Have any of you guys had your camera say "SOS" and shut off, either corrupting a file or not recording anything at all? I've had this happen to me a couple times in the last week or so. I did some research on it, and go pro says it's from the memory card, but then reading what some people are using for cards just doesn't make sense.

 

Im running a SanDisk Extreme HD video, 8 GB, Class 6 card. I haven't had this problem in the past, and I've had the camera for a couple years now.

you're card should be fine, but it wouldn't hurt to try another card and see if it persists. The cards can be wierd sometimes, i've had some that certain devices are perfect with, yet others don't even recognize.

 

The GoPro's do have some known cards that don't work, but that is not one of them, my GoPro's work with all the cards i have even basic class 4 sandisk cards.

I have read that you should never hook your go-pro directly to your computer, it loads the memory card with crap. If you have a card reader use it. Go to my computor right click on the memory card, click on format and format it with fat32, that is the default setting on my computor. My 32 gig card was half loaded with junk. I only charge my go pro in my car now with a cig lighter adapter and I format the card after downloading all the info, every time.

You can actually plug the GoPro into a computer by leaving it off and all that happens is the light comes on and it charges. In order to link it with the PC the gopro has to be on.

 

If your memory card is getting loaded with crap from you PC, you need to practice safe surfing, lol. I plug mine into my computer to charge, but i do use the card reader on my computer to transfer the files, it's just much more convenient. I always check the card contents to make sure that the appropriate folders are there, then i will delete the video files after transfering.

I would use nothing less then a level 10 card. You can get them from newegg for 30 bucks for a 32 gig card.

 

I am actually sending my gopro back right now to get replaced as I was having a similar problem. The first video of the day would record, the rest would be 1 minute long before it shut off. The file was either short, or corrupt. They think the card is coming loose and i kind of agree as I can put it on my counter and it will record video after video fine all day.

Either way give a new one and Ill try it out.....

keep in mind, some class 10 cards are of worse quality than class 6 cards. the level means something, but only to an extent. it's like getting a 16.00 megapixel camera that is no better than a high quality 8.0mp camera.

Mine is recording with no sound or muffled sound at least once a trip. I use a class 10 Patriot card 32 gig. It will record 20 - 30 videos in a weekend and a couple will have screwed up sound. But I love the damn thing. I read never to hook it directly to a PC on the GoProUser.freeforum forum

how long have you had it? i would try to see what gopro can do for ya, call them up. If it's past warranty, oh well, but try a different card to see if that helps.

SanDisk class 4 16GB here. never a single problem ever. unless forgetting to turn it on is a problem... llol

the go pro needs a update on the program.. mine was recording red and no sound.. just give it an update..

My card is formated, so that isn't an issue. I wonder if it might have something to do with the card wiggling around a little bit and not getting a good connection all the time. I'm going to go buy a new camera and a new card, but use the current card in the new camera, and the new card in the current camera just to see what happens, Then I'll return which ever isn't helping me!

did you update the camara? mine was faulting also.. download the program in your pc and update it .

The firmware is up to date. Like I said, it just recently started happening (last couple weeks). I have had the camera longer than the warranty, so that is out of the plan.
