Breakdown Conspiracy Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Long time no serious post people. Ok, I heard the song "Handlebars" by Flobots the other day on the radio. So I looked into the song further, and listened a few more times at home. What do you think of the song? I say that it is completely and utterly cliché, even more-so than Limp Bizkit, as they are trying to bring back the rap-rock genre that even yours truly LP dropped, but aside from the annoying style that mirrors the 90's, the music itself isn't that bad, with guitars, violin, and even a trumpet, oh my! The lyrics are what attracted me the most, as they talk about what I feel to be human accomplishment, control, and power. In the end I wouldn't even download the song illegally but I would, and be much happier, hearing this song from a rapper like Common, Mos Def, Ole' Lupe, or even Mr Shinoda etc... Discuss? LPShinodaFM Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 I loved the video and the concept was awesome. The lyrics talks about the gradual increase of control and ability of mankind and in the end the chaos of all this overflowing power that we cannot control. But in the end when it's over we remember the simple times of the beginning when we were only competing about handlebars. EDIT: lol I watched the vid again and i just realized there were two friends who went down separate paths, one gaining more and more power and becoming a politician while the other in the end leads a rebellion but gets killed. :[ Quote
DarknessLover Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 This band is amazing, I bought there whole album, and even purchased 2 copies out of my own money for 2 of my friends. If you like Handlebars, then you really need to hear the other songs on the album like Stand Up, Combat, Rise, Fight with Tools, and you know what fuck it, just listen to the whole album lol. I'll gladly hook you up with a "link" if you want lol Quote The Park is Back? No way!
twilightcrimson7 Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 I loved it the first time I heard it and I still do. The lyrics never stray from the linear message they provide. Every line helps the line before it progress and build into the climactic ending of the song that gives me goosebumps. The imagery is powerful, and the musical part of it is equally provocative. The progression of man through life: innocence, a simple will to change the world turned into an apocalyptic power-hungry race to dominance. FM2005 Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 About 2 weeks ago my friend sent me handlebars and I fell in love and picked the album up. My favorite song is 'Never Had It' I just love the girls's vocals on that song! And Combat is fun to listen to and funny like him saying "Tom, tom, High Hat" and the drums actualy doing that at the same time. Good stuff.
