Ricky Bobby, Get your facts straight. "Take the Long Way" debuted on the Billboard charts at #1 with 526K copies sold the first week, the Dixie Chicks' best week since the debut of "Home" in 2002. In 2006 it was the 9th best selling album in the US despite a lack of air play by redneck radio with sales just under 2 million. The album topped the country charts for over a month. Worldwide sales passed 2 million within the first five weeks, indicating once again that Americans generally are a tasteless bunch of cretins. The album, apart from the Grammys, was selected #1 in 2006 by USA Today, #5 by Time , #15 by Billboard and #19 by Rolling Stone. Martie Maguire said it best when she commented: "I'd rather have a smaller following of really cool people who get it, who will grow with us as we grow and are fans for life, than people that have us in their five-disc changer with Reba McEntire and Toby Keith. We don't want those kinds of fans. They limit what you can do." Being dropped by the toothless trailer park crowd is no great loss. And the five Grammys were awarded by their peers, a large percentage of which are country music artists. So I guess you and the rest of your inbred friends will have to "out" many other country music artists as well for acknowledging the Dixie Chicks' artistic abilities. But wisely, they have dropped their country music affiliation which will allow them to dissociate themselves from that mindless crap. But in the end, they have millions and millions of dollars and you don't, they have the respect of their peers who recognize them as superior creative artists which you aren't, and they have the satisfaction of knowing they had the personal courage to take a public stand against Fascism which you didn't. (AP) - Country radio still isn't ready to make nice with the Dixie Chicks. With a haul of Grammys Sunday, the Texas trio topped their comeback from their 2003 Bush-bashing comment that turned them from superstars to pariahs - but Music Row isn't welcoming them back into the country- music fold. "Most country stations aren't playing the Chicks, and they aren't going to start now," said Jim Jacobs, owner of WTDR-FM, a country radio station in Talladega, Ala. The awards might have the opposite effect, sparking another radio backlash against the group. Country broadcasters said Monday that the group's five Grammys show how out of touch the Recording Academy is from the average country fan. "I think (the listeners) are outraged," said Tony Lama, program director for KXNP in North Platte, Neb. "This is rural, conservative America. I remember way, way back in the very early sixties when people like Bob Dylan and Joan Baez came on the scene. When I played Dylan for some of my more conservative friends (I was in the military at the time) everybody laughed and said that he was going nowhere fast. Hey, guess what? They're still living in mobile homes down there in the deep south and Dylan is laughing all the way to the bank. Years from now, when Bush's administration is solidly deemed the worst in American History, the Dixie Chicks will still be around and will have had a proud tradition of good music and solid citizenship. ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Unrestricted-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- Quote

Do you mean the syndicated stations, nationwide, who use identical playlists of the same Michael-Jackson-sounding shit with a phony Texas accent all day long? Those country stations? The Dixie Chicks faced a backlash in 2003 after singer Natalie Maines said the band were "ashamed" President Bush is from their home state of Texas. The Dixie Chicks have yet to issue a statement and their website is still advertising some of the pulled tour dates. "Basically, they're having to rethink the entire tour at this point," explained Gary Bongiovanni, editor of Pollstar. And Bongiovanni added that some country music radio stations, who have banned the Dixie Chicks' records, have also refused to carry advertisements for the tour. According to Pollstar, dates in Memphis, Oklahoma City, Indianapolis, and Fresno, California, have been taken out of the tour schedule for now and box office sales for a concert in Houston, Texas have also been cancelled.
