hunt, we attack, and we kill,” Ravyn started to explain, as she tried not to relive those haunting memories of relationship abuse which was not only a statistic to her, but it was an experience that she never wanted to go back and relive. “Add the extra hormones of rage and jealousy, and fuck, you’ve got yourself an ultimate double mocha that not even Gloria Jeans is able to produce. And just when I thought Resident Evil was scary, you should’ve seen the look in your eyes when I re-opened my front door to see you sitting on a limp corpse that ultimately ended up belonging to Chester.” She was sick of trying to hide her past from Rob. She was sick of feeling that she was afraid of Rob’s reaction. She was just sick of using metaphors to describe her feelings that in the end, she knew Rob wouldn’t get. She gave up. “I’m going to go now. I have things to do and I have a massive report to type up.” She swallowed hard. “I’m sorry Rob that my final decision had to be this; I wish we could’ve started off on a better foot. The relationship was screwed up anyway, with or without you punching out a staff member.” She turned her back on him. Stood for a second or two, as her face screwed up, as her resistance to the tears could no longer continue, and she softly started to cry. Members of staff walked past in amazement that the most hardcore tight ass bitch of the entire hospital staff, had actually broken down for everyone to witness. No one gave sympathy towards Ravyn and she didn’t expect any. In fact, she didn’t want any.

She walked away, as she lowered her head, as she didn’t want to be seen, because she knew the end result of being seen breaking down and having the reputation of the most hardcore bitch of the hospital staff, did not mix well, especially with people who regularly gave the type of sympathy bullshit that annoyed Ravyn, like Jo for a fine example of sympathy bullshit. She walked into her office and closed the door.

Sarah stood bewildered at what she just saw. Ravyn had completely walked past her and didn’t throw a single insult her way. Sarah was unsure what she should do. Should she do something? Was the question that was nagging at her.

She walked up to Ravyn’s closed door and knocked. No response for a couple of seconds. She knocked repetitively for a couple of long seconds that her knuckles ached because of how hard the knocks were against and probably the density of the wood.

“Fuck you bitch, you don’t deserve to live, look what you did to the fucking food!” screamed Azem.

“No, fuck you, Azem!” Sarah could hear Ravyn yelling inside.

“Ravyn? Are you alright?” asked Sarah, knocking again, a bit worried that Rayvn had started to turn into a psychopath.

“See this knife? Go figure what I’m going to do with it. And then, I’m going to puree your corpse and feed it to the starving. Fucking teach you to burn the fucking food you stupid bitch!”

“No, please, Azem, it was an accident,” muttered Ravyn, as she hid her face between her knees.

“Fuck this door down,” Sarah muttered to herself, as she realised what she had just said did not make sense. She opened the door to see Ravyn in the very far corner of her office, as Sarah soon realised that Ravyn was hiding her face in between her knees. Ravyn looked up to see who had the guts to enter her personal space. Ravyn’s face was covered in tears and that took Sarah by complete surprise. Someone might as well just have smacked her over the head with a baseball bat but never in a million years would she expect to see Ravyn like this. “I see you’re in tears. Why?” Sarah was afraid if she showed pure sympathy she would get done for it, Ravyn would have an ultimate mood change, and Sarah probably wouldn’t exit this room with her head still intact. Sarah took her chances. She came over to the shrivelled up hardcore bitch in the corner and knelt in front of her. She was waiting for the jaws to rip at her. It was a risk that she was willing to take.

“You’re so lucky in a way Sarah, you really are, with Ava and that,” started Ravyn, as Sarah was starting to become afraid of where this was going. Sarah was going to play along. She knew Ravyn wasn’t a faker and if she somehow was faking the tears, she was doing a bloody well job on the tears and the act.

Sarah shook her head in protest.

“No I’m not, I’m only lucky because I have a lot of family support,” replied Sarah.

“I hated that marriage with him, seriously, it was hell every time I woke up, and everytime I breathed around him,” continued Ravyn. Sarah had no clue what she was talking about but had concluded that Ravyn was in a marriage. Sarah nodded. “You are least know your child. Azem took my child away from me when I disobeyed his orders and left him for a night. I thought he was asleep.” Sarah’s eyes lit up from not paying attention, to what the fuck? “That’s why I thought the house was so quiet when I came back the next day, when Azem was at work. I bet to God he’s done something with him, even killed him to torture me. Put him up for adoption, changed his name and dropped him off at an orphanage probably halfway across the world in Russia or some isolated piece of shit country. I don’t know what to do, he’s back, my ex is back, and everyone loves him. And what’s worse, Azem’s burnt all the pictures of Leo. So all I have are the memories of Leo.”

“Yeah, I would kill that son of a bitch if I were you,” replied Sarah smoothly. “I know I would if Matt got off his ass for once and chucked a conspiracy like that on me with Ava.”

It was that night and Sarah was walking home from work. Her car had broken down earlier that morning and all Matt could do about is go back to sleep on the couch. Sarah hated Matt for not only what he did to her in the past, but how lazy that dumb fuck was. Sarah personally didn’t know why she had let Matt stay with her. He wasn’t even paying any of the bills, didn’t even know where Ava’s medicines were and on top of that, to utterly piss Sarah off, he hadn’t bothered to get off the couch and get himself a decent job, so that he could move out and stay away from her and her daughter. But what really rocked her boat, was Ava’s diagnosis that Mel had handed her prior to her departure from the hospital. It was a condition that told her that Matt could not be trusted taking care of Ava, and it was heredity, a condition that most likely, ran through Matt’s family.

What if Ava was fed the wrong thing and she had a major allergic reaction? How was Sarah supposed to know that Matt would know where the adrenaline shots are when he couldn’t find where her food was the other night?

She sat down on a park bench, as she had made a detour through the park. She fumbled around in the dark in her bag and pulled out her red lighter and a pack of Peter Jackson’s. She didn’t usually smoked, but she only smoked when she was under a lot of pressure and hell, after what Ravyn had told her about her supposed son named Leo and her abusive relationship with Azem, that did smack Sarah in the back of the head out of the blue. Her lips held the cigarette in place as she lit up.

The illuminating light of the naked flame illuminated a small field around her, as the illuminance highlighted her dark blue eyes and her now multi-coloured fringe. The flame disappeared and the only thing she could really see apart from the park lights was the red glow of the cigarette. She drew in and she exhaled deeply.

She knew she shouldn’t smoke, but she couldn’t help it. Things had gone from weird to bizarre in the hospital, and that’s just the dramas that were going on amongst the staff. But one thing she found really funny, while Ravyn was probably unaware of her own emotional state, Sarah figured out, why Ravyn was so sympathetic when it came to Ava, after the first few spits. Ravyn’s emotionally driven rants kept Sarah thinking all day. Something about how she should just leave Chicago and never come back. Even a couple of times Ravyn had suggested just leaving the whole country altogether just to get away from this one guy that made her life a planet hell.

Sarah took another drag. She closed her mouth and the smoke came out of her nostrils instead of coming out in a cloud of smoke. She closed her bag and got to her feet. She followed the dirt path to the street and stopped to push the button for the pedestrians to hold up the traffic for them to cross the road. The street lights and the headlights of the cars highlighted Sarah’s confused and worried expression.

She looked at the cigarette, which had burnt a quarter of the way. She threw it on the ground and stepped on it until it was out. She crossed her arms and exhaled deeply once again, as she thought that coming to Sacred Heart would mean less dramas and more work. But it was the opposite and Sarah knew she didn’t like dramas, because she had grown up with them and, with Matt being in the scene, it was the last thing that she wanted.

It was a cold night. The sky above Sarah looked like snow clouds as the half moon was glowing weakly behind a large cloud. Sarah wished she had worn warmer clothes. There was a chill that ran down her spine that told her someone was close by that she didn’t like. It could only be three people in the entire world right now that could inflict damage on her to cause her to lock herself in a room for days and never come out, not even for food, Matt, Viking, and Azem. She wanted to look, but she was too afraid that she was going to be in for a nasty surprise. She looked to the slim figure beside her, finally, as she soon realised with the glow of the streetlights who that figure was.

“Amy?” spat Sarah, out of sheer disbelief. Her eyes hadn’t fooled her. Almost three years since they’ve met or had any contact and Amy hadn’t changed. The same black-haired and dangerously thin woman that had abandoned Sarah on the sidewalk, six months into her pregnancy with Ava. A car went past and showed Amy wasn’t alone with its headlights. Matt was right. She had more than one kid, and…how old was Amy already? Sarah’s age, early twenties.

“I was wondering when you would see me,” replied Amy, as Sarah remembered she still had the face of a junky. “I saw you lighting up in the park.”

Sarah didn’t know where to start; in fact, she didn’t know what words to start with, nice ones or abusive ones.

“I have nothing to say to you,” said Sarah, swallowing hard, as the memories of Amy’s departure started to come back. “You were once my friend, one of my best friends to be in fact, and you fucking left me to practically die or to be raped on the sidewalk on thirty-second street. It’s bad enough Matt’s back in my life and that I have to take care of your junky husband.”

“So its true, you work in the hospital now,” started Amy. She smiled, as Sarah realised she was pushing two conjoined prams, the ones that were designed for twins. Amy was smiling at the memories of the short-hair-drug-addict version of Sarah, back in the old days. “I remember the good old days. We used to shoplift from Macey’s all the time.”

“I don’t want to start having constant contact with you Amy, I really don’t,” lectured Sarah. “I don’t know what your situation is with Viking, but…what Matt and Viking did to me was highly unethical and wrong, but what you did to me, shook me up even more. You don’t abandon someone who feels like she’s going to have a child that’s fucked up because she chose her child over the drugs. You have no idea what I’ve been with Matt recently, so…just go away please.”

The green man was highlighted on the opposite side of the road, indicating that they could proceed without caution. Sarah was the first person to leave the sidewalk. Amy wanted to talk to Sarah some more, as she pushed the conjoined pram across the road. Sarah reached the opposite and sharply turned left, just as Amy reached the opposite side and walked onto the sidewalk.

“Sarah, running away doesn’t and can’t solve anything,” said Amy, as Sarah stopped in her tracks and turned around to see her ex-best friend who had abandoned her for her boyfriend and the father of Sarah’s child. “I know about Matt and how you’ve given him a second chance.”

“I haven’t forgiven Matt, and I won’t forgive Matt for what he did in the past,” corrected Sarah, angrily. “What makes you think if I can’t forgive Matt, what makes you think that I’ll forgive you and Viking?”

“Sarah, you’ve got understand that time heals old wounds and you’re refusing to let the wounds heal,” replied Amy, as Sarah frowned at such bullshit. “You’ve always been known for being stubborn.”

“Time doesn’t heal this type of wound, especially when I have to take care of the result of Matt supposedly loving me,” retorted Sarah. “So you can’t say jack shit to me about old wounds, because you’re one of them, and you’re a bad memory that deserves to be taken care of and become extinct. I was in the process, and I am still in the process of healing, but with Matt, Viking and you now back in my life, I’ve stopped healing and I’ve started relapsing even more because of the drugs. Ava is worth so much to me because you don’t know what I had to go through to bring her into this world and to raise her like I am doing. Now, once you’ve gone through my traumatic experiences Amy, then you can say jack shit, but while you’re a bad memory in need of a good poisoning…just stay away from me and my child…in fact, stay away from the hospital altogether. I don’t care if Viking dies, he probably deserves it.”

“You have no idea how much I’ve changed…” Sarah interrupted Amy in angry fit of anger.

“No you haven’t!” snapped Sarah. “You’re the same as before. You always wanted to play the innocent victim and look, you’re my age and you have more kids then I do! I’m going to go and I hope to God, next time I depart from a conversation between us, I hope there’s a fateful diagnosis waiting for you.”

Sarah turned around and started to walk, and walk she did. She picked up her walking pace for about a good fifteen minutes until she came home. The lights weren’t turned on, indicating that no one was home. She unlocked the front door and slammed it shut, as she was both upset and angry by this stage. The tears she cried were both out of sadness and anger. She turned on the hallway light and slumped against the door, as she started to remember Amy, who she was back then to her and how much pain Sarah was in when Amy left her.

Well I think Amy deserved that... mind you, depends on what she was actually there for, if she was trying to patch things up maybe you were being a bit harsh. If she was there to pick up where you left off then sure, maybe your reception was justified. One thing though, you used the word illuminate/illumination like 3 times in the one sentence, that threw me. Other than that all was well. Just a technical thing. I get anal about semantics sometimes, meh, stand in line and sue me *shrugs*

;)

Want more dammit! And goddamn Sarah - stop leaving your daughter home alone with her father!! Haven't you learned anything from the past?? *just wanna slap your character so bad sometimes* haha

Now that's passion.

Ravyn stared blankly at the wall.

She was in the state of mind that just panicked and did things without thinking. She was so tempted to pack her possessions up and just leave this life behind.

She closed her eyes shut tightly as she tried not to remember the memories.

“Azem!” yelled Ravyn from upstairs. Azem was in front of the television downstairs as football season had began and when Azem wasn’t doing what he did best out of Ravyn’s site, he was in front the thing or at the dinner table with his eyes glued to the television, including on the commercials that ran during the break at halftime.

“What?” growled Azem. “I’m trying to watch the football.”

“Isn’t that a surprise?” asked Ravyn, sarcastically, as she kept that comment between her and her child. “Can you please watch the food? I’m trying to put Leo to bed and please, I would appreciate for my sleeping patterns sake to turn the television down. Your six month year old son is more important than the football.” Ravyn rolled her eyes, as did Azem, as he got up and went to the fridge to grab another beer. Ravyn held little Leo in her arms, as she got up from her original seating from inside his dully-lighted room. She walked down the stairs and into the living room, with the infant still in her arms. She looked around to see where Azem had gotten to, because he didn’t leave the TV very often during football season, only to eat, get a beer, or go to the bathroom.

“Jesus Christ woman, can you not walk away from the food for two damn minutes?” asked Azem, from the kitchen. Ravyn swore some shit would go down tonight, she was at the end of her tether with Azem’s behaviour. In fact, she was at the end of her tether ages ago, that was before she found she had accidentally fallen pregnant. She put Leo down as she walked into the kitchen.

“What’s your problem?” asked Ravyn, as she saw no clear indication that something had gone wrong. “Nothing’s exploded and nothing has been burnt. What are you on about?” That’s when Ravyn shut her mouth completely. She had just told Azem off. Azem wasn’t happy with her attitude and the tone Ravyn had just given him. “I’m sorry.”

“You fucking should be,” sneered Azem, as he started to walk off, caught sight of Leo crawling on the ground, stopped and turned back around to face his wife. They met eye contact. “Why is Leo there?”

“Ah, I came down for you to say goodnight to your own son,” answered Ravyn, trying to keep her patience to a maximum. She didn’t even want to recall the last time she lost her patience with him; it wasn’t a pretty thing to watch. “I ain’t having my son in the kitchen when the chance of something boiling over and spilling on him is too high.”

“That’s why I told you to watch the food,” objected Azem. “Ravyn, are you losing your patience with me? Remember last time you lost your patience at me?” Ravyn didn’t want to reply but she knew if she didn’t she would be forced to answer him.

“Yes,” answered Ravyn, softly. “I’m not losing my patience.”

“Are you lying to me?” asked Azem. “I don’t like lies.”

“No, I’m not lying to you,” answered Ravyn.

“Good, now put Leo to bed,” ordered Azem. Ravyn was used to this hypocrisy, but every time he was a hypocrite Ravyn always froze in sheer anger. “Ravyn, that’s not a request that’s an order.”

“I can’t fucking watch the food and put Leo to bed at the same time!” objected Ravyn, startled at her own behaviour. Azem came closer. Ravyn started to walk backwards into the corner. “I’m sorry, please, Azem, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it. Please, Azem, not in front of Leo.” Azem stopped, within five inches of cornering Ravyn in the corner. “I’m sorry Azem.”

“What are you sorry for?” asked Azem, autocratically.

“For losing my patience at you,” answered Ravyn, quietly.

“Now say it properly, like you mean it,” ordered Azem, smoothly.

“I’m sorry Azem for losing my patience at you, I won’t do it again,” replied Ravyn, automatically. She knew the line too well, because she had said it too many times on too many occasions.

“Now what are you going to do?” asked Azem.

“Put Leo to bed, like you had told me to,” answered Ravyn.

“Then fucking do it!” yelled Azem, as he picked up a beer off the bench and walked back into the living room. Before Ravyn could exit the room, as she started to move out from the corner of the kitchen she had just been backed into, Azem came back and slammed the beer down. Ravyn stopped walking. “In fact, I may as well do it. You’re not going to do it. Leave everything up to me dammit!” Ravyn was going to argue that case but decided that Azem assumed he was right, therefore, he must be right, she thought of that last comment to herself with sarcasm.

“Sorry,” Ravyn whispered to herself, angrily. “Sorry for not being the perfect dream wife. Sorry for thinking you were the right man for me.”

She turned around to the boiling pots on the stove and a sizzling fry pan as well. Everything was fine. Nothing was burning, and nothing was exploding. She made sure of this because she didn’t like Azem when he overreacted, and he usually overreacted to everything under the sun, so she didn’t like Azem full stop. Ravyn was only staying with him because Ravyn wanted to pin point an exact time where she could take her son and herself out of the city and one day, out of the country for good.

She walked out to the living room where the football was on full blast, walked over to the box and turned it down, as she heard the door of Leo’s room close and she sighed, as she watched the commercials flash neon colours and big letters in weird fonts. She sat down on the couch and started to contemplate changing the channel. She could hear Azem coming down the stairs.

Ravyn froze with fear. She could sense it. She just did something wrong. She wasn’t watching the food, but watching the television. And, she was in his spot.

Azem stormed over to the television, and turned it off. He turned around and looked at his wife dangerously. Ravyn didn’t even have time to explain herself. He moved so quick.

He pulled her up by her arm and slapped her across the face. The force was so strong it threw Ravyn back down on the couch. Ravyn started to beg by now, and cry, again. She rubbed her sore cheek.

“Get up, get up you stupid whore,” growled Azem. Ravyn knew if she didn’t get up within five seconds of that order, hell was going to hit the roof. She shot up to her feet.

He grabbed her by the throat and pinned her against the wall. It hurt so much, because Azem had just pinned Ravyn against a fire poker and it was digging into her back. Ravyn was struggling to breath by this stage.

“Please,” she managed to say through tears of pain and tears of fear.

“Give me a reason, huh, what’s it going to be this time?” asked Azem. “Last time it was because I loved you. I don’t even know you’re still around! You’re useless! You can’t even watch the food!”

“…nice food…” Ravyn managed to reply, which in fact, the whole sentence was that she cooked nice food. Azem let go of her and let her drop a metre or two, to the ground. She thought it was over, as felt her back. It was saturated in blood as the fire poker had dug into her deeply. Azem turned around, as Ravyn thought he would do and he wouldn’t talk to her for another day or two and make her feel like she had done something wrong. But Azem turned back around, grabbed Ravyn’s arm, forced her to her feet, and dragged her to the kitchen.

“See this food?” asked Azem. “If this is the slightest overcooked or undercooked, that boiling water is going to be poured over your head.”

“Is she alright?” asked Diana to Sygy, as the both were looking at Ravyn closing her eyes and crying.

“I don’t think so,” answered Sygy. “You think we better go get Azem?” Diana nodded, as they exited the nursing common room to go get Azem.

Whoa...!

Um... Jesus... not much I can say to that. Freaked me out to be honest! What the fuck?! Happy marriage huh? I read it... well... I saw it! (Actually what a brilliant idea for a spin off! haha, am sure Azem would love to be immortalized forever like that *shakes head* but still... very tense. And you know I love my drama). I just read it though and couldn't help but wonder how they even got together in the first place. I mean, what the hell, they practically hate each other! WTF?!

But anyway - I read it and got to the end and was like gob smacked a second time. Sure, get the one that made me that way to make it worse... Christ... I can see either he goes or I do... straight to the funny farm... bring it on bitch ;) hahaha

Just great. One of the best. Way to go. More?
