LP_Soldier Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 It just opened on Friday the 21st, and I went to see it yesterday. And darn, it was really, really great. I'd been listening to the soundtrack a few days before the movie opened, and I thought that the music and lyrics were really well done. Johnny has an amazing voice, and I think that in both the acting and the singing he really depicted the character of Sweeney Todd, he nailed the part. I watched the original movie before I saw this one, and, of course, it's a lot different. I found that you really couldn't compare the two. I'm a huge fan of Tim Burton's films, so I knew that I'd absolutely love it. Anyone else have any input? azemkamikaze03 Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 Well, granted Sweeny Todd is a musical, so coming into it you have to have a thing for that kind of stuff. Quote ¿whysoserious?

Jeezy Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 I saw it yesterday...and it's a lot better than I thought it would be Helena Bonham Carter is the bomb Quote
Ravynlee Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Call me ignorant but before I went and saw it I didn't know it was a musical. D'uh for me. When it opened the visual spectacle of it was just awesome. Very dark, very Burton-esque. The singing threw me right off the bat, not that it was bad (agreed Johnny does have a good voice) I was just a bit taken off guard. The movie progressed and it was pretty good. A bit slow I thought but admittedly Helena Bonham Carter just made the part her own with her one liners. She really made the movie I think. Without the humor it wouldn't have been tolerable IMHO. The ending was predictable, even a tad disappointing. I really was expecting better. The whole movie seemed to build up to a crescendo that fell short of the mark. And the 'gore' at the end while amusing was just too fake to be of any gratification. The fire scene however was good. The best most memorable part was the song Johnny and Helena partake when they decide to start hunting on society - that still cracks me up. Over all it was good but not great. Others will love it for their reasons that's their opinion. Though it did have the classic Burton feel I didn't think it was one of his best. I don't know what let it down the most BUT the casting sure was great. Ace. Might have enjoyed it more minus the singing - then again maybe it might have been a bit too dark and brooding without? Anyway that's my two cents. Thought I'd share.
