woodyloveslinkin Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 It happened with Los Angeles, a single city, and a single war between two generations of people, that would bring down a powerful corporation that had held a reign of terror over people that were born in the Old World. Sarah was nowhere to be seen and no one had found her body as evidence that she was dead for real. Everyone had assumed that she was dead anyway, because thinking that she was still alive would be the worst possible thought that someone could think right now. Shanghai, was the next to fall as it was the back up city to Los Angeles. Old Worlders had also risen up to protest against the New World as well, but there were no guards this time, to stun them and sign exile orders anymore. The streets of China were completely black in the middle of the night, as all electricity supply had been cut off. The Old Worlders were a bit scared but glorious at the same time. Dharma, the Shanghai associate of Sarah's, was now dead thanks to some health complications and the New Worlders were going crazy as everyone realised that Dharma's death was no accident, as the headquarters in Los Angeles had fallen, on the other side of the world. They were either violently psychotic, lashing out at anything in their way, including their own New World friends, or they were acting like mental patients, not knowing who or what they were. Moscow, was the next one to fall after Shanghai. The billboards of Moscow blew up in blue and yellow sparks and the Russians who were still following Old World Russian traditions, dropped their vodka-filled shot glasses and watched in dismay as their glasses smashed on the ground. "Ruth is dead!" someone yelled out in Russian, as the New Worlder collapsed to his knees and fell face first into the ground. He didn't get back up again and no one thought to even see if he was okay. Everyone was stunned, mostly about the fact that someone had the guts to talk Russian and not English, and that person was one from the New World. Ruth was the person in charge of the Russian domain of Spyral, she held political power and social power over the members of Spyral stationed in Russia , like Dharma, she was an associate of Sarah's, and like Dharma, her death was no accident. However, the difference between Dharma and Ruth was that Dharma was overthrown by her own people, much like the events surrounding Sarah's apparent death, but the fall of Spyral had led Ruth to suicide. Dharma wasn't exactly too bright and many of her other associates had wondered why she out of all people, was appointed the position she had by Sarah, but giving her geographical location, she was a key player in bringing Japan down to New World level. By this stage, every Russian and every Chinese Old Worlder was celebrating as they realised that Spyral must have been taken down. They lit candles and fireworks exploded in the sky as celebration. But they didn't think for one second, who or what was going to take control of the globe if Spyral was slowly being taken down? One by one city, they didn't know who would be next. Kuala Lumpur, went and then it was Singapore's turn. Celebrations were to be conducted as the Old Worlders thought they could go back to living their lives. But there were no celebrations in Malaysia and Singapore. Violence and torch lit clashes between generations occurred when the New World generation had been told that Tara had committed suicide and Monique had been stabbed to death by one of her trusted friends. Ravynlee Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Geez, violent I'll say something. My lecturers have said to me in the course of my so-called studied 'Don't tell me, SHOW me.' In the context of writing you've told us, not really shown us. What I mean by this is I think perhaps instead of writing yourself into a corner by describing the inevitable and world-wide collapse of Spyral you could have as easily saved yourself the trouble and left it unsaid - it was already implied at the end of the last part of Tourniquet. Ideally, and maybe it's just me, a glimpse forward into the future of one or two of the main characters adapting to life in the New Old World or w/e would have done you more justice than repeating what was arguably inevitable anyway at the end of the story. An epilogue doesn't have to tie all the remaining loose ends together (though it's good if you can) - even a glimpse now into Sarah's solitude or her frame of mind as she lurks in the shadows now on the fringes of a world that has overthrown the one she had once ruled may have sufficed. But that's just my opinion. Instead of struggling to end this part (and you've suggested you already have ideas for a Part 2 of this) then why not start part 2 and then use the Epilogue to tie the two together, or at least bridge the gap that will help the reader's transition between stories. Again, just my idea, you can (and probably will) ignore me, just saying what I'm thinking. No harm in that I suppose. But after all is said and done, it still stands as a good and very unique fic and I sincerely have to give you credit for that. You've done well to get it this far and as any story should it leaves room for thought. I like that. Overall well done. Best of luck.
