It was midnight and the clock was still ticking,

He was in the car racing against the racing clock.

She was in the back seat, holding her stomach and screaming,

The labour had started, the baby rushed against the tick tock.

He was worried that he might not make it in time,

For the hospital was a good fifteen minutes away.

He looked to the road and back at his wife,

He was so proud that he could live to see this day.

The day where he was married and his loved one gave birth,

But hopefully in the maternity ward of the hospital, not the car.

He rushed through traffic lights, orange, green and red,

He slammed down the gas and the brakes, for now he was not far.

He knew the baby was ready to come out of her womb,

And into the real world that would challenge his baby son.

They hadn't named it yet but they were just thankful they had a child,

For sometimes, it could be an ultimate curse or an enjoying fun.

She clenched the leather interior of the car seat as the baby moved,

She yelled at the top of her anxious voice "Why can't you drive faster?"

He replied "I'm trying to dear, but we're almost there, don't fret,"

He never liked being treated like he was a slave and she was his master.

But it was love that kept them so close together at times,

For he loved her, and she loved him, but sometimes it was too much.

He came to the hospital, and drove up the emergency driveway,

He was almost crying now, he would ball his eyes out, at his son's first touch.

They rushed her into the emergency apartment, and nurses and doctors came,

They came to her aid, and they rushed her to the delivery room.

She pushed and she heaved, through great pain and piercing screams,

"I don't want to die" she told herself. "I'm not ready to become a tomb."

Five hours later after clenching and nail-biting screams of agony,

She delivered a healthy baby boy at the other end of the bed.

Mother and Father smiled as they heard their boy's first screams,

They smiled at one another, she held him and her arms, and named him Ted.

They were proud parents of a healthy boy delivered at six in the morning,

Both woman and man, couldn't believe how tiny his hands and feet were.

He smiled at them, looking around at the big world that he was just born into,

He yawned and he felt asleep for the first time, and he did not stir.
