Age Difference in a Relationship

What do you think is the most acceptable age difference in a relationship? 2 years? 5? or maybe even 6? Well 6 is the number that seperates me and my man and we dont care what people think (he's older me than me not the other way around). But I think when it comes to like a 14 yr old dating a 21 year old or maybe someone even 60 years their senior (even in more mature women than me (lol anyone can be more mature than me sometimes!)) is a bit wrong.

Like you say depends in certain situations. Ordinarily I don't see age being a huge hangup. Esp when both ppl are at least in their 20's (and above), younger than that there's a question of emotional maturity yet to be reached (some never mature regardless age! haha) and the potential of problems you might not necessarily get with age/experience (I refer to LIFE experience of course, not rooting around).

 

Look providing you're both of consenting age and no one's getting unduly hurt then what does age matter? You love each other, so be it, happy for you. Don't let people dictate because of their insecurities for whatever reason. My mother is 7 years older than my stepdad and they've been married 12 years now, they seem happy enough.

 

I have personal preferences though. I usually don't like younger guys, they're far too emotionally immature. On occasion I may be wrong, personally haven't seen it. I don't like guys over 10 years older. I start getting the daddy-complex. So I guess, as I said, it comes down to choice and of course socially exceptional standards (for instance, pre-teens and adults, teachers and students, doctors and patients, adults and elders - worked for Anna Nicole and so on). If you're head over heels for a guy but everyone in your life thinks its a bad idea due to age differences alone then you might be adding undue pressure on yourself and your budding relationship to stay with this person just because you want to prove everyone wrong. In such an instance if you really were in love there'd be no reason why he/she couldn't wait for you. One way to validate feelings I guess.

 

But you two are in college. Let's face it 6 years isn't a drama. In effect it may seem weird if you were 6 years older (some people would think its weird, not me, but another social drama) - I think you may be over-thinking things. No sweat so far as I see or anyone else should. Like I said if you were 16 and he were in college I might start thinking it's a bit... unsavory. No matter. No biggie. Enjoy yourself Be good. Be SAFE. Have fun. No one said it has to be a forever thing... unless you want it to be.

I don't see it as a problem if they are both over 16. But I am 18 and the girl I like is pretty much 16, and people get iffy with stuff like that.

i never really see the problem though, if you both like eachother it shouldnt matter(unless one is 18 and the other is 12 or so)

Yeah it's just that the girl is still 15 and not 16 till June, so everyone assumes it's an 18 year old with a 15 year old when technically it's a 18 year old with a 16.

Age really doesnt matter (this of course takes into account abuse of power and status with younger ppl/emotionally disable therefore my statement doesnt apply). All the people ive ever had some sort of an adultish relationship with have been older than me. I think that most girls my age find other guys are age really immature and actually annoying. (OMG, today in my form room all the boys in my class were laughing over a picture of a naked women in a biology book!!! -.-) But maybe im just naturally bias bc my dad is 22 years older than my mum (eventhough that really ISNT the best example )

age diffrence is fine in a relationship as long as its legal. if my 13 year old daughter came home and said she had a 16 year old boyfriend i would kill him. but if she was 17 and told me she had a 20 year old bf then i would be ok with it.

Older men are generally more attractive to me, though most of my relationships have been with guys around my own age, though the one I'm in now has a 3 and a bit year age gap (I'm 17, he's 20), and my mum was a bit iffy about it, and so were a few of my friends... I don't see it as being that bad though...

Well It depends.. You have girls who are mature for their age, and girls who are childish for their age.

If both feel it's right.. I don't see any problem with it

and who cares about what others think, it's your life you live it the way you want it, whether other people like it or not.. that's their problem.

Uhm...the situation with me now is that I'm 19 and he's 18...I don't care about that even though it may seem funny since girls my age usually date older guys...

 

My thinking about the whole age thingy is similar to the others...it depends on the actual age of the couple...I don't really support relationships between Idk for example 14 and 20 year old...but I don't think there's anything wrong with for example 20 and 27 year old...I think you got my idea...

its not always true....but its a close stereotype of the types of relationships that would occur

 

i dont think its a problem, its up your own moral codes, i try not to go outside of a +/- 2.5 year gap, but thats just me
