HaziLPTonz Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 see the problem isnt the core members, we will always be here with some form of numberage but, and a big stress on but, everyone here, see a problem in that we are NOT getting any new core members to join, yes we get casuals, but casuals do not boost the numbers, nor does it change anything here, as the core members slowly get older-ie moving on, or, get axed/kicked/banned, we are losing core members, there isnt a large core group to start with, there may have once been, but there certainly isnt as big now, and it will only get smaller, because the decline is small, its hardly noticeable when you re a regular, but take those who randomly come back and notice..."oh so and so are gone...and so and so...and this person..." etc, just LOOKING at the old school roll call v2 thread, i realise that while we are the current generation and we do well for ourselves int erms of numbers, our numbers are easily dwarfed by those that have left that made an impact on other forum members on the LPF, and at the same time, we are hardly getting any new members, i can maybe see 3-4 people in the last few months who have intro'd themselves who know have over 50 posts LPF is not fine, LPF isnt that great(anymore), and im sure in no uncertain terms most people can see that, thats why there has been countless threads and opinions on this, if there was nothign wrong...why the hell did we bother to even start this???? azemkamikaze03 Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Expand categories. Our categories have remained the same in number and kind, while our core-group of users has expanded. We need more categories so that more users get recognition. The LPFA's are about celebrating the good, solid members of LPF...they are not an elite status symbol. More categories - more winners. We're definitely working on that one. The Summer Awards were kind of a teaser for the Big Winter Ones...Awards are going to definitely be something new and different this time around Quote ¿whysoserious?

The reason so many members have gone is because LPF has been in existence for four years. Alot happens in four years. I come back every once in a while, and while I don't see faces and names I knew from before, I always see that new people are rising up and filling that spot. LPF's growth has always been on the rise, and it still is. We are always getting new members because we've had enough time to make a good impact on our little piece of the internet and people take notice. I agree LPF may need some improvements, fo' sho'...but LPF is much more than fine. It is a healthy forum. Quote And then I felt chills in my bones / The breath I saw was not my own I knew my skin that wrapped my frame / Wasn't made to play this game XXI
HaziLPTonz Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 most of those new members dont actually post, arent actually members, or are spam bots or only sporadically come on, there arent that many, if any, i cn only think of Littleblackstone of late whos shot from the ranks of newb to honorary member in such quick time you know, its fine, if you think things are fine, so be it, we arent a naiive, and while in the short run things may look "ok", but some of us would like to not only secure its short term members but also long term, and improvements hafto be made to keep this place going,im sure the majority of us will keep going, trying to find improvements, coming on every now and then like you say and saying 'everything is fine', is hardly helpful the minute you rest on your laurels is the minute you lose and right now, we are LOSING members, and yes some newbies will come and fill in, but they dont just instantly fill the gap, they may bring something different, but they cant replace whats lost, we need to not only bring something different in, but also keep whats been core to the LPF, its core members, and those are slowly declining, for instance i dont see hahninator on anymore, not to mention we just saw stenners implode, who on earth will fill those shoes? as much as people hated stenners, he at the least...well before he imploded, tried to be different, in a forum of one-eyed LP fans SOMETIMES(he was still a dick) it was refreshing to have someone tell things differently(though he could have been a tad less negative with everything that wasnt his own opinion) Quote http://www.sucksbbs.net/data/MetaMirrorCache/ddd296f8f90eca79dbafae096b6d28b3.jpg

Ravynlee Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I have to say this. Agree or don't. If you're one of these people that are finding LPF dead, dull, boring, (add any other decription here you'd wish), then as Clogz said, go do something else, go somewhere else, come back if you feel the need, but why stay let alone come back to gripe about how bad the place is? Is it an attention thing? Really why continue to complain instead of doing anything constructive about it? It's really frustrating to say the least - and demoralising for the rest of us - if people are only posting about how bad it is here. My opinion, don't like it, go somewhere else and complain. Leave those of us that are happy here in relative contentment. Don't like the rules, go elsewhere, don't like sig size, go somewhere else, don't like the mods or the owner or weather or god knows what else, simple go somewhere else. Seriously, put up or shut up, really. Enough. Now I will say I do deviate a little from what Clogz said. I think a facelift is needed. Not that there's anything wrong with what we have but a change of scenery is as good as a holiday, so the saying goes, and let's face it, it can't hurt. As keeps being repeated, to bring about that sense of community get the artistic community involved and come up with something, suggest ideas, draft up banners, buttons, something, do something in essence to add your own little stamp on LPF. Instill some personal pride. I agree with the awards. I also think revamping them is a grand and well overdue notion - make them better, fairer, varied, get more people involved. Swell idea. I will say one thing though in terms of changing sites or whatnot what would really work well is a more hands-on owner. Yes I know CD is busy and of course I appreciate all he's done for this site, (and I sincerely have nothing against him seems like a swell enough guy) but I still think having someone who actually can initiate changes or in the very least have the final say in reasonable time not six months down the track would have a huge impact on this site, even in terms of 'morale' (and I cringe at that mentality, personally I think morale is overall good, save for a few but like anything can always be better). I think the admins should have more power and do what CD can't in essence seeing as how he can't (why we keep going around in circles here is beyond me, it's getting exhausting retreading old ground frankly) and I think there should be a clear and distinct approach to this site overall. Revamp site. Visually. Facelift and function. The 'newspage' seems to be about anything these days, and for the most part boring. Altering front page might do wonders in terms of interest. Again I think a real time chat anywhere on screen here is a good way to avoid useless spamming when you're bored and just want to chat, when you've got nothing else to say LP related on the forums but don't want to log off yet, and just gives it a more contemporary feel... Get rid of top poster tab. No longer relevant. Also I think the Trader section needs an overhaul. Create a SINGULAR place, a list or thread where everyone can upload what the have and keep it updated regularly, like 'recent threads' post. That way you can contribute to the list and if someone wants a specific song or setlist etc they can pm owner and arrange trade? Revamp authority. We as members can't do it, but ideally mods/admins need to be more frequent or able to do more (I am throwing the notion out there, I know it's sort of pointless but brainstorming seeing as how others won't) there are times there are no mods admins and things get a little crazy and I feel we need immediate presence of authority to pull that crap back into line... just my humble opinion is all. And yes I know we all have real lives outside this site. Not saying anything against that, but this is why maybe another 1 or 2 in differing time zones specifically has to be worth looking into. What better way to cut problems off at the bud before they've had a good day or so to fester? Revamp members. Don't sign on for x-amount of time, lose username etc. Should give more incentive to stay active really. And is it here or somewhere else where you cant upload a sig or avatar until after a certain amount of posts? Think that's a good idea too. Also can't access certain threads without certain number of posts, and by that I only specifically mean anything share media based. Might make some that log on to ask for things then leave think twice if they have to work for them first. Revamp rules. The idea about introductory rules via PM at registration etc is also a start. I hate the idea of stickies, most don't even seem to notice them let alone take the time to read them. Keep the rules simple, consise and to the point and keep them where they will always be noticed. Maybe front page, somwehere unavoidable. This isn't a communist party but it's a bit too free compared to other places - it's sort of no wonder we have these moments of apathy across the proverbial board. AND KEEP THEM CURRENT AND ENFORCED! Revamp threads period. Instead of saying 'no bumping' why not automatically lock all threads 3 months or older or move them immediately to archives or delete? Save space, won't it? We need to make it clearer what goes where. I think as it stands now it's a little all-over-the-place. Again, throws back to facelift idea. Am sure there's more, and I could go on about it, let's face it, many of us already have, but bottom line, and this is perhaps most important of all - REVAMP ATTITUDE! It needed to be said. HaziLPTonz Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 i dont think attitude is a problem, im not griping so much as im concerned tht this place could well fold up sooner than later, making suggestions to improve someting is hardly griping, and right now LPF isnt exactly the greenest pasture, i like this place dont get me wrong, but id love to see improvements and a few more members(more than what we currently have anyways), and in anycase, like i said, if we arent looking to improve this place, then we may as well give it all up now as this place isnt going anywhere but down slowly Quote http://www.sucksbbs.net/data/MetaMirrorCache/ddd296f8f90eca79dbafae096b6d28b3.jpg
Ravynlee Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I think improvements are usually a good step forward anyway - saying this place is great the way it is is a tad apathetic (which is why I tried to elaborate on some of Clogz ideas, and he did have some valid ones) - if we don't move forward even little steps we're just going to stagnate - why rest of our proverbial laurels, people will get bored, and let's face it we're looking to attract new members, to keep the ones we have happy, and to prove we're going to be around a while longer (hopefully) in spite of these down times that are a regular enough occurance - well, they are if you've been around a few years anyway Making suggestions IS a good thing, I was just pointing out to those that say 'This place sucks' and that's it period, no 'but if we did this...' just bitching, moaning and griping won't magically solve anything / everything. That was my point earlier. Healthy conversation is great, in fact it's the one thing we need more of, rather than have members sitting back looking at the mods and admins and going 'well why aren't you doing something?' the then having the mods looking at the members going 'well what would you like us to do?' Attitude that conflicts with the mainstream isn't a bad thing - but you have to be open and constructive enough to yes gripe if you're unhappy with something BUT back it up with ways to improve it - not just 'screw this, lets abandon ship, I'm not staying here anymore this site sucks' etc etc... Acezorz Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 More authority lol,you wana run this like a library lol no one is gonna stick with a site like that If you think this is an over-enforced forum, then try going to Facepunch Studios. It's a great forum, but the admins don't take crap from anyone. They ban people for making badly titled threads, bad attitude, flaming and even making a thread in the wrong section. But it's still one of the most popular websites on the internet. Why? Because despite how many people get banned (hourly sometimes), they still come back, because assholes don't last their long without being permabanned. This forum is nothing in terms of strictness compared to Facepunch. The admins here are completely fine in my opinion; the sig rule is fair; no-one wants to have to scroll down loads just to read the next post because massive text in the above users signature. LPF isn't dead either; it still has plenty of active users on. I'm on everyday, although I tend to lurk more than post. I sign in to these forums everyday. Quote
