Friðbjörn Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 I have no idea why he was given a 5-day ban...he's leaving anyway or has, perminently. right? and at least you Still and probably others too are "rejoicing". I dunno what the hell that is about. I know what it's about but I kinda dont get it. well probably cause matt tends to scold you guys for tastes that he consideres cliché and boring or as he puts it, "shit". well to be perfectly honest so do I. I'd like to think I've been more candid about it, but really, it's better to be honest like matt is. usually when I think someone's taste is shit I just kinda nod and get out of the thread or something. not always though. the funniest thing is that matt himself has a tendency towards indie rock, which I actually tend to think of as nowadays cliché and boring, and well I'm gonna say it, shit. what I've heard anyways and I haven't exactly heard everything. I have nothing personal against anyone here in this aspect, except when the fight gets childish or silly like it sometimes does. and I loath that. but you know, I don't exactly have clean hands myself. anyway I've said way too much and someone's probably pissed off already from reading this so I'll stop Quote [broken External Image]:http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/2784/lpfas08mostintelligentym8.jpg
DarknessLover Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Stenners was banned because he flamed me, on numerous threads. There is even some left over in my Lyrics thread if you want to see. Basically, he thought I went at him for his taste, which, I admit I did, but he took it to the next level made it act like I was attacking him,his music, his life style etc. Or that's what I think anyway. So he insulted me, repeatedly, and that's why he was booted Quote The Park is Back? No way!

The approach on this album is one of fun and light heartedness with Dan Le Sacs strongly accented vocals riding some of the most funkily off the wall beats you will hear this year.... you know weirdly off the wall in that they aren't trying to be cool but they just are because they don't try. The is no OTT string orchestras, vocal sampleing & over keep piano twinkerling here... NO SIR most of this album rides off of the beat and bassline with other instruments taking what is thought traditonal in hip hop... taking the back seat to let the beat, bass and emcee do the talking... o sure the instrumental melodies are still noticable but at NO stage do they take the foreground other than on 'Fixed' which is a spoof of British hip hop act trying to come up with a sound and ultimatley sounding like Dizzie Rascal. http://www.analoguemagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/danlesacvsscroob.jpg Some people might find some Dan Le Sacs lyrics a little hard to swallow and sometimes he does seem a bit self rightious but to be honest with you if your gonna take the infinate satire present on 'Thou Shalt Always Kill' which is just a list of things people shoudn't do in modern pop culture then you need both your humour and sarcasam detector fixed mate. Whilst Dan Le Sac provides an unothodox subject matter Scroobius Pip lays down some of the most effortlessley brilliant beats your likely to hear this year, as I said before letting for the most part leaving samples and melodies to the background and letting the beat and chopping do all the impact. It has to be said hip hop has been really growing within it's self recently and going on to takin many forms and is becomming just as diverse as rock with many artists going out looking to breach out of the typical synth orchestra shit your likely to hear on the radio... with acts such as Why? sounding like an indie pop act but yet effectivley being hip hop, Subtle sounding like an alien experimental group, eDIT splicing it with toones of glitched electronic effects... this album is more traditonally hip hop but at the same time the freshest of a bunch of Hip Hop acts trying to sound different, its quirky... fun and light hearted without playing it safe and it does it too such a devestating effect. :D :D The Beat That My Heart Skipped Thou Shalt Always Kill BTW = Half Quote Delete my account, the is no reason why it should be against standard procediure, do it do it do it. Return To The Sea pretty much sum'd up why lo-fi pop is so great... it's joyus, hooky and the most important trait of any lo-fi recording, it's HONEST. Islands the definative lo-fi pop band of the 00's... maybe? Well they were looked at with very keen observation with many people comparing them to Lo Fi pop GODS 'The Unicorns' and things looked good for them, I sure as hell know I was excited about this album, hell I would say this album was one I have been looking forward to since it was first announced late last year! I have literally been salivating at the idea of this being my album of the summer! And as terrible the lesbian pedofila love love cover or whatever the hell is going on cover looked I was still damed excited! YEA! I shat my pants at the prospect of this album. http://www.primary.uk.com/primary/bandpix/islands_space.jpg What the hell happend? I mean sure okay the hooks are here but 60's laced epic album wasnt what I was looking for! It's polished it doesnt sound honest... and there you go.. the band has lost almost all it's appeal in one vital move and you know what I havent felt so utterly utterly dissapointed over an album in a long time! It's catchy enough sure but this album has left me so indifferent to the band that I just cant look at any of it's redeeming features which is a shame, the album plays off like a 60s laced Muse with a fiddle... think of that what you will but for me it's not Islands, Creeper is a fantastic song though. Stenners Posted May 2, 2008 Author Posted May 2, 2008 http://img389.imageshack.us/img389/5376/49505wolfparadeatmountzhm7.jpg Wolf Parade At Mount Zoomer Indie/Alternative/Indie Pop Spencer Krug last year gained a couple of fans rather suprisingly with last years 'Random Spirit Lover' under his other band 'Sunset Rubdown' now I finaly get a chance to bum his other band right in front of you under matured eyes! So kids if your under 18 or dont promise not to sue... go away right now. Wolf Parades 2005 releases 'Apologise To Queen Mary' is one of the best debuts I have ever heard, it was cleaver , experimental and well just litterd full of great songs. Fast forward 3 years and the shynth laced jarred indie pop returns with I dunno Spencer appearing to do some sort of compromise.. like its a cross between Rubdown and Parade.... and you know what it works treats. http://www.drownedinsound.com/images/9576.jpg This is no suprise though really, a heavy hitting super band of sorts with members from Sunset Rubdown, Hot Hot Heat (ex anyways before they went shit when he left) amongst others they could hardly faulter. This album is by far more synthy and the general feeling of the songs do have that thudding feel you got from Sunset Rubdown when the songs really kicked in, yet not as dark it's still very much a pop album. Where as songs such as 'Language City' sounds very much like old school Wolf Parade (with the synth a bit more up front) songs such as 'Bang Your Drum' sounds like Sunset Rubdown caught on a somewhat sunny day. It's joyus music 'California Dreamer' is one of the best songs of the year it's full of charecter and moments whilst teasing you with brief intermissions of build up climaxing... and starting all over with a sudden large climax with the sudden dispursement to the slow nature... it's this sort of structure that when executed poorly can destroy a perfectly good song... especially when... ya know its meant to be POP but ya know here it just works, whilst not as good as the debut (well not to me yet) this album is still one which shows a band without a duff song and of a band that is obviously far from loosing its creative flow just yet. Friðbjörn Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 okay I'm starting out with a few recommendations http://www.eve-online.com/download/music/ dunno if anyone's heard of this game, I haven't played it myself, but the music is pretty good, lot of ambient and electronica http://rokk.is/mp3/s/stafraenn_hakon_sitronudurgurinn_(live_birmingham_2004).mp3 stafrænn hákon makes post-rock/ambient/electronic/something has a tendency to use the same guitar effect in many songs, but this one's quite good and the last one is a song by the album leaf, called over the pond http://www.mediafire.com/?2ytdtnxyddz simple enough, actually features the singer from sigur rós, and this whiny effect sigur rós uses sometimes, nontheless pretty good then I'll probably post my This will destroy you review if I can be arsed Quote [broken External Image]:http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/2784/lpfas08mostintelligentym8.jpg
Stenners Posted May 3, 2008 Author Posted May 3, 2008 Looking Back: http://www.offtopic.forum/data/MetaMirrorCache/562fa4c3ec08acf5483e3fe2676e1a5f.jpg Method Man Tical Hip Hop/Rap/East Coast Released 1994 Tical is the debut from Wu-Tangs Method Man around the time where hip hop was really starting to take off with albums not only being for the most part very good but also being very succesful, Wu Tang embodied this a lot around the time of the release & it came to no suprise that members where releasing albums left right & center and it most deffinatly came to no suprise that Method Man would be amongst the first to do so. The album is a very dark brooding thing relying on very bass heavy drum & dusty beats with very very and I do mean VERY sparse use of anything else, the additonal samples used are very sparse leaving the tracks very bare and it gives off a great paranoia feeling. The album does it's darndest to sound as dirty and unpolished as possible and it does this very well, the vocal samples arent pitch vocal perfect sped up loops or soul singers (excusing the excelent 'Release You Self', the real pop moment of the album) but instead uses really understated vocal efforts which are far more interesting and effective at setting the mood. http://www.offtopic.forum/data/MetaMirrorCache/1702a9dc70d78f0abcf5da428c33d0e9.jpg The album must of had some superb quality control, you get the idea that Method Man knew exactly what he wanted with this album and by keeping it at a trim 40 odd minutes the album pretty much follows a direction extremely well. None of the tracks fill like filler and none of them startle the flow, the opening track 'Tical' lays down the rest of the album perfectly but not all the songs are slow and durgey 'Bring The Pain' is far more up tempo but stays absolutley true to the formula and the same is true for 'Release You Self' despite being far greater produced then the rest of the album. This is a pinacle moment in hip hop during the 90s, it's the darkest rap album any of the Wu had put out, lyrically its pretty much flawless and the flow threw out even with the guest apperances (including additional wu members) is great. :D :D Bring The Pain Release Yo' Self Quote Delete my account, the is no reason why it should be against standard procediure, do it do it do it. The first thing you may notice about these singles is that they all sound like they could have bee pulled out by 3 different bands.... the only things really interlinking them are Billy Corgans distinctive vocals and the muddy production. This is the main pull of Smashing Pumpkins and also perhaps why they also have lasted song long (well as a brand anyways, the band isn't actually the same band anymore). http://www.freewebs.com/zzmaster/Smashing%20Pumpkins%202.jpg People who check this album out for the first time will be greeted with familiar territory if they play Guitar Hero with 'Cherub Rock' openening the album with the leading interplay between drums and guitar and is followed by the much heavier 'Quiet'. What is considerd to be the bands masterpiece & the only reason this album exists (as billy would tell it) 'Today' follows which is just a beautifuly inspirational song and it was so good it stopped Billy from disbanding the band all together. Already within the first 5 tracks you have heard a lot of variety but it all seems so right together and this pretty much continues the trend of the album 'Disarm' is the most heavily produced album a once accoustic song now has orchestral backing with massive drums and cinematic deployment of alternative instrumentasion and 'Geek USA' has one fantastic guitar solo & was voted number 54 in the top 100 guitar solos of all time. On top of these credentials you have 'Mayonaise' which is one of the best love songs of all time 'Spaceboy' is a fine dream pop song & the ending track 'Silverfuck' is pretty much a flawless 8minute epic. The is so much to this album that I cannot begin to describe it an give it justice, the endless turns in direction around which should strictly speaking should be a linear musical structure, the is a lot of depth yet accasibility to it... sure Billy Corgans voice may be a bit marmite for some but on this album its at possibly it's most tolerable.... this is an album with faroscious riffs, solos, touching lyrics and great pop songs... what more could you want? :D :D Today Disarm Cherub Rock http://youtube.com/watch?v=t1N_qX_r4Iw Quote Delete my account, the is no reason why it should be against standard procediure, do it do it do it. However it's a further indicator on their diverse sound going from a very worldly 'Animal Collective' to a very brash 'Pixies'esc band is a very interesting move and all 4 tracks here are really good especially the opener and the closer 'Zyghost' which give off good promise from this band, lets hope when the album finally arrives it's as strong. :D :D Quote Delete my account, the is no reason why it should be against standard procediure, do it do it do it.
