whoppes27
Never seen this done before but thought it was pretty neat and had to share! [video=youtube;nyT0Wp-OZ2M] Quote Racers Edge Powered 2006 trx450
nuckinfuts
Done it! And it works well. If you're lucky, someone has a lighter on them it makes it easier than using a big ol stick by spraying a flame to ignite it. Pretty neat trick tho Quote http://450rhq.com/data/MetaMirrorCache/450c01f25139ab7ef7d638c0209599ef.png
manny530
look at some of the off roaders 4x4 videos they mount huge tires like this but i was under the assumption u had to imediatly put air in the tire or it will suck up Quote EVERYONES FAVORITE MOD!!!! http://450rhq.com/data/MetaMirrorCache/f7e22d28ca03559ff7236e85f6128ca5.jpg
Guest Phantom Z
futs, can you give some details on doing this? I'd like to have it as a sticky in our tires/wheels section. I'll put that vid in it as well. I wanted to do that when I got my new tires since I had an audience but I wasn't confident enough to do it with out epic failure. nuckinfuts
Just spray a generous amount around inside. It works best on thin wall or bigger tires as it allows for quick flexing of the sidewall to seat the beads. It also usually only pops the beads on and doesn't provide enough pressure to drive away with. manny530
ive never got it to work on an atv tire, but then again i am total fail Quote EVERYONES FAVORITE MOD!!!! http://450rhq.com/data/MetaMirrorCache/f7e22d28ca03559ff7236e85f6128ca5.jpg
ridingred
this is not necessarily the proper way to do it but it will work. it's more a redneck method, but if you don't have many resources around it works very well, just be careful when the flames erupt, lol. when i did this on my atv tires, after they popped on the bead my tires had 45 psi in them, so i immediately let some air out. Guest Phantom Z
RR, I'm the guy that used a precisely placed car ramp, a suburban, a 30pk, and 3 drunk neighbors to pop the old tires off the bead. If it ain't redneck I'm probably not interested...........or wouldn't understand it at least!! :gr_jest:
ridingred
haha that's funny. I have used the old 4x4 board and a truck to pop my tires off the rim. The key is to leave a little air in the tire so when you pull the car onto the 4x4 board it doesn't just flatten down. Guest Deven
Phantom, that is actually how I pop lots of beads if I dont feel like drivng or out in the dunes. I lay it on the side, get a nicxe 2x6 and place it right on the edge spray some wd-40 aroudn the bead so as it starts to go it lubes it on the way down. Then back the truck up it, usually takes about half way on a 5 ft board and it will start to go. Works great..... as for seating beads, a Smaller tire like a quad tire will end up with way to much air pressure. Ive always let some out if doing it this way. However very rarely can I not get a tire to seat with a air tank which I usually have handier then starting fluid LOL a big tire usually needs mroe aire which defeats the purpose as I can usually get beads to seat once you lift it off the ground a bit
Guest Phantom Z
I tried a board at first but the burb was too heavy and I'm pretty sure these were the original tires from 2006 so I had to upgrade to the car ramp. As far as setting the bead 3 popped on with the compressor but the last one I hade to fight with and wish I would have had this trick in my pocket at the time it would have been nicely with our project of getting them off :gr_jest:
Big D
works good i have used it several times
ridingred
if you can't get the bead to pop on, try to use a ratchet strap around the center of the tire, get i snug and then fill with air, be careful not to cause the strap to fail or else you might end up with a missing eyeball. It helps put even pressure onto the tire forcing it to squeeze on the bead. DPCones
Cant tell you how many times we have had to do this out at the dunes. The ratchet strap trick is impressive as well. Its is pretty cool!
