Xbox 360 or Playstation 3?

ok i just got the money together to buy me a new toy

and i've got a question: which system is better or...isn't there any difference?

i just know that playstation 3 has a little better graphic than xbox but well xD

just need an opinion!

Well this is my opinion:

At the moment, the 360 is better to get; it has better online capabilities than the PS3, BUT the PS3 has better graphics. 360 has more games as well, but in the future, I think the PS3 will overtake the 360 because Blu-Ray will eventually replace DVDs and you'd end up having to buy a Blu Ray addon for your 360. Also note, when playing online with the 360, you have to pay for it using a subscription, where as the PS3 online is free, but not as good.

so i think i'm gonna buy a xbox 360 =D because it is cheaper as a playstation 3 nearly 200€ (ca. 300$) so... i'm gonna buy mine tomorrow i think yay =D

Actually PS3 is cheaper than Xbox 360 on certain conditions.

 

The PS3 is $400 and the 360 is $350. BUT the PS3 comes with a wireless internet adapter ($100 add on for 360) and the PS3 is free online play ($50/yr for US I belive not 100%). The truth is Xbox Live may have a few different features but its not worth $50 IMO. That is one reason I am buying another PS3 for college so I don't have spend all my little money I will have on online play. The Blu-Ray addon for 360 is estimated to cost $200 (although it has not even been "offically" announced) . For the money the PS3 is a better deal. Gaming is moving to Blu-Ray games (now 3rd party compaines are making big games) games are starting to get cancelled on 360 because (one reason PS3 picked up 2 huge exclusives) a Dual Layer DVD can't hold enough information and companies do not want to compress audio and visuals. So this year is definately going to the PS3 this year. The 360 is a respectable system no doubt about it but Microsoft went cheap and now people are going to pay for it. That and the fact RROD is a huge problem still and YLOD (RROD equivalent) on PS3 is under 1%.

 

If you want a powerful system that is supposedly a 10 year console PS3 is the way to go. If you don't have the money though the 360 is still great and will give you hours of entertainment.

 

NOTE: Prices are standered the 360 Elite is $450 and the PS3 will reinterduce 80GB at $500

 

The graphical differences:

Xbox 360 has more "vibrant colors" aka brighter basically

PS3 is more detailed and occasionally has pop ups in long distance but very rare

 

RESULT: TIE

 

Hardware differences:

PS3 is superior everywhere in this field, BUT 360 has a great graphics card that does keep graphics on par with PS3, but a PS3 does run faster and runs ALOT cooler.

 

Result: Edge to PS3

 

Sound:

About the same but PS3 supports 7.1 Surround.

 

Result: TIE unles you can afford 7.1 which I think is a waste of money

 

Games:

A year ago 360 owned this category but its pretty even since the 360 is having a very weak year game wise. The 360 has been around a year longer of course it has more games but anymore they have about equal number of good games. They both have very bright futures though in this category. The only problem I would complain in this is the 360 has so many god damn FPS and almost everyone I know only owns FPSs! (but that isn't counted in my comparing lol)

 

Result: TIE

 

Online Play:

Of course Live is better than PSN. That means of course Live Store is better than Playstation Store. Live does have more content than PSStore as well, but I personally don't buy much DLC except Rockband stuff and multiplayer maps occasionally. Now the downs sides to live since I touched PS3 problems. Live crashes a lot more than PSN (or did not sure if that is still a problem). I have played both Live and PSN many times and there are so many ignorant stupid people on Live is pissed me off (no I am not saying oeveryone on Live is dumb just that there are more idiots on the 360 since obvioiusly more 360s have been sold.) I belive the gaming experience is better online with PS3 just because of what I said. I owned a 360 at one time and DO NOT think it is worth cost of paying. I would still say overall the 360 online maybe a little better.

 

Result: Slight edge on 360

 

Overall I would say they are even but PS3 is more bang for buck.

Referring to your comment FireHawk. Xbox Live only crashes when there's a large amount of people signing in, or joining at once. ie: Winter Time, when Tens of thousands of kids all got 360's it was very laggy. it was also laggy recently during an update to the marketplace, and Xbox Dashboard capabilities.

 

Over all I have no problems with Xbox Live...only people with bad connections cause lag.

 

 

Also Devil may Cry and Assassins Creed? aren't they both on XBox also?

Yes and DMC runs a lot better on PS3 while I would say Assassins Creed (which I think is a good game but overrated looks better on 360)

I personally don't think any of the consoles are worth investing so much money and time into.

I'm starting to believe video games aren't about gaming anymore, but rather making money. Both consoles charge you obnoxious amounts of money for mediocre games and n00bish online play.

Always been a Playstation person myselfy. My friend was an avid XBoxer (lol) and then he played a few games on my PS3 and has been hounding his parents for one ever since.

 

But it's more a personal choice then anything else. At the moment there really isn't that much difference between the two, besides a few minor advantages to each ..

I'd have to disagree with you there; my brother took no chances with his 360 and always made sure it didn't overheat. He had two extra fans on it, one that sucked in cold air and one that blew out hot air, and he STILL got the Red Ring, apparently it was a motherboard failure that caused it, not overheating.

 

But yeah, alot of the time it is due to poor looking after and overheating

I have a few things to add to this discussion. And no, I am not making a return, just a troll who feels he needs to share some things.

 

First: The RROD

It is in fact caused by an overheating problem. If too much excess heat is generated/kept in the console (lack of ventilation/covered vents/poor air circulation in the area that you set it up in) causes pins on the CPU/GPU to come loose, therefore resulting in the three red rings. Even though extra pre-cautions are taken, as in the friend who used extra fans, it can still happen. All that does is reduce the chances it will happen. Now, I have had my Box since last November and I have had no problems what-so-ever with any overheating problems (knock on wood). I keep mine on top of my entertainment center, with plenty of spacing between it and everything around it as to keep good circulation.

 

Second: Online play

Even though you said that you're not much of an online player, I still feel the need to discuss it while comparing the two consoles.

360 - Yes. You have to pay. But, since you pay, you get an above average online experience. The one bonus is that most of the high profile games (Halo, GTA4, etc.), you get a code to redeem for a month of free online Gold. To understand that, you need to know the difference between Gold and Silver accounts. (Taken from Xbox.com)

A Silver membership is free and grants you the following:

• Create a Gamer profile (Gamertag)
  
• Create and manage a friends list
  
• Access to X-Box Live Marketplace including X-Box Live Arcade, demos, and trailers
  
• Send and receive text and voice messages
  
• Join in special X-Box Live Gold trial opportunities
  
• Access to Massively Multiplayer Online games

A Gold Membership is approximately $8.00 a month (USD) and grants all the benefits of a silver membership, plus:

As said before, the only times it is down, usually, is the high rush seasons, namely around Christmas/December time when everyone is getting one as a gift and setting up online accounts.

PS3: Haven't played much online on the 3, but here's what I got from my experence:

• Sub-par online capabilities
  
• Poor connections (may have been the person's network that I was on though)
  
• Less communications between teammates in team games
  
• General rudeness (Not to say that the 30 doesn't have rude people, just I have encountered less.)

Price:

With the prices dropping between the two consoles, there isn't much to compare here.

 

Quality:

If you really want to pay extra for the 7.1 Surround Sound, that's your call. Personally I don't see much visual difference between the two.

 

Controller:

I personally find that the 360 controller is slightly better designed. All Sony did was take a proven "winner" and re-make it, while adding the whole SIXAXIS thing, and losing rumble functions. (Yes, I know that the Dualshock 3 will bring back the rumble feature, but that's not out, therefore, not part of the comparison.) On top of that only 59 of the 341 games that support the motion sensor function. With only one (that I know of), that truly supports it (flOw).

 

Upgrade ability:

I've seen that it is generally easier to upgrade the HDD on the 360 than the 3, but I may be mistaken. This is the only real thing you will need to upgrade, so I won't delve deeper.

 

The ultimate deciding factor in what to get is you. You will be the one playing it. This post wasn't intended to sway you towards a particular console, but to give you some of the most popular differences (or lack thereof in some cases). There are plenty of pluses for both consoles, choose the one that's best for you.

 

 

Disclaimer:

I've taken a lot of time in this post... A lot more than I intended to, so if you read it all I applaud you. I also realize that I made a lot of points that lean towards the 360 than the PS3. Please don't take what I said as a "Fan-boy" remark. I do own a 360, and not a PS3, but I feel all this fan-boy-ism is wack. The only fan-boy-ism I take part in is for games, not consoles. I enjoy my 360 very much, and if I had the money, I would get a 3... After I get a Wii... ^^

 

Another point to add to the post, the 360 has achievements for games, which suck. Sometimes, if they have Online Multiplayer achievements, it takes a lot of the fun away from the experience, as you are trying to get said achievements. Halo 3 was a good example of this. Infinity Ward got it right for CoD4, and had no MP achievements, therefore a fun online MP experience all the time.

That is incorrect SIXAXIS has been discounted last 2 months and Dualshock 3 is only thing shipping.

 

Ristance:Fall Of Man and MGS4 also support (with MGS4 being extensive SIXXAXIS)

ALL notebook sized HDDs work on both systems, I belive (it is a fact on PS3 I know for sure)
