camo fox Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 carbon fiber wrapped, or actually Carbon Fiber? Looks good, but I could only imagine the price if real Carbon Fiber. Quote
Loud450man Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 i cant imagine that being very strong when jumped on..... Quote 450r mx quad ...sb, st, flux capacitor :headbang:
junkie Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 It's gotta be a carbon fiber composite, something similar to HiPer wheels. Quote "I'd give my left arm to be ambidextrous.."
gunny Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 they are awesome looking, i like how they're flat. im sure they're plenty strong. they're so pretty i wouldnt wanna go beating thru the woods with em. they'll be great out in the dunes tho Quote
Dman450r Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 There are more pics of that quad on line. It's actually got a carbon fiber swingarm and grab bar too. Looks nasty...in a good way.. Guest Deven Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Ya a place called composite something did it. ill see if I can find the company... no plans to produce.. btu will make one offs for some coin!! Quote
alanbmx Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I work with carbon fiber and composites all day, no thanks. A couple of nicks from rocks and that thing will give you tiny splinters that are a bitch to find and get out, Looks great though. We made a carbon fiber roll cage when I worked at Nissan for a Group C car that was going to race at Le Mans. The drivers were not to hip on that idea Quote http://450rhq.com/data/MetaMirrorCache/92ac89484251c63d73340458b54ac18b.jpg By alanbmx at 2012-04-16
camo fox Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 Carbon Fiber looks nice, but I would pass. I shoot Carbon Arrows and see what happens with the littlest of dings to them. I've seen guys have arrows shatter and go through their hand! Give me my aluminum, please. Quote
ridinredjav Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 carbon fiber is too weak and too expensive. i cant imagine a carbon fiber swingarm Quote 04 honda TRX450R
alanbmx Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 carbon fiber is too weak and too expensive. i cant imagine a carbon fiber swingarm It is expensive but it is not weak. Airbus's new jet is all carbon fiber, Formula 1 cars have been all carbon fiber since the late 80's. It will not bend or dent, but when it goes it is over, catastofic failer. No reason a carbon fiber swing arm would not work. But the cost would not be worth it. To make it strong enough it would weigh as much as an aluminum one. $10,000 easy for a one off. But a steady dose of rocks hitting it would cause damage that would sooner or later cause failure Carbon fiber roll cage and Chasis I worked on in 1991 Quote http://450rhq.com/data/MetaMirrorCache/92ac89484251c63d73340458b54ac18b.jpg By alanbmx at 2012-04-16
Loud450man Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 would u run carbon fiber axle for mx...nope maybe the flashy swinger and nerfs for trals or drag racing but if u jump i could see them snaping... Quote 450r mx quad ...sb, st, flux capacitor :headbang:
Guest Phantom Z Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 I had a carbon fiber driveshaft on the drag car for about two races. They are incredibly strong when used for what they are intended but you have a rock or anything disturb one especially while spinning LOOK OUT!! Quote
