bigcountrydude Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 i'm thinking about maybe trading in my R and getting a crf450 and putting it on the road. i'm in NY so it'll be kinda a pain getting it licenced but its doable. my friends sold their yfzs have big heavy enduros (650 free-airs) and they are wayyyyyy to heavy for my style. the 450 will be slower than them on the top-end but i just want it to go like a bat outta hell 0-80 (like neck snappong acceleration) and i know the crf isn't designed for on road but i've seen some nice supermotos... and i don't care about maitnence cuz its the same motor i have now basically! the longest distance travled would be 2 and half hours round trip to college once a week... i would just get a KTM or WR but i can not afford... StonedInNy Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 crf 450x can become titled in ny just cant get it inspected till you put blinkers on. Ive been thinking about getting one myself. woodwardspecialties Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 That would be an awesome bike on the street. I think it would be an easy conversion.... i know it can be done. Baja designs makes kits to add lights, and turn signals, etc.... at least they used to. Title and registration issues in NY im not familiar with. bigcountrydude Posted April 24, 2012 Author Posted April 24, 2012 yea i'm not worried about the blinkers, lights, and horn bullshit. just the legal crap. whats the differences between the r and the x? they are prolly not the same motor and thats what i want... bvet4dog Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Why not get one already a motard? Getting one bone stock and converting it would probably cost more than just buying one already converted. I agree with you the 600+ are huge. the 250's or 450's would be the sweet spot. I also do want a supermoto but i really do not want to trade my trx. But i might have to. I probably would get more use out of the supermoto than the trx. Being a college student, having a toy.... i'm lucky. having two toys.... it's like a dream come true! lol Anyways, if i were you, i'd get a KTM or hasavana. Here's a example of what i want. StonedInNy Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 not 100% sure prolly just a bit detuned. like cam and compression. plus the x has a headlight and tail light. The baja design that paul mentioned is a very nice it just put one on 2 of my friends drz400s Quote http://450rhq.com/data/MetaMirrorCache/6b18ba3659cf943b54f355288f1e5e07.jpg http://450rhq.com/data/MetaMirrorCache/4ea86facfccf17b627d7287f9ada1ff0.jpg Fuckin half the size and 3 times the price...... bvet4dog Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Do any one think i will regret trading my R for a supermoto? Please post your thoughts/opinion. Dont matter where you stand, i want honest statements. If you DO support the trade, what suggestion of a bike would suit a 5'6 150lbs rider? Of course i will want something "fun". ridingred Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 yea i'm not worried about the blinkers, lights, and horn bullshit. just the legal crap... That is the legal crap. All i know is that it's hard if not impossible to get an offroad title legalized on the road here in IL. no atv's, no dirt bikes. What kills me is that you see guys rolling can am spyders and then all other kinds of trikes and wierd ass choppers, yet we can't ride 4 wheels, because it is designated for off road use only. bigcountrydude Posted April 25, 2012 Author Posted April 25, 2012 well if its just cam and piston i'd swap out the cam and piston in my R into the crf. hahaha. another reason why i want a crf450. i'd trade some parts over Quote Stock Bore, Stock Stroke, Pump Gas, and Kicking Ass TEAM JUNK RACING #224

OTMTRX Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Drz400 come as street legal SM. Cool little bikes. I had the E version with supermoto wheels.. That was cool. You can power them up with cams/pistons/BB kits etc if you want... They are pretty fun stock though. As for the trade thats a tough one.. Which would you get more use out of / enjoy more? Quote
bigcountrydude Posted April 25, 2012 Author Posted April 25, 2012 i've heard the DRZs are good also. but i want the "wow" factor. lol Quote Stock Bore, Stock Stroke, Pump Gas, and Kicking Ass TEAM JUNK RACING #224
bvet4dog Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 i've heard the DRZs are good also. but i want the "wow" factor. lol x2 My trx was a wow factor for me. Even at stock lmao. I'm sure it'd become a 2nd version of wow factor if i decide to keep it and put money into it (hrc kit, full exhaust, intake). I've never driven a bike on the road to be honest. I have a few time with a yamaha 125, kawasakii 250 and a small crf cant remember which. But when it's a supermoto it's a whole new different level (atleast that's what i think right now). I mean i cant say much because i have limited experience with all terrain toys. Thats why i'm relying on the forum to feed me good knowledge so i can make the best decision. I mean a quick homework via google search didnt help me much. All i found was "facts" about certain bikes and people's opinions about bikes only based on their likes or even sometime they actually dont know a damn thing what they are talking about. bigcountrydude Posted April 26, 2012 Author Posted April 26, 2012 ok so i found an 05 crf450x for cheap on craigslist thats stock and mint. the hard part is getting plates for it. so far the easiest way i can think of is getting a fellow hq/org member <--lol that lives in AZ (can get plates for anything there) to get the plates for me and then sign the title back over to me. then i could drive it for a year and get the plates changed over to NY plates once its time to re-register it. any takers in AZ? Burke Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 I would do it for you but to title it in AZ after it is already titled in New York they may need to see the bike and do their inspections on it... I know thats what I had to do with my trailer down here. My quads and dirtbikes all either had MSO's or already had AZ titles, so I am not quite sure. bigcountrydude Posted April 27, 2012 Author Posted April 27, 2012 the the current owner of the bike i'm lookin at has the MSO. it was my understanding that the DMV, or whatever its called down there, will take the MSO and give you a title and plates for like 6 bucks and with zero hassle. bike dosn't need to be present. i'll have to do more research tho...
