Baileyguns Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 I guess I just have to take the good with the bad... Well... It's Friday, that's good. I scored a CRF450 carb for $65 shipped this morning, that's was good. I scored a NOSS adapter for $30 shipped this morning aswell, that's good too.. Changed the oil in the bike so I could go hit the track for some Friday night riding.. Took a rip around the yard so I could recheck the oil before heading out... As I was pulling back around the house there was quite a rattle and a stall... Kicker is locked up, and that's the bad. I calmly pushed it back into the shop, closed the doors and shut the lights out and hit the shower. Headed out to dinner with the family and maybe I tear it down this weekend and see what's up. My guess is cam chain. Quote Live Free or Die http://450rhq.com/data/MetaMirrorCache/9429fda0882ce39582aff21a740157c0.gif

Baileyguns Posted July 21, 2012 Author Posted July 21, 2012 Ghott, I think it was karma, lol... I started on the right side and pulled everything off and it freed up. I can spin the motor over by hand like any other day. No chips in any teeth, no cracks in the case cover, no nothing... Pulled the valve cover off and spun it over a few times and watched the cam chain kink and move the sliders around. I knew it was bad when I did the piston a few weeks ago but didn't have one on hand and threw caution to the wind. Before it stalled out it sounded like a bad cam chain rattling around. The stall could have been coincidental but I'm feeling like the chain kinked and bound everything up... Anyone experiance this before? Am I crazy? I'll actually pull the head off tomorrow and check for piston/valve contact. I was about to do it tonight till I heard "Daddy, will you put me to bed?"... She's my 3 year old show stopper, lol. ghott Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 No bad karma here baileyguns! I'm glad it wasn't anything worse than the cam chain. I've been there and done that...however, my chain never made my motor stall or lock...but I could hear it rattling around in there and it sounded BAD. I don't think .060" off the cylinder head likes to play very nice with cam chains. Baileyguns Posted July 21, 2012 Author Posted July 21, 2012 I got antsy after the baby went to bed... Head came off.. Valves kissed the piston and also some marks on the cylinder wall and scaring on the exhaust side piston skirt. Piston rocks side to side as well to I'm sure the rod is junk too.. I guess I have some things to think about now.. Like improving my golf game for the rest of the summer and taking some time to figure out where I want to go with this bike, lol. It's defiantly not top priority with home renovations and a baby boy due in October... There is an 06 kicker on Craigslist for super cheap I might have to consider too. Maybe a part out of mine? Who knows... I'm just bummed out. Quote Live Free or Die http://450rhq.com/data/MetaMirrorCache/9429fda0882ce39582aff21a740157c0.gif
woodwardspecialties Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Ouch... what a shame. I am actually working on a 400ex motor for a customer that had the same thing happen. Cam chain bound up and kicked off the crank gear. bent all the valves. Luckily all we need to do is valves, cam chain and tensioner and guides in his. If you decide to rebuild soon, i have most of the parts in stock.... ill hook you up on a package deal to get you up an riding soon! And congrats on the baby boy! My lil girl just turned 3 in May. Amazing how fast it goes by. I have been working on an 86 LT50 for her... all of the parts should be in monday!
